Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' and Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' Projected To Take $150+ Million Combined Opening

Los Angeles, July 18 - The Hollywood trade is buzzing for the epic clash between two of the most-awaited movies, Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" which are scheduled to take on each other on July 21. ## The stakes are high for both the aforementioned films and the anticipation is skyrocketing as the release date is getting nearer. Both the movies, completely opposite to each other, are expected to be box office heavyweights and the latest projections indicate the same. ## There has been a significant improvement in "Barbie" as well as "Oppenheimer's" box office projections after the recently concluded premieres where both the movies received rousing receptions from critics. As per the latest projections, the Margot Robbie-starrer "Barbie" is tracking to score $110 million in its domestic (North America) opening weekend. ## "Barbie" was previously projected to score between $70 million and $80 million in the opening weekend, but now, the trade is anticipating it to go much higher. "Oppenheimer", on the other hand, also sees some improvement and is now projected to score $50 million domestic opening weekend from $40 million earlier projections. ## Both "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" are now projected to score $150+ million combined opening weekend domestically. "Oppenheimer" would be one of the lowest openings for Nolan's film ever if it opens on the projected lines. However, it was expected considering the busy summer box office, but at the same time, trade believes that the movie could have long legs at the box office to emerge as one of the biggest hits of the year. ## "Barbie" stars Margot Robbie in the titular role and Ryan Gosling as Ken alongside an ensemble supporting cast that includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell. The official premise of the movie states, "After being expelled from the utopian Barbie Land for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie and Ken go on a journey of self-discovery to the real world".## "Oppenheimer", which is Nolan's first film not to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures domestically or internationally since "Memento" (2000), is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film stars Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, with a supporting ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh, among many others.## Stay tuned...

Christopher Nolan's Atom Bomb Movie 'Oppenheimer' Was Shot In Less Than Two Months

Los Angeles, July 18 - Blockbuster filmmaker Christopher Nolan's upcoming atom bomb movie "Oppenheimer" was shot in less than two months, revealed actor Cillian Murphy who plays the title role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who was pivotal in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project and thereby ushering in the Atomic Age. ## "Oppenheimer" will reportedly be run for nearly three hours and it consists of unbelievably zero CGI shots, as confirmed by Nolan himself recently. Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy said during an interview on Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast (via Variety), that the movie was filmed in just 57 days.## "We made the movie unbelievably quickly. We made it in 57 days. The pace of that was insane", the actor revealed. In comparison to Nolan's previous movies, the World War II survival thriller "Dunkirk" was shot in 68 days, and his massive spy movie "Tenet" was shot in 96 days. ## "The sets are huge, but it feels like being on an independent movie. There's just Chris and the cameraman — one camera always unless there's some huge, huge set piece — and the boom op and that's it. There's no video village, there's no monitors, nothing. He's a very analog filmmaker", Murphy added.## "Oppenheimer" is Christopher Nolan's longest film yet. It marks Murphy's 6th film with Nolan after Three Batman films, "Inception", and "Dunkirk", however, "Oppenheimer" is the first film of the director in which Murphy is playing the lead role.## The epic biographical thriller film stars Cillian Murphy as the title character, with a supporting ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh. ## Shot entirely in IMAX, "Oppenheimer" is scheduled to release on July 21 worldwide. ## Stay tuned...

Disney CEO Admits Disney Plus Content Is Diluting Audiences' Focus From Its Theatrical Tentpoles Hollywood

Disney CEO Admits Disney Plus Content Is Diluting Audiences' Focus From Its Theatrical Tentpoles

