Box Office: 'Inside Out 2' Becomes Pixar Studios' Highest-Grossing Film Worldwide

Los Angeles, July 10 - After becoming the first billion-dollar grosser of the year, Pixar's mega-hit Inside Out 2 climbs another milestone as it has become the highest-grossing movie of Pixar Animation Studio at the global box office. ## The sequel to Inside Out (2015) has been a box-office phenomenon since its debut on June 14 and is currently in the 4th week of its run. On its 4th Tuesday, IO2 has outgrossed Incredibles 2 ($1.24 billion) to become the biggest Pixar blockbuster globally. ## After surpassing Incredibles 2, Inside Out 2 has also become the 4th highest-grossing animated movie of all time, behind Frozen 2 ($1.45 billion), The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion), and Frozen ($1.29 billion). IO2 is projected to finish its run with $1.45+ billion, which will make it the biggest animated grosser of all time. ## As said, IO2 became the first billion-dollar grosser since Margot Robbie's Barbie in July 2023. It also scored the biggest opening of the year at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office after crushing the pre-release box office projections with a mighty $294 million worldwide opening weekend.## Inside Out (2015) did unthinkable to beat the projection as the box office hadn't been at its best this year for Hollywood. Pixar too was feeling the heat with back-to-back low scores since the Covid-19 pandemic but Inside Out 2 did what other movies couldn't to bring the studio back to its old glory.## Stay tuned...

Disney CEO Admits Disney Plus Content Is Diluting Audiences' Focus From Its Theatrical Tentpoles

Los Angeles, July 14 - Disney CEO Bob Iger has admitted that Marvel making a number of Disney+ series is diluting the audiences' focus and attention from theatrical tentpole and this is one of the main reasons for the underwhelming box office performance of recent Marvel and Disney movies.## During a recent interview with CNBC's David Faber (via Variety), Iger cited that the studio has screwed up audiences' expectations by making so much Disney-plus content. Over the last few months, Disney has had some major setbacks regarding the theatrical outcome as films like "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania", "Elemental" and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", disappoint at the box office.## "There have been some disappointments. We would have liked some of our more recent releases to perform better", Iger said. "It's reflective not as a problem from a personnel perspective, but I think in our zeal to basically grow our content significantly to serve mostly our streaming offerings, we ended up taxing our people way beyond — in terms of their time and their focus — way beyond where they had been".## He continued, "Marvel's a great example of that. They had not been in the TV business at any significant level. Not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of television series, and frankly, it diluted focus and attention. That is, I think, more of the cause than anything".## Apart from the live-action movies, the underwhelming box office performances of Pixar's "Elemental" and "Lightyear" also came as a major shock to Disney. Pixar movies have given rich rewards to Disney over the year and Iger admits that the studio's decision to put three Pixar movies, "Soul", "Luca" and "Turning Red" on Disney+ in a row during the pandemic has created a negative impact on the audiences. ## "There were three Pixar releases in a row that went direct to streaming, in part because of — mostly because of COVID. And I think that may have created an expectation in the audience that they're going to eventually be on streaming and probably quickly, and there wasn't an urgency. And then I think there was some, I think you’d have to agree that there were some creative misses, as well", he said.## Stay tuned...

Disney's 'Turning Red' Streaming Announcement Left Pixar Staff In Shock And Disappointed

Los Angeles, January 11 - Walt Disney Company once again left the exhibition sector disappointed by announcing the exclusive Disney+ release of Pixar's upcoming film "Turning Red". On Friday, the studio made it clear that the Pixar movie would be its third title since the pandemic to skip theaters and premiere exclusively on its streaming service Disney+.## "Given the delayed box office recovery, particularly for family films, flexibility remains at the core of our distribution decisions as we prioritize delivering the unparalleled content of The Walt Disney Company to audiences around the world and we look forward to bringing them Pixar's next incredible feature film 'Turning Red'", said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution in a statement to media.## This is Disney's exclusive streaming film after Pixar's Academy Award-winning "Soul" and the critically-acclaimed "Luca". The decision of making "Turning Red" an exclusive Disney+ feature has not only left exhibitors in utter shock but also left the staff at Pixar disappointed and cheated once again.## "It's safe to say that we're all feeling extremely disappointed," one Pixar staffer told Insider and added, "Until today, we all thought 'Turning Red' would be our return to the big screen, and everyone at the studio was so excited about it being this film in particular. It was quite a blow".## Before "Turning Red", Pixar's "Soul" (2020) was the first film in the company's 26-year history to not open in theaters. During that time, the staff of Pixar, including CCO Pete Docter (who is also the director of Oscar-winner "Soul") were not happy that their recent movies weren't getting theatrical releases. ## "Turning Red", which is the first Pixar film to be solely directed by a woman, Domee Shi, is slated to premiere on Disney+ on March 11. In India, it will stream on Disney+Hotstar on the same day in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. ## Stay tuned...
