Nashville, August 16, 2023 - Here are the full results for this Wednesday's AEW Dynamite Episode which is slated to air live on August 16, 2023, from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. ## AEW Dynamite airs every Wednesday at 8 pm ET on TBS in the United States. In Canada, AEW Dynamite is available through the TSN website. In India, AEW Dynamite airs on Eurosport every Thursday at 5:30 AM IST. ## The show is available on the TSN Direct streaming service at 10 pm Eastern, the same time that the show will air live on TNT and FITE TV. ## AEW Dynamite Results August 16, 2023: Highlights ## Orange Cassidy Vs Wheeler Yuta for the AEW International Title ## Yuta slammed Cassidy to the floor and chased him out with a dive. Cassidy turned the tables on a vertical suplex from Yuta and they tussled up the ramp. Yuta landed a solid piledriver on Cassidy on the entrance ramp, and the ref, Bryce Remsberg, signaled for them to get back in the ring. Yuta made fun of Cassidy's "hard-hitting" kicks by pretending to kick him down the ramp with hands in his tights. Eventually, Yuta brought the fight back inside the ring, but Cassidy surprised him with the Beach Break, nearly getting the win. ## During the split-screen intermission, Yuta targeted Cassidy's leg with an Indian Death Lock. After the break, Cassidy started his comeback. He climbed the top rope, but Yuta halted him with a kick and executed a top-rope superplex. Yuta followed up with a top-rope splash for a near fall. Yuta aimed a kick at Cassidy's head, but Cassidy turned it into a close pin. Cassidy went for a spinning DDT, but his leg gave way. He managed to catch Yuta with a Michinoku Driver for a near fall, then pulled off the spinning DDT on the second attempt. Cassidy's leg selling was really impressive. ## As Cassidy readied for the Orange Punch, Jon Moxley and Claudio Castignoli emerged from the crowd. Cassidy hit a Paradigm Shift and the Orange Punch on Yuta, but was too battered to go for the pin. Yuta almost got the victory with a seatbelt cradle. Cassidy countered a sunset flip attempt with a cradle and secured the pinfall to hold onto the title. ## WINNER: Orange Cassidy ## Right after the match-ending moment, Moxley and Claudio stormed into the ring, launching an attack on Cassidy. The Best Friends rushed in to help, but were quickly overpowered. The Lucha Bros then made a lively entrance to the ring (while Mox and Claudio kept assaulting The Best Friends) to even out the odds. Moxley and Claudio grabbed chairs, but suddenly, Eddie Kingston's music blared, and he stormed into the ring to take on Claudio. The Blackpool Combat Club crew made a hasty retreat, and Kingston seized a microphone, throwing down a challenge for a STADIUM STAMPEDE MATCH against The Blackpool Combat Club "and whoever else they can scrape up." ## JR's Interview with Kenny Omega: The interview occurred at Daily's Place, the very venue where (as JR duly pointed out) Omega clinched his first World Title. Omega expressed his desire to move on from Callis. Clips rolled of Omega facing Konosuke Takeshita from DDT. Callis barged in on the interview, diverting Omega's attention, and Juice Robinson & Jay White seized the opportunity to launch an assault on Omega. Takeshita joined the fray, and they unleashed a barrage with pipes and assorted weaponry, leading to Omega getting "hauled off to the hospital." ## The scene shifted to Adam Page, stationed "outside the Jacksonville hospital." Page unveiled plans for a match at Wembley where he, Kota Ibushi, and Omega will go up against Robinson, White, and Takeshita. Page's beer-sipping outside the "hospital" drew a reprimand from security. ## All In Takes Shape (Last-Minute but Good): The pieces were falling into place for All In, and things were coming together quite nicely, even if it was down to the wire. ## Jericho's Response to Don Callis: The action returned to the arena, with Callis summoning Chris Jericho for his response. In reply, Jericho declared, "Chris Jericho doesn't simply join factions; Chris Jericho is the one who creates them." Callis initially got an enthusiastic "Yes!" from Jericho, which surprised him and prompted thoughts of hitting the bar for a celebration. However, Jericho's attention