Tovino Thomas, Keerthy Suresh-Starrer 'Vaashi' Wrapped Up

Kerala Police Register Non-Bailable Case Against Actor Dileep

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 9 (JANS) Kerala Police has registered a non-bailable case against Malayalam superstar Dileep, his brother Anoop, his brother-in-law Sooraj and other family members. The case was registered following a revelation by a close friend of the actor and Malayalam movie director Balachandra Kumar.## Dileep was arrested in 2017 and lodged in a prison in a case related to a gang sexually assaulting a front-line heroine of South Indian movies and filming the scenes. Police later tracked the gang to Dileep and the actor was arrested in July 2017 and jailed. After two months in jail, he was released on bail and the trial in the case is on.## Balachandra Kumar who has recently fallen out with Dileep had told Police that the actor is in possession of a few clips of the female actor who was sexually assaulted.## On Sunday Deputy SP of Kerala Police Biju Paulose who was the investigating officer lodged a complaint with the Kerala police stating that Balachandra Kumar has deposed that Dileep while watching a YouTube video at his home of former Aluva Rural district police superintendent, A.V. George said that he would do away with the officer as well as other four officers who were responsible for arresting him.## He, according to the deposition of the director, had said that he would cut and remove the right hand of Superintendent of Police Sudarshan who had allegedly assaulted him during police custody. The director also said that one of the accused had told Dileep that for this he will have to spend Rs 1.5 crore for a gang of rowdies who can be engaged for the job.## The Malayalam Superstar, according to Balachandra Kumar also openly said that Kerala DGP, B. Sandhya, ADGP Sreejith, SPs A.V. George, and S. You cannot just stand somewhere and make movies with that limited knowledge. I am someone who didn't have a lot of exposure before coming into movies. I come from a very conservative family, I started watching movies only after I got into movies. I stand in an industry where my peers are so intelligent and excellent in terms of their knowledge, craft and skills about movies." ## Defining Malayalam cinema as a competitive space, he says: "It is a very competitive Industry because Malayalam cinema is now known everywhere and they are creating content every week which is working out around India. Noted Malayalam film and TV actor G.K. Pillai dead; he was 97

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31 (IANS) Malayalam actor G.K.Pillai, who was famous for playing the villain in action films and for performing stunts without using body doubles, passed away on Friday. He was 97 and died because of an age-related illness. ## After spending 13 years in both the Army and the Navy, Pillai retired from the military and launched his illustrious career in Malayalam cinema with the film 'Snehaseema' in 1954. He acted in more than 325 films and later ventured into television, where he was active till two years ago. ## A hugely respected actor, Pillai's baritone voice was his distinguishing feature and it won him many roles and several film awards. He also dabbled in politics and was seen frequently in Congress party circles. ## He is survived by six children. His wife had predeceased him. Veteran filmmaker K.S.Sethumadhavan passes away

Chennai/Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 24 (IANS) Ace film director K.S. Sethumadhavan, winner of 10 national and nine Kerala state film awards, passed away in Chennai on Friday, industry sources said.## Born in Palakkad in 1931, the 90-year-old bid adieu to his film career in the mid 90s after which he led a retired life in Chennai. ## Sethumadhavan began his film career in the late 50s, when he worked as an assistant to the then veterans like L.V. Prasad and Sunder Rao, among others. ## Sethumadhavan became an independent film director in 1960 when he directed a Sinhalese film and there was no looking back. He directed around 70 films, mostly in Malayalam, Tamil, Telegu and the hit Hindi film 'Julie' in 1975. ## Some of his most popular films include 'Odayil Ninnu', 'Daaham', 'Sthanarthi Saramma', 'Koottukudumbam', 'Vazhve Mayam', 'Aranazhika Neram', 'Anubhavangal Palichakal', 'Chattakkari', 'Oppol', 'Marupakkam'. ## Actor Mammootty first worked as a junior artiste in Sethumadhavan's hit film 'Anubhavangal Palichakal' in 1971. Actors Kamal Hassan and Suresh Gopi also made their screen debut under the master craftsman. ## In 2009, he was conferred the J.C. Dulquer Salmaan's Malayalam Box Office Blockbuster 'Kurup' To Premiere On Netflix Soon

Kochi, December 11 - Dulquer Salmaan's patience and trust in the crime drama film "Kurup" paid off big-time as it is turned out to be 3rd highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time. Dulquer Salmaan's 'Kurup' Grossed Double Then The Lucrative OTT Price To Emerge A Box Office Blockbuster

