Box Office Disaster 'Kanguva' Sets Streaming Release Date

Chennai, December 7 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action drama film Kanguva failed to live up to expectations and turned out to be a big disaster at the box office. Far from the humongous claims, this Siva's directorial ended up under 110 crores gross worldwide as a massive disappointment. ## With not getting much at the box office, the makers have now announced the streaming release date of the film in South Indian versions in the hope of a turnaround. The South Indian versions - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on December 8. ## The theatrical window of the film is just 21 days which is the lowest for a Pan India movie and an indication of how badly the film performed at the box office. While this could have been a major milestone of any other film of Suriya, the same is not with Kanguva which is facing outright rejection from audiences after a promising yet underwhelming start. ## Directed by Siva, Kanguva was a film keenly awaited by audiences and was seen as a potential big blockbuster at the box office. Chennai, November 17 - Kollywood star Suriya's Kanguva has an underwhelming extended opening weekend at the box office, considering the hype and craze it had among the fans before release. The movie scored a good opening but it has been a downfall since then. ## The movie scored a minor jump on Sunday, however, a big jump which was needed after the underwhelming first 3 days, was missing. According to the early estimates, the fantasy action thriller scored an estimated 12-13 crores gross collection in all versions on its 4th day. ## In Tamil Nadu, the movie scored more or less in the similar range as yesterday for an estimated 5.50 crores gross while showing a minor jump in most of the other areas. The total first 4-day weekend collection is around 64 crores gross in India, which is underwhelming. ## The negative word of mouth has affected Kanguva big time during the first weekend and now, a rebound looks difficult from hereon. Chennai, November 17 — Actress Jyothika has called out the targeted negativity towards her husband, actor Suriya. The award-winning actress took to Instagram and shared her thoughts on Suriya's latest movie Kanguva and how it has been made to suffer with hate campaigns by media and certain fraternities. ## While admitting that Kanguva is not a perfect film with some issues, especially in the first half-hour, the actress said it is also not a bad movie that deserves such a high level of negativity. The movie was released on November 14 and was bashed left, right, and centre on social media which has already affected the box office of the film. ## Speaking about the same, Jyotika said in a long note on Instagram, "I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it's not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age-old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences".## The actor-producer further said that the media intentionally ignored the positive side while reviewing the film and that has made her wonder largely whether one should ever read, listen or believe reviewers after all. ## "It's sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual", she added.## Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green, Kanguva opened to record numbers for actor Suriya but dropped heavily in the next 2 days. Chennai, November 16 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy action thriller Kanguva failed to score a big jump on its first Saturday which was a must after the underwhelming second day. As expected, the negative word of mouth has started cutting the audience. ## According to the early estimates, on the first Saturday/third day the all-India gross of the movie is almost in the similar range as yesterday with around 11 crores gross. The movie has seen a decent but not enough jump in the home state Tamil Nadu with an estimated around 5 crore gross collection today. ## Kanguva needed a big jump today to cover the lost ground but that didn't happen which shows the movie is facing rejection from the audience. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie has seen a drop almost everywhere which is concerning. It is unlikely the movie will see much turnaround on Sunday but a drop will seal the deal. ## The total domestic collection of the film after 3 days is around 51 crores gross which could have been a very good collection of any of Suriya's previous films but can't be said the same about Kanguva which was made on a huge budget. Chennai, November 15 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy entertainer Kanguva might be starting to feel the heat of negative word of mouth as the collection on its second day/first Friday dropped by over 50% from the record Thursday opening for the actor. ## It was going to be tough for the film to come close to the opening day numbers as word of mouth was poor and that came into effect on its second day only. According to early estimates, the movie is expected to gross in the range of 4-4.50 crores in Tamil Nadu on its second day, which is a drop of around 60%. ## The movie is witnessing a similar drop in Telugu states for an estimated 2.25-2.50 crores gross while in Kerala, the collection dropped massively for an estimated 75 lakh (-80%) and in Karnataka, the movie has minted around 75 lakh, again a heavy drop. ## Kanguva has a decent day in the Hindi belt though the drop is still there for an estimated 3+ crores gross as all India second-day estimates suggest the collection in the range of 10.50-11.50 crores gross, pushing the total to around 39 crores gross after 2 days domestically.## The film has a big Saturday and Sunday to make a mark as it looks like it will struggle big time beyond the weekend. As expected, the film has taken the career-best opening for the actor by a good margin. ## According to the early estimates, Kanguva is headed for opening in the range of 11-13 crores gross in Tamil Nadu which is a decent start. In Telugu states, the movie has taken a good start with an estimated gross collection in the range of 5.50-6 crores. ## Kerala was one of the best-performing states for Kanguva in advance sales and the film scored a very good opening of 4-4.50 crores gross there. However, it may face a significant challenge, especially in the home state, Tamil Nadu due to fellow Tamil movie Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan. ## Amaran was released during Diwali weekend and in just 12 days, it has surpassed 250 crores collection, at the worldwide box office, including 120+ crores gross in Tamil Nadu and emerged as a huge blockbuster. This dominance is causing trouble for Kanguva in securing enough screens in Tamil Nadu. ## It was assumed that the Suriya-starrer would be released on over 800 screens in Tamil Nadu, however, the latest development indicates that the movie will get only 50% of available screens due to Amaran which is performing exceptionally well in the state and is set to retain a good number of screens after Kanguva release. ## It hasn't been smooth sailing for Kanguva so far. The movie was supposed to be released on October 10 but was forced to postpone due to superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan which eventually turned into a flop venture. And a month later, things haven't improved much for this particular film though the reason this time is fortunately solid. ## Amaran being a dominant force at the box office deserves to retain a good number of screens, at least, for a month and so does Kanguva which has let go of a lucrative box office slot for another movie. Chennai, October 29 - With just 2 weeks left for the release, Tamil star Suriya's much-anticipated Pan India movie Kanguva has reportedly completed censorship formalities and the reports are super positive. The film is directed by Siruthai Siva and also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in prominent roles. ## According to the reports, Kanguva has been censored with a 'U/A' certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an approved runtime of 2 hours and 34 minutes. The movie was censored on October 29 with some modifications and without any major cuts.## The runtime of the film seems to be on the right side and as per reports, the CBFC team showered high praise for this Suriya-starrer for making one of its kind film. Per the plot summary, "Francis, a carefree shadow cop in Goa, finds his fate inexplicably linked to fearless Kanguva, an ancient warrior.