was drawn to a covered picture in the corner. Jericho insisted on uncovering it, revealing a painting of Callis clutching Jericho's severed head. Perplexed, Jericho questioned the meaning of this artwork. Callis had believed that Jericho's ego might make him want to align with "the Don Callis Family." In Jericho's eyes, though, "Who the hell is Don Callis?" Jericho dismissed Callis as someone who has lost everything – family, Kenny Omega, friends – all because he's "a no-good, despicable worm." Callis slapped Jericho, prompting Jericho to retaliate by choking Callis in the corner. Konosuke Takshita and Will Ospreay rushed in to rescue Callis. Ospreay struck Jericho with the Hidden Blade and, with a steel chair to the head, drew blood from Jericho. Callis then shattered the painting over Jericho's head. Sammy Guevara charged in, wielding Jericho's bat, and managed to drive off Callis and his crew, earning a brief "Sammy!" chant from the crowd. ## Darby Allin & Nicky Wayne Vs The Gates of Agony ## As Wayne and Allin made their entrance, The Gates pounced on them, launching an attack. Swerve Strickland and AR Fox followed suit, stepping onto the scene while The Gates maintained control over Wayne and Allin on the arena floor. ## Fox and Strickland took up positions on the ramp to watch the ongoing match. Throughout the split-screen intermission, The Gates kept the pressure on Nick Wayne. Post the break, Wayne managed to make the tag, igniting some much-needed energy. Allin and Wayne teamed up, executing a combination move involving a crucifix bomb followed by a superkick, resulting in a close near fall. ## The Gates of Agony executed a decapitation elbow reminiscent of Demolition's style, coming tantalizingly close to a victory. Wayne seized the moment, connecting with a springboard cutter on Kaun. Balancing on the same top turnbuckle, Wayne took flight, delivering a moonsault to Tanga Loa on the outside. Simultaneously, Allin targeted Kaun with the Coffin Drop, securing the pinfall victory. ## WINNER:Darby Allin & Nicky Wayne ## After the match, The Mogul Affiliates encircled the ring, but their plans were interrupted by Sting, who appeared on the KhanTron. Sting had taken Prince Nana captive and used his unexpected presence to caution Strickland about staying vigilant. Sting's quirky antics even managed to send Nana scurrying away. Sting's eccentric behavior added both crazy and humorous elements to the scene. ## Adam Cole and MJF came up with some preparations for their match against Aussie Open at Zero Hour. MJF took them to Outback Steakhouse, while Adam Cole purchased "Crocodile Dundee I and II." MJF found a video of kangaroos fighting on his phone and suggested adopting "the kangaroo kick" as an alternative finishing move. They playfully double-clotheslined an inflatable crocodile, which drew the ire of Tony Khan. Khan called them into his office to reprimand them, exclaiming, "People are trying to work here!" ## Adam Cole and MJF later arrived at the arena in MJF's stylish sports car. MJF excused himself to use the bathroom due to a disagreement with some Nashville Hot Chicken. Meanwhile, Cole made his way to the ring. Roderick Strong appeared and voiced his complaints after Cole and MJF had left, inadvertently hurting himself while kicking MJF's car. ## MJF and Adam Cole entered the ring for a promo. MJF indulged in a little two-step dance for the crowd and initiated a "Kangaroo Kick!" chant. Cole delivered a heartfelt speech about his remarkable comeback, highlighting his journey from a near career-ending injury to headlining the grandest wrestling event against his best friend and for the world title. He expressed his determination to win, vowing to do "anything" necessary. ## MJF shared his story of driving 90,000 miles in 2018, striving to establish his name in the industry. He recounted how he got his shot at the first All In by reaching out to Cody Rhodes and despite losing in the opener, caught the attention of Tony Khan, earning a contract with AEW. In five years, MJF had risen from obscurity to become one of the finest wrestlers. Now, back at All In, he saw the main event as a chance to etch his name in history alongside his best friend, and dream opponent, in what was being