Kochi, November 25 - Dulquer Salmaan's latest Malayalam film "Kurup" is having a dream box office run. Despite getting mixed reviews from the critics, the crime thriller has been able to touch the heart of the audience, which is clearly visible as it crossed Rs. 75 crores at the worldwide box office, earning the status of one of the biggest Malayalam grossing films. ## Directed by Srinath Rajendran, "Kurup" was one of the films that didn't succumb to lucrative OTT price. Due to the second covid-19 wave, and the closure of theaters in Kerala, there were multiple reports claiming that the big-budget film was sold to a leading OTT platform for a hefty sum. While the official amount wasn't revealed, it was said to be Rs. 40 crores. ## Being one of the most-awaited films, and the fact that it was the first big Malayalam release post the second wave, the makers were keen to release the film only in theaters, and need not say that the brave decision paid off big time. It has nearly doubled what it was offered why the OTT platform. ## Based on the life of India's most wanted fugitive Sukumara Kurup who is absconding since 1984, "Kurup" reportedly emerged as the third highest-grossing Malayalam film at the worldwide box office of all time. The first two positions of the Top 3 highest-grossing Malayalam films are held by the Mohanlal starring blockbusters, Lucifer and Pulimurugan. ## Dulquer Salmaan is open to doing films in every industry irrespective of language. He has successfully established himself as the most bankable young actor of contemporary Malayalam cinema, with the success of Kurup. His upcoming film "Salute", which is a cop-action thriller film, is also a Malayalam film. Apart from this, he has Tamil film "Hey Sinamika", "Yuddham Tho Rasina Prema Katha" in Telugu, and multistarrer "Chup: Revenge Of The Artist" in Hindi. ## Meanwhile, "Kurup" is the first Indian film to have non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles. The film is now ruling the box office as it turned out to be a blockbuster outing for the makers after crossing Rs. 50 crores worldwide. ## With the success of "Kurup" on one hand, Dulquer is gearing up for the release of his next film, "Hey Sinamika", which is a Tamil romantic comedy, directed by choreographer Brinda. Dulquer Salmaan's Kurup Brings Malayalam Film Industry Back To Its Strong Feet After Record Opening

Kochi, November 13 - If there is one particular Indian film industry that has been hit badly by the covid-19 pandemic as compared to the others, is the Malayalam film industry. The exhibitors and distributors of Kerala, however, have reasons to be disappointed with Malayalam filmmakers too, who continue to bypass theatrical releases in order to go the digital way. ## While many top Malayalam stars including Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Fahadh Faasil among others have released their films directly on OTT platforms, Dulquer Salmaan waited for nearly a year to release his biographical-crime thriller film, "Kurup" in theaters. Based on the fugitive Sukumara Kurup, the film is produced by Salmaan himself under his banner Wayfarer Films in association with M Star Entertainments. ## The Kerala theater owners and distributors welcomed Salmaan's decision wholeheartedly and decided to give a maximum number of screens in the state as a mark of their gratitude. Salmaan enjoys a loyal fan-following among the Malayalam audiences and his "Kurup" was one of the most-awaited films. Released on November 12, "Kurup" is Malayalam industries' best foot forward to revive the industry and it hasn't disappointed at all. ## Directed by Srinath Rajendran, "Kurup" shattered box office records on an opening day in Kerala as well as overseas box office. It opened with a record ₹ 4.70 crores net for the Malayalam language and ₹ 90 lakhs for the other languages. Overseas, "Kurup" grossed ₹ 11.80 crores on an opening day, including ₹ 6.75 crores in the UAE alone, which is the biggest overseas start for a Malayalam film.## The day 2 box office numbers for "Kurup" are also estimated strong in India with a total of ₹ 6.6 crores gross. Kochi, the biggest market for a Malayalam film, contributed over ₹ 1.10 crores to the total collection in the first two days, which is a great showing, especially knowing the fact that only a 50% seating cap is allowed in Kerala. ## Moreover, "Kurup" has brought the Malayalam film industry back to its strong feet after nearly one and a half years. "Kurup", which also stars Indrajith Sukumaran, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shine Tom Chacko, and Sunny Wayne among others, is one of the first titles lined up to release in the coming months, including the biggest Malayalam film "Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea", starring superstar Mohanlal.
