Warner Bros. 'Evil Dead Rise' Becomes The Highest-Grossing Film In The Franchise
Los Angeles, May 7 - Warner Bros. Pictures' horror thriller Evil Dead Rise, which was almost landed directly on streaming, has become the highest-grossing film in the Evil Dead franchise at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. ## The fifth installment in the series, "Evil Dead Rise" has crossed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, surpassing the lifetime total of $97.50 million of the 4th film "Evil Dead" which was released in 2013. The total worldwide cume of the film reached $114.80 million, including $60.70 million internationally through the third weekend.## The Lee Cronin-directed film is projected to reach $54+ million at the domestic (North America) box office by 3rd Sunday and is likely to top fourth "Evil Dead's" lifetime domestic haul of $54.20 million to become the biggest film in the series domestically as well. ## The original "Evil Dead" was directed by Sam Raimi in 1981, and earned $2.90 million worldwide. Raimi went on to make "Evil Dead 2" in 1987, which earned $5.90 million worldwide, and "Army of Darkness" in 1992, which made $11.50 million, before Fede Ãlvarez directed the 4th installment. ## Interestingly, "Evil Dead Rise" has emerged as a surprise blockbuster in India with an estimated gross total of $4 million through the 3rd Sunday. It is the second Hollywood film in the last two months to have big box office success in India after Keanu Reeves-fronted "John Wick: Chapter 4" which grossed around $7.50 million.## Made on a budget of around $20 million, "Evil Dead Rise" was destined for a streaming release on Max before strong test scores encouraged Warner Bros. to give it a proper theatrical release, and it turned into a massive blockbuster for the studio. ## Stay tuned...
