Selena Gomez: Fame got out of control

Los Angeles, April 14 (IANS) Pop star Selena Gomez has admitted that there was a time in her life when fame "got out of control" and gossip was "killing" her.## Gomez opened up about dealing with media scrutiny from the time she was a teen during a conversation with Amy Schumer for Interview magazine, reports hollywoodreporter.com.## "My intention was never to become a tabloid," the 27-year-old said while talking about living life under constant media scrutiny, adding: "So when things kind of happened that way, it got out of control. And then I was like, 'Wait, none of this is true'."## Gomez got stardom in 2007 at age 15 through "The Wizards of Waverly Place". She said that "the way the media has sometimes tried to explain things has made it sound really bad".## "When in reality, there's nothing wrong with the fact that I needed to go away or that I fell in love," she said, referring to her stints at mental health facilities and her relationships with former boyfriends like Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.## "I had to start opening up because people were taking away my narrative, and it was killing me," she said, adding: "I'm so young, and I'm going to keep changing, and no one has the right to tell me how my life's going."## Gomez confessed that she makes a conscious effort to raise awareness for causes that are meaningful to her. As a survivor of lupus and her recent bipolar diagnosis, Gomez said she wants to help those who have suffered similar experiences.## "I've gone through a lot of medical issues, and I know that I can reach people who are going through similarly scary things -- an organ transplant, or being on dialysis, or going away for treatment," said Gomez, who underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 due to lupus complications.## "A huge part of why I have a platform is to help people. That's why I think I'm OK with the magnitude. I mean, I'm not really OK with it -- but I'm going to say that I am because it's worth it. I know that I'm making someone somewhere feel good, or feel understood or heard, and that's worth it for me," she added.## Gomez also spoke about returning to music, with her third album, "Rare".## "I wrote it at the beginning of last year and had just gotten out of treatment," she said, adding: "It was a moment when I came back, and I was like, 'I'm ready to go into the studio with people I trust and start working on songs.' There was an air around it where people were very happy because it was like I was going to finally be me. But I didn't necessarily see it that way at the time. When I wrote the song, I was basically saying that I needed to hit rock bottom to understand that there was this huge veil over my face."## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.

Gal Gadot: Wonder Woman's alter ego Diana has 'evolved' in new film

Los Angeles, April 14 (IANS) Actress Gal Gadot, who will return for Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman 1984", shared how Wonder Woman's alter ego Diana has "evolved" in the upcoming installment .## "The first movie was a coming of age, it was Diana becoming Wonder Woman. She was very naive and she didn't understand the complexities of life. A fish out of water. In this movie, that's not the case whatsoever. Diana has evolved. She's much more mature and very wise," Gadot told Empire magazine, reports femalefirst.co.uk.## She said that "something crazy" will happen involving Chris Pine's alter ego, Steve Trevor.## "However, she's very lonely. She lost all of her team members and she's guarded. And then something crazy happens."## Gadot opened up about how she and Jenkins were keen on working with Pine again.## "Chris was an integral part of the movie, and of its success. And because he and I and Patty really enjoyed working together, we all wanted to have him back. And Patty and (co-writer) Geoff Johns found the best way that serves the narrative to bring Steve back."## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.

Tom Cruise beat Dwayne Johnson to Jack Reacher role

Los Angeles, April 13 (IANS) Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson says he had auditioned for the part of the popular character Jack Reacher, which he lost out to actor Tom Cruise.## He made the revelation during a Q&A session on Instagram. Through a seven-minute video, Johnson said he really wanted the role in the 2012 action movie, adding that losing it opened another door for him, reports dailymail.co.uk.## "Business is business and I'm happy (Cruise) got it," he said.## The action star said he was confident about getting the part as he believed his physical attributes were perfect for the character, which has been created by author Lee Child.## "In Hollywood, actors are kind of like in-a-box. There are actors that can vie for a particular role because it allows them to have a certain look, skin color, size, etc. Fortunately, for me, there aren't a lot of guys at all who look like me. So, all of my roles, from the beginning of my career, I've been a lucky son of a b***h that they've been created and designed for me -- except Jack Reacher," he said.## At that time, Johnson said that Cruise was the "biggest movie star in the world".## "I got the call saying 'Hey, you didn't get the role'. Look, I didn't even know if I had a shot for it, but the people around me at that time made me think that I did. I felt like I did, I felt like 'Why not me?'" he said.## "I'm positive that the role of Jack Reacher, because it was an established character, an IP that was well known and beloved around the world, that I wouldn't have had the creative space to do what I wanted with the character. I look back in gratitude that I didn't get Jack Reacher," he added.## Later, Johnson got a chance to essay the role of Luke Hobbs in the fifth installment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise.## "The universe works in funny ways though, as when that door shut on me, another door opened with the opportunity to create a character from scratch that was of my DNA," he said.## Today, Johnson is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood and has iconic films, including "The Mummy Returns", "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", "Hercules", "Snitch", "Moana", revamped "Jumanji" franchise and "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw", under his belt.## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.