Los Angeles, July 14 - Disney CEO Bob Iger has admitted that Marvel making a number of Disney+ series is diluting the audiences' focus and attention from theatrical tentpole and this is one of the main reasons for the underwhelming box office performance of recent Marvel and Disney movies.## During a recent interview with CNBC's David Faber (via Variety), Iger cited that the studio has screwed up audiences' expectations by making so much Disney-plus content. Over the last few months, Disney has had some major setbacks regarding the theatrical outcome as films like "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania", "Elemental" and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", disappoint at the box office.## "There have been some disappointments. We would have liked some of our more recent releases to perform better", Iger said. "It's reflective not as a problem from a personnel perspective, but I think in our zeal to basically grow our content significantly to serve mostly our streaming offerings, we ended up taxing our people way beyond — in terms of their time and their focus — way beyond where they had been".## He continued, "Marvel's a great example of that. They had not been in the TV business at any significant level. Not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of television series, and frankly, it diluted focus and attention. That is, I think, more of the cause than anything".## Apart from the live-action movies, the underwhelming box office performances of Pixar's "Elemental" and "Lightyear" also came as a major shock to Disney. Pixar movies have given rich rewards to Disney over the year and Iger admits that the studio's decision to put three Pixar movies, "Soul", "Luca" and "Turning Red" on Disney+ in a row during the pandemic has created a negative impact on the audiences. ## "There were three Pixar releases in a row that went direct to streaming, in part because of — mostly because of COVID. And I think that may have created an expectation in the audience that they're going to eventually be on streaming and probably quickly, and there wasn't an urgency. And then I think there was some, I think you’d have to agree that there were some creative misses, as well", he said.## Stay tuned...

Warner Bros. Pictures India ' Horror-Thriller 'The Nun 2' Sets Clash With Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan'

Mumbai, July 7 - One of the leading Hollywood studios, Warner Bros. Pictures had a big success with its horror-thriller film "Evil Dead Rise" at the Indian box office earlier this year. It clashed with Salman Khan's "Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan" but managed to attract Indian audiences as it grossed over 37 crores. ## The studio is now gearing up for its next horror-thriller "The Nun 2". The 9th installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise and the sequel to "The Nun" (2018), the movie has been announced to release on September 8 this year in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages. ## Directed by Michael Chaves, "The Nun 2" will clash with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's "Jawan" which is scheduled to release on September 7. "Jawan", unlike KKBKKJ, is a far bigger hyped movie that is expected to grab a maximum number of screens in the Hindi belt.## "The Nun 2", meanwhile, is a bigger IP than "Evil Dead Rise" which could help the movie to get some traction despite facing a clash with one of the most anticipated Indian movies. The film stars Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons, returning from the first film, with Storm Reid and Anna Popplewell joining the cast. ## The sequel is set four years after the ending of the first film. It follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force Valak, the Nun. ## Watch the trailer of "The Nun II", releasing in cinemas on September 8.## ## Stay tuned...

It is releasing on July 12 in the US and some other countries. ## Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, "MI 7" is projected to score $90 million in its opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office, which will be the record in the "Mission Impossible" franchise. Box Office Projections For Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' and Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' Revealed Hollywood

Box Office Projections For Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' and Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' Revealed

Los Angeles, July 1 - Filmmakers Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's Atomic bomb drama "Oppenheimer" are two of the most anticipated Hollywood movies releasing this summer. What is more intriguing is that both movies are coming on the same day (July 21), indulging in one of the most epic box office battles in recent times. ## In the early box office projections, revealed yesterday (June 30), "Barbie" is tracking to open much bigger than "Oppenheimer". According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. romantic comedy film, based on the iconic Mattel toy line of dolls, is expected to score between $70 million and $80 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend. ## "Barbie" stars Margot Robbie in the titular role and Ryan Gosling as Ken alongside an ensemble supporting cast that includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell. The official premise of the movie states, "After being expelled from the utopian Barbie Land for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie and Ken go on a journey of self-discovery to the real world".## Nolan's biographical thriller film "Oppenheimer" is tracking for a domestic debut in the $40 million - $50 million range. If the movie opens in the lower projection, it would be one of the lowest openings for Nolan's film. However, the movie could have long legs as reports say it is one of the finest movies ever made. ## "Oppenheimer" is Nolan's first film not to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures domestically or internationally since "Memento" (2000), as well as his first film to receive an R rating since "Insomnia" (2002). Given the R rating and a direct clash with an equally strong film, the opening between $40 million and $50 million is not that bad for this Universal Pictures pic. ## The movie is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film stars Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, with a supporting ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh, among many others. ## Stay tuned...
