After Barbenheimer Phenomena, Glicked Strikes At The Box Office

Los Angeles, November 26—Last year, the Barbenheimer (Barbie and Oppenheimer) phenomenon stormed the box office from its record-breaking start to its historic finish. Both movies collectively grossed over $2.4 billion worldwide and were two of the year's highest-grossing films, with Barbie finishing at the top with $1.44 billion. ## More than a year later, another box office clash called Glicked (Gladiator II and Wicked) is making waves. It is not exactly as big as Barbenheimer but powerful enough to keep the trade excited going forward where Wicked is behaving like Barbie while Gladiator II can be the Oppenheimer. ## The Ridley Scott's directorial R-rated epic historical action drama, Gladiator 2 has already surpassed $200 million globally after debuting internationally on November 13. Through Sunday (November 24), G2 has made $165.5 million at the overseas box office while it debuted domestically (North America) on November 22 and grossed $55 million in the opening weekend for a worldwide cume of $220 million. ## Wicked, which is a musical fantasy film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, had a strong debut domestically with a huge $112.5 million opening weekend. Los Angeles, November 14 - Tom Hardy's superhero movie Venom: The Last Dance has found a way to keep going at the box office after below than expected opening at the domestic box office. And with strong international performance, the film is now in the safe zone. ## Sony Pictures had 2 back-to-back box office shockers in its Spider-Man Universe in the form of Morbius and Madame Web, and when Venom 3 opened in North America far below initial expectations - with a disappointing $51 million - it looked like the studio might have another box office flop on its hands. ## However, after the initial setback, the brand Venom came to the rescue and the movie has continued to exceed expectations since then. Chennai, October 31 - Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's biographical war action drama film Amaran has taken an excellent start at the domestic box office, surpassing all the expectations to deliver the career-best opening for the actor by more than a double margin. ## Amaran was already creating sensation in the advance sales which is one of the highest of the year for a Tamil title. The fantastic pre-sales ensured the big opening but the positive audience reports led to rock-solid spot booking which provided a major boost to the overall collections. ## According to the early estimates, the movie is expected to gross 16-17 crores in Tamil Nadu which is the highest opening for the actor and third biggest of 2024. Amaran is also off to a good start in Telugu states and is estimated to gross in the range of 4.50 crores on its first day. ## In Karnataka, the movie is estimated to score in the range of 2 crore gross while in Kerala and the rest of India market, the gross collection is expected to be in the range of 1.75 crores. The film is directed by Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles. ## Deadpool and Wolverine will start streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar on November 12 in English, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages, 108 days after its theatrical release on July 26. Box Office: 'Venom: The Last Dance' Debuts With $175 Million Worldwide

Los Angeles, October 27 - Sony Pictures' Marvel movie Venom: The Last Dance debuted with a strong $175 million in its opening weekend at the worldwide box office, thanks to the international markets where the movie overperformed. ## The Tom Hardy-starrer superhero movie, however, has had a lower-than-expected opening at the domestic (North America) box office, grossing $51 million in its 3-day opening weekend. This is the lowest opening in the Venom franchise and the lowest ever for a comic book trilogy. ## In the Venom franchise, the film is nowhere close to the opening of the first two movies. The 2018 Venom scored $80 million on opening weekend, followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage which opened to a then-pandemic record $90 million in North America. ## Overseas, Venom 3 performed fantastically and grossed $124 million over the 5-day opening weekend from 64 markets. Los Angeles, October 26 - Tom Holland officially returns to play Spider-Man as Sony Pictures has set Spider-Man 4 release date in July 2026. Russo Brothers Provide 'Avengers: Doomsday' Filming Update

Tom Hardy 'Venom: The Last Dance' To Release A Day Early In India

Mumbai, October 18 - Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures high-awaited Venom: The Last Dance is set to hit the Indian theatres a day earlier than its domestic release. It is directed by Kelly Marcel and is the last film in the Venom franchise. ## Starring Tom Hardy in the title role, Venom 3 has been confirmed to be released on October 24 in English, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages. The pre-sales for the same opened on October 18, almost a week before its big screen debut. ## Venom: The Last Dance is a sequel to Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and the fifth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). In the movie, set after the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), Eddie Brock and the symbiote Venom go on the run when they are hunted by both of their worlds.## Marvel movies have historically done well at the Indian box office. Los Angeles, October 17 - The post-credit scene of the second Venom movie teased a potential Spider-Man and Venom crossover in future Venom films. Since Venom: The Last Dance has been confirmed to be the last movie in the franchise, the chatter regarding the crossover has picked up. ## Since Venom belongs to the Spider-Man Universe, there have been rumours that Marvel Studios was planning to include Tom Holland's cameo in Venom 3 as it is the last film of this anti-superhero franchise. ## Amid the strong speculations, Venom star Tom Hardy has broken his silence and might have possibly confirmed the Spider-Man appearance. At an event for Venom: The Last Dance in Mexico (via The Direct), Hardy said that "there are always possibilities" when asked about the rumoured appearance. ## "Will we ever meet Spider-Man?... You know... See, there are always possibilities. Christopher Nolan Confirms His Next Film For 2026 Release