Tom Hanks hosts show at home after COVID-19 diagnosis in March

Los Angeles, April 12 (IANS) Hollywood actor Tom Hanks returned to the small screen for the first time after he tested positive for the coronavirus in March. He said he and his wife are doing great.## The 63-year-old served as host for the first-ever "Saturday Night Live at Home" episode, reports people.com.## Hanks opened the show with a "Tiger King" reference, speaking to the camera from his Los Angeles home. "Hey all you cool cats and kittens," he said.## "It's me, your old pal. Don't be afraid, this shaved head was just for a movie. My hair is growing back very slowly," Hanks shared, referencing the Baz Luhrmann-directed film about Elvis Presley he was filming in Australia, where he was self-quarantining.## "Hey, it's good to be here, though it is also very weird to be here. Hosting Saturday Night Live from home. It is a strange time to try and be funny, but trying to be funny is SNLas whole thing. So we thought, what the heck? Let's give it a shot," Hanks said.## "But why me as host? Well, for one, I have been the celebrity canary of the coal mine for the coronavirus, and ever since being diagnosed, I have been more like America's dad than ever before since no one wants to be around me very long and I make people uncomfortable," he said.## His monologue was not one without a joke.## "Now I was diagnosed back in March with the coronavirus. I was first diagnosed down in Australia. Now the folks in Australia are fantastic in every way but they use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit when they take your temperature," he said.## "So, when they come in and they say, 'You're 36,' which seemed very bad to me. But turns out 36 is fine, turns out 38 is bad. So basically it's how Hollywood treats female actors."## Speaking about his quarantine attire as of late, Hanks said he had some help from his wife Rita Wilson. "But now my wife and I are doing fine, doing great. We're hunkered down like all of us should be. In fact, this suit, this is the first time I've worn anything other than sweatpants since March 11. My wife had to help me put it on," he said.## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.

It's a difficult time in the world right now: Oscar-winning filmmaker

New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) Oscar-winning filmmaker Marshall Curry feels the world is going through a difficult time, saying people "have been whipped up by demagogues who want us to demonize each other and discriminate against strangers who might have different religions or skin color".## This year, Curry won an Oscar for "The Neighbors' Window", a short narrative film that he wrote and directed. He was previously nominated three times for Academy Awards for his documentary films -- "Street Fight", "If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front" and "A Night at the Garden".## Asked if "The Neighbors' Window", which gives a message for having empathy towards neighbors, resonates with the political and social sentiments around the world, Curry told IANS: "It is a difficult time in America and in the world right now. People have been whipped up by demagogues who want us to demonize each other, to discriminate against strangers who might have different religions or skin color or lifestyles than we do."## "So I hoped that in a small way, the film would remind people to be gentle with each other and realize that everyone is struggling with something," he added.## "The Neighbors' Window", which is available to stream in India via ShortsTV, tells the story of a middle-aged woman with small children whose life is shaken up when two free-spirited twenty-something moves in across the street.## Talking about the movie, he said: "When I finished writing, I began to pull together a terrific team - cinematographer, producers, actors - and we shot the whole film in just four days in the apartment owned by very generous friends. I wanted to begin the film with a sense of light humor to draw the audience in, but over the course of the film, I tried to make the emotions deepen - and darken a bit - until the end. I think that life often has turns like this that happen suddenly, so we were all working together - the cinematographer, the actors, the musicians, etc. -- to try to trace those contours in a way that felt natural."## The short film runs high on voyeurism and nostalgia, and Curry says the themes were built into the very initial concept for the film.## "A few years ago I heard a story on a podcast called Love + Radio in which a middle-aged woman named Diane Weipert described seeing a young couple move in across the street. The story was beautifully told and really stayed with me, and a few years later it became the inspiration for my script," added Curry, who has also directed the award-winning documentaries "Racing Dreams" and "Point and Shoot".## Asked if the world is missing out on creative learning by not delving more into short film format, he said: "I love making short films, and I'm happy there are platforms such as ShortsTV and others that are sharing them!"## "The ability to stream short films on the Internet has made a big difference in the size of audiences. It's now possible to share short films with millions of people who would have had no way to see them just a few years ago. With platforms such as ShortsTV, our films can reach millions of households," he said.## He has been nominated for an Oscar several times and won an Oscar. But he doesn't let the award glory come in the middle of his creative thoughts while working on a project.## "I have been nominated three times before for documentaries, but winning was a new experience for me, and it was nice to be there with a fiction film. It was also a lot of fun to be able to celebrate with the team that made the film with me. I don't really think about the Oscars when I am making a film because I know that it is always a huge long-shot for any film to get recognized by the Academy, so I just try to make the best films I can," he said.## At the moment, he is working on "a few fiction projects and a few non-fiction projects that are in early stages. I really love to shoot and edit, so I'm looking forward to digging in again on a new film".## Stay tuned...

