Mumbai, July 9 - The half of the year has been completed, and IMDb has unveiled the list of the top 10 most popular Indian movies of 2025 so far. The list includes films released between January 1, 2025 and July 1, 2025, that have an average IMDb user rating of 6 or higher with at least 10,000 votes. ## Determined by the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide, all the top 10 popular films had a theatrical release. Of the top 10 titles, six are Bollywood films, followed by three Tamil films, and one Malayalam movie. ## 1. Chhaava (Hindi) - Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, the historical action drama features Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna in the leading roles. It is currently the highest-grossing Indian film with over 800 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office. ## 2. Dragon (Tamil) - Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dragon is a coming-of-age comedy-drama released on February 21, 2025. It is the second-highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year so far, with over 150 crores worldwide collection. ## 3. Deva (Hindi) - The action thriller film, despite underperforming at the box office, remained one of the most popular Indian movies on IMDb. Kochi, May 16 - Superstar Mohanlal has outdone himself to reign supreme at the box office as his latest sensation Thudarum has outgrossed his recent blockbuster L2: Empuraan to emerge as the second biggest Malayalam grosser domestically. ## Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum has grossed approximately 125 crores at the Indian box office in 21 days so far, outgrossing the entire domestic run of Empuraan (124.50 crores approx) to emerge as the number 2 grosser. Manjummel Boys remains the number 1 with 167.50 crores gross in India. ## Thudarum had earlier become the first movie ever to top 100 crore gross collection in Kerala state. It has been a one-horse race ever since it was released on April 25. The consistently strong day-wise performance of the movie took it past 200 crores worldwide as the third Malayalam title to achieve the feat after Empuraan (267 crores) and Manjummel Boys (241 crores), and the second fastest to do so. ## In 21 days, the movie has minted approximately 215 crores worldwide, including around 90 crores at the overseas box office. Mumbai, April 19 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller L2: Empuraan is nearing its box office run but not before creating history for Malayalam cinema. The movie has emerged as the highest-grossing Mollywood film ever. ## Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film has grossed 266+ crores at the worldwide box office so far. In India, it has minted around 124 crores gross, while overseas collection is around 142 crores. L2 is the biggest Malayalam grosser at the domestic as well as overseas box office, while it will finish as the second biggest grosser in Kerala, behind 2018. ## Meanwhile, the makers have revealed that the total business of Empuraan is 325 crores, which includes theatrical and non-theatrical business (so far). There have been rumours that the film's OTT and satellite rights were sold for 100 crores, but the latest update from the makers reveals that non-theatrical rights are not more than 60 crores.## The non-theatrical rights of the movie are said to be the second highest ever for a Malayalam film, behind Dulquer Salmaan's King of Kotha. Kochi, April 5 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller L2: Empuraan has become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time after beating last year's mega blockbuster Manjummel Boys in just 9 days at the worldwide box office. ## The sequel to the 2019 movie Lucifer, Empuraan has grossed approximately 241.50+ crores worldwide, including 106.50+ crores domestically through the second Friday. It has beaten the lifetime total of Manjummel Boys, which scored 241 crores in 2024. ## Empuraan is currently the third biggest Mollywood grosser in India after 2018 (110.50 crores gross) and Aadujeevitham (167.50 crores), while it is by far the biggest grosser at the overseas box office with 135+ crores, which is nearing double the second best Manjummel Boys (73.40 crores). ## Among the biggest grossers of the year, Empuraan is currently in third place behind Sankranthiki Vasthunam (255+ crores gross) and Chhaava (800+ crores gross) globally. Kochi, March 25 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller L2: Empuraan has become the first Malayalam film ever to sell 1 million tickets in advance on the online ticketing platform, Book My Show with 2 days still left for the release. ## The advance booking of Empuraan was opened on Friday (March 21) and since then, it has been selling tickets like hotcakes. On the first day, the movie sold a record-breaking 628K tickets on BMS, 163K on the second day, 110K on the third day and 100K+ tickets on 4th day. ## Of all the tickets sold, around 70%-80% have been sold in the home state, Kerala.