Los Angeles, October 9 - After the box office blockbuster Oppenheimer, maverick filmmaker Christopher Nolan has finalised his next film which will be funded by Universal Pictures.## According to Deadline, Nolan's next will be headlined by Matt Damon and this will mark his third movie with the blockbuster filmmaker after Interstellar (2014) and Oppenheimer (2023). While the plot details of the movie are kept under wraps, it will have an IMAX release on July 17, 2026.## The shoot of this yet-untitled movie is expected to start in early 2025 and it will reportedly feature many A-list actors to star alongside Matt Damon who now joins the likes of Christian Bale and Cillian Murphy as actors who have worked with Nolan on at least three occasions.## Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan's last film Oppenheimer, also backed by Universal Pictures, was released in July 2023 and emerged as a mega box office success, grossing $328.9 million at the North American box office and $975.6 million worldwide. ## Apart from its box office success, Oppenheimer won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. It also won five Golden Globe Awards along with several other accolades.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: 'Joker 2' Scores $120+ Million Worldwide Opening; Bombs In North America

Los Angeles, October 7 - Warner Bros. Pictures' high-profile sequel Joker: Folie à Deux bombed at the domestic (North America) box office with a shocking $40 million opening weekend. This is less than half of what the first movie grossed in the first weekend ($96 million) in 2019. ## Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker 2 is having terrible reviews all around from critics as well as audiences. It is the first comic book movie in history to score 'D' CinemaScore while Rotten Tomatoes score is also around just 30% for both, critics and audiences. ## While the domestic opening of the film is a disaster with a rebound unlikely, Joker 2 has a respectable overseas start in the projected range. At the international box office, the Joaquin Phoenix/Lady Gaga-starrer grossed $81 million from 70 markets in the 6-day opening weekend. ## The UK was the biggest international market for the sequel with an $8 million debut, followed by Germany ($6.9 million), Italy ($5.6 million), Mexico ($5.5 million) and France ($5 million). In India, the movie remained poor with approximately $1.65 million (14 crores gross) after a 5-day weekend.## The worldwide opening of Joker 2 is $121 million which is poor. Joker in 2019 scored a worldwide opening of $247 million, leading its way to a $1+ billion finish. Los Angeles, October 5 - A few months after Benedict Cumberbatch offered a disappointing update on the third instalment of Marvel Studios Doctor Strange, a new report has emerged which has sparked excitement among the fans. ## According to a new report from The InSneider (via The Direct), Marvel Studios is nearing a deal with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi to return and direct the trilogy-completing threequel.## Raimi previously helmed 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, taking over the franchise from initial Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. If the director officially comes on board for the next movie, it will be his 5th Marvel movie which also includes the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. ## Doctor Strange 3 hasn't been officially announced yet but the rumours are making rounds for quite some time about its development. The movie is a sequel to a billion-dollar grosser, so there were high expectations from Joker 2.## However, unlike the high expectations, Joker 2 is turning out to be a nightmare for the studio and the talent involved, heading towards an all-time disaster at the box office. The chances of a box office rebound are also unlikely due to terrible audience reception. ## Joker 2 has become the first comic book movie to receive 'D' CinemaScore. It is the second-worst CinemaScore rating, just above the 'F' rating. Los Angeles, September 28 - Tom Hardy-led superhero movie Venom: The Last Dance is gearing up for the release on October 25 as the last film of the Venom franchise. The movie is directed by Kelly Marcel and is a part of Sony's Spider-Man universe. ## With under a month to go before the release, Venom: The Last Dance is tracking to be the biggest opener in the franchise. According to the projection by Box Office Pro, Venom 3 is headed towards taking the opening of $80 million - $120 million at the domestic opening weekend. ## The first two films of this anti-hero franchise opened with approximately $10 million apart - $80.20 million for 2018's Venom and $90 million for 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom 3, as per the early projections, is in the position to take the biggest start of the franchise and it can do it with a fair margin. ## Both, Venom and Venom - Let There Be Carnage finished their domestic run with an almost identical total of $213.51 million and $213.55 million, respectively.