'Modern Family' spin-off series on the cards? Hollywood

'Modern Family' spin-off series on the cards?

Los Angeles, April 9 (IANS) "Modern Family" co-creator Steve Levitan, and Christopher Lloyd say they are considering a spin-off series featuring the gay couple Mitch and Cam.## In the series, Mitch is played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Cam is essayed by Eric Stonestreet. The show concluded its eleventh and final season internationally on Wednesday night. The finale showed Mitchell (Ferguson) and Cameron (Stonestreet) moving to Missouri.## Asked if Mitch and Cam going to Missouri gives a potential spin-off idea, Levitan said: "No. At the moment I'm personally not thinking about that."## "I think that there are a couple of writers who are thinking about well, is there a Mitch and Cam spin-off, but they're literally just thinking about it. They're using this time that we have now to think about it if there's something there," deadline.com quoted Levitan as saying.## "I'm not driving this but I'm a huge fan of Jesse and Eric, and those characters are of course near and dear to me, and I certainly think that they're strong enough to carry a show. For me, I really felt that what I needed creatively was to work on something new after working on 'Modern Family' for 12 years and pretty much exclusively," he said.## To this, Lloyd added: "No. We wanted to have them off on a new journey, and it seemed symmetrical to have Mitchell follow Cam someplace and maybe be around Cam's family because Cam had played that role in Mitchell's life for the last 11 years. Cam had this opportunity to do something wonderful and exciting, Mitchell felt okay, that makes my obligation to let him chase his dream, and I will go with him and see what that life is like for me.## "Now having said that yes, it does present a possibility for us. Will that happen? I'm not sure but we would be probably dumb to not explore it. However, doing a spin-off is fraught in a lot of ways and we won't do it unless we feel confident there's something there, I don't want to say it's a long shot, it's under discussion but we'll see. We don't want to jump into something like that, particularly because Modern Family is a tough act to follow, but that is a possibility," Lloyd continued.## "Modern Family" navigates the life of members of the Pritchett family and won hearts for showing a diverse picture of an American family with themes around a gay couple, adoption, dating, young pregnancy and ethnicity running at its core. It is aired in India on Star World.## Questioned about any other spin-off possibilities, Lloyd said: "I would be thrilled to follow any of those people. I have enjoyed living with those characters for a long time. I would love to see what happens to Phil and Claire in that RV, and I would love to know what Dylan and Haley's life is like as they turn into Phil and Claire, but in some ways, that's what the audience will do. That's the reason that you send people on new journeys because the audience can then almost take over the writing for you and they get to imagine what those new episodes would be."## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.

Chris Hemsworth has incredible zest to learn: 'Extraction' co-star Priyanshu Painyuli

Among them is "Bhavesh Joshi Superhero" actor Priyanshu Painyuli.## Priyanshu recalls Hemsworth, globally popular for playing the superhero Thor, as someone who is a delight to be around. "When you work with someone like him, you realize the value of being grounded. He is warm and kind as a colleague. He has this incredible zest to learn more and do better, and the fact that the team made me so comfortable that I wanted to give my best," he said.## Talking of his experience of working in such a massive film, Priyanshu says his biggest takeaway from the international project was the sense of discipline about their work culture, adding that he has a "very special role, in a surprise package" in the film produced by the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, who directed the blockbusters "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame".## "My biggest takeaway from this was the discipline of it. Everyone was so well-prepared and so thorough with their scenes. The research is so well-rounded that there are zero scopes for errors when the actor is in front of the camera. Everything is already on the storyboard, discussed and vetted, before the scene. I have been able to inculcate a more methodical approach to work," he said.## The Sam Hargrave directorial is a kidnap extraction drama that has Hemsworth playing a black market mercenary hired to rescue the son of an imprisoned international crime lord. The film also features Pankaj Tripathi and Randeep Hooda, besides French-Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani and Hollywood actor David Harbour.## About the film, Priyanshu said: It's a very interesting story. I am playing a very special role, in a surprise package. I am eagerly waiting to see myself, I haven't done anything like this before. I can't wait for people to watch this film. It's an experience I will always cherish."## The film is scheduled to be released on April 24, by Netflix.## Stay tuned...