touted as "the biggest wrestling show of all time." While it meant a lot, MJF emphasized that the "Triple B" (Becoming Best in the Business) meant everything, as winning the main event at All In would solidify his legendary status. The crowd enthusiastically joined in their catchphrases as Cole and MJF led them. ## Aussie Open unexpectedly attacked Cole and MJF, but the tables quickly turned as they gained the upper hand. Amidst the chaos, Mark Davis intervened, preventing Kyle Fletcher from falling victim to the "kangaroo kick." The audience chanted for the move, and MJF taunted Aussie Open. Just as it seemed Cole was setting up for a superkick on MJF from behind, MJF turned around before the blow landed. The two embraced, showcasing a strong camaraderie. The crowd reveled in these engaging promos, eagerly anticipating All In. ## In a backstage interview, a bloodied Chris Jericho spoke with Renee Paquette. Jericho revealed that a showdown between him and Will Ospreay would have taken place in the Tokyo Dome in 2021 had it not been for the pandemic. He emphasized that nothing, not even a pandemic, could deter him from facing Ospreay at All In. ## Jeff Jarrett Vs Jeff Hardy in a Texas Chainsaw Death Match ## The match was chaotic right from the start. Hardy entered the ring and proceeded to walk through the crowd to the opposite side of the arena. It was there that Jarrett ambushed Hardy under the concourse. The scene became even more convoluted as Karen Jarrett, Matt Hardy, Brother Zay, Sahtnam Singh, and Ethan Page all got involved just a minute into the match. Their scuffle took place in a poorly lit area, making it difficult to discern the action. Matt Hardy poured some substance on the Jarretts, which I believe was meant to resemble blood. ## The skirmish carried on backstage during an extended split-screen break. When the broadcast resumed, Jeff Hardy leaped off some equipment from the backstage area, landing on the pile of wrestlers with a crossbody. They eventually fought their way out to the entrance stage. As the brawl made its way back to the ring, smoke emerged from under the ring, though it ultimately didn't play any significant role. ## Inside the ring, Jarrett found himself alone with the other babyfaces, where tables had been set up in the corners. Jeff Hardy executed a Twist of Fate on Jarrett, sending him crashing onto a table. Hardy followed up with a Swanton Bomb through the table, but Jay Lethal swiftly intervened with a similar move. Page and Matt Hardy attempted their respective finishers, only to be thwarted by low blows from Sonjay Dutt and Karen Jarrett. ## Then, Leatherface entered the scene, the sounds of a chainsaw reverberating through the arena. Leatherface proceeded to chase Karen Jarrett away, although it was puzzling since they appeared to be allies. Inside the ring, Sahtnam Singh reemerged and executed a chokeslam on Jeff Hardy, allowing Jarrett to secure the pinfall victory. Jarrett then celebrated with a title belt resembling Leatherface's. Taz, commentating, quipped, "Well, that was something." And indeed, it was. Not necessarily something positive, but certainly something out of the ordinary. ## WINNER: Jeff Jarrett ## Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. The Bunny (w/ Penelope Ford) ## Baker donned her ring jacket from the inaugural All In event as she made her entrance. The match began with a handshake, but the friendly gesture quickly escalated into shoves and exchanged forearms. Bunny skillfully countered a lockjaw attempt with a cradle, coming close to a pinfall. A clothesline from Bunny drew an actual reaction from the crowd. ## Following a split-screen break, Baker executed a double underhook suplex, nearly securing a victory. Baker then landed a forearm strike and a spinning neckbreaker, coming close to another pinfall. Amidst some unsuccessful interference from Ford, Baker connected with a superkick followed by a stomp, clinching the decisive pinfall victory. ## WINNER: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. ## The Acclaimed vs. Two Enhancement Talents ## Before the match could commence, the arena lights suddenly went dark. When they flickered back on, the two enhancement talents had been replaced by the House of Black. Buddy Murphy and Brody King swiftly launched an attack on the Acclaimed, while Malakai Black and Julia Hart observed from the sidelines. Matthews targeted Caster aggressively, leading to Caster getting cut open by a chain. With the Acclaimed left incapacitated, King presented Malakai Black with Billy Gunn's boots. ## WINNER: The Acclaimed ## The Young Bucks Vs The Gunn Club ## The Bucks sprang onto the Gunns at the entrance stage, leading to a scuffle that spilled into the ring, where Nick and Colton initially kicked things off. The intensity was palpable as all four wrestlers were soon engaged in the action. The Bucks were fueled by their determination after Bullet Club's earlier attack on Omega. ## Through the split-screen break, the Gunns collaborated to double-team Matt. Colton executed an impressive-looking dropkick on Matt, nearly securing a pinfall. A moment of miscommunication resulted in the Gunns clotheslining each other, allowing Nick to make a fiery hot tag. Nick unleashed a superkick on Austin and continued with a springboard facebuster on him, followed by a standing moonsault to the outside onto Colton. The Gunns then executed the 310 to Yuma on Matt, but Nick intervened, breaking up the pinfall with a double stomp from the top rope. ## Austin attempted an O’Connor roll on Nick with assistance from his brother, but Matt intervened with a superkick to Colton. Nick swiftly countered the rollup, and with both Bucks holding down Austin, the three-count was secured. While the initial moments felt a bit disjointed, the match came together more smoothly after the break. ## Post-match, Juice Robinson and Jay White ambushed the Bucks. With Kenny Omega and Adam Page absent, the odds were against the Bucks in the 4-on-2 situation. The Bullet Club aimed to Pillmanize Matt Jackson's previously-injured arm, but FTR arrived in the nick of time. The Bullet Club turned their attention towards the entrance, anticipating FTR's arrival, but FTR sneakily emerged from the crowd on the opposite side to make the save. FTR executed the Shatter Machine on Robinson. After the Bucks and FTR dealt with the Bullet Club, FTR seemed poised to execute the Shatter Machine behind Matt Jackson. However, when the Bucks turned around, FTR opted to pick up their title belts and stood face to face with The Young Bucks. Alongside The Dyad, Joe Gacy and Ava were there as usual, and they were joined by a bunch of Schism members wearing masks. These masked members surrounded the ring, acting like unofficial enforcers, and this played a part in how things unfolded. ## In the initial part of the match, Stacks showcased his skills, even pulling off a swan dive over the ropes. However, he was later stopped in his tracks and sent crashing into the announce desk just before the show went to its first commercial break. ## The match continued even during the commercial break, with Stacks taking a beating from the heels. When the show returned from the break, the heels still had control over Stacks. There was a moment where Stacks almost secured a pin, but the referee got distracted by Tony D. ## The tension escalated, leading to a thrilling tag that brought "The Don" into action. He came into the ring with a burst of energy, taking on The Dyad. Tony D got tagged in but was unexpectedly cut off by a blind tag from The Dyad. Out of nowhere, Ivy Nile made her entrance. Rhea charges into the corner with a running shoulder. She continues with chops in the corner. Rhea performs another Irish whip, but Indi manages to evade Rhea's charge into the corner. ## Unfortunately for Rhea, she collides with the ring post. Indi capitalizes with forearms and punches. Indi executes a spinebuster, resulting in a near fall. An uppercut from Indi causes Rhea to go to the outside. Indi follows Rhea, managing to hoist her onto her shoulders. However, Rhea regains her footing and sends Indi into the ring post. Rhea then picks up Indi and slams her into the ring post. ## Rhea slides Indi back into the ring before returning to the floor and delivering a forceful running forearm to Candice. Indi attempts an inside cradle, earning a close near fall. Rhea responds with a headbutt and follows up with RipTide to secure the three-count victory. ## WINNER: Rhea Ripley ## Shinsuke Nakamura/Seth Rollins segment ## In the ring, Cole conducted an interview with Nakamura, who was dressed in an all-black suit. Cole pointed out Nakamura's long history with Seth Rollins and questioned the reason behind his attack on Rollins the previous week. ## Initially responding in Japanese, Nakamura eventually stated, "I want the world title." Cole probed further, asking about the head kick to Rollins. Nakamura again replied in Japanese before emphasizing, "I win the world title." ## Interrupting the conversation, Rollins made his entrance, clad in an all-white outfit with lace and sporting glasses, creating a striking contrast to Nakamura's attire. Rollins found Nakamura's attack puzzling, considering he could have simply asked for a title shot instead of resorting to such actions. ## Rollins referred to himself as a fighting champion who once held great respect for Nakamura until last week's incident. He emphasized that if Nakamura wanted a title shot, he could have approached him directly. Rollins downplayed the "why" behind Nakamura's actions and focused on the "how" he could exact revenge. ## Rollins granted Nakamura's wish for a title match, highlighting that in order for Rollins to achieve his own desires, he would make Nakamura's wish come true as well. He announced the title match, leaving Nakamura pleased. Rollins proposed Nakamura name the time and place, so he could defeat him. To solidify the agreement, Rollins extended his hand for a shake. ## Nakamura shook Rollins' hand before whispering something into his ear, visibly surprising Rollins. As Rollins looked around in confusion, Nakamura swiftly delivered a Kinshasa, flooring Rollins. ## Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch ## Stratus delivered a headbutt to Lynch using her facemask, but Lynch managed to fight back and execute an exploder. During the encounter, Stratus' facemask came off, prompting a brief pause as the referee allowed her to put it back on. Stratus then attempted a handstand headscissors takedown, though she stumbled and had to make another attempt. At one point, Stratus removed her mask and tried to employ it as a weapon. However, Lynch snatched it away from her. As the referee was engaged in handling the mask, Stratus capitalized and knocked Lynch down. ## Following a commercial break, Lynch mounted a comeback with strikes and a leg drop for a near fall. Stratus rallied with a spear, also resulting in a two-count. Stratus then aimed for a tornado DDT, but Lynch countered and executed a superplex for another near fall. ## In an unexpected turn, Stratus attempted to flee into the crowd, prompting Lynch to pursue her. Seizing the opportunity, Stratus delivered a Chick Kick that left Lynch incapacitated. ## Gunther expressed his frustration to Vinci and Kaiser, calling the situation tonight a total embarrassment. Gunther was unsure about what to do with Vinci, who had been letting him down since they arrived at Raw. Additionally, Kaiser wasn't fulfilling his responsibilities because he was too focused on a girl. ## Kaiser apologized and offered to talk to Pearce to resolve the issue, but Gunther declined the offer. Gunther stated that he would handle the matter himself, as he usually does. He also mentioned that he's going to defend the IC title against Gable next week. ## Pearce confronted Stratus and Stark backstage, clearly angry. He informed them that Stratus and Lynch would have a rematch in a steel cage. ## Cody Rhodes Vs Finn Bálor ## With Rhodes on the outside of the ring, Dom rushed down in a comically exaggerated manner, aiming to attack, but Rhodes kicked him away. This distraction allowed Bálor to execute a baseball slide and gain control before a break. ## Even after the break, Dom and Ripley were still lingering at ringside, even though Dom was clearly trying to interfere right in front of the referee. ## Rhodes countered with a powerslam and Disaster Kick for a two-count. Priest then made his way down to the ring as Bálor used a slingblade and headlock elbow drop on Rhodes for another two-count. Rhodes managed to evade a Coup de Grace and delivered a Cody Cutter. ## While the referee's attention was diverted, Priest tripped Rhodes, but Rhodes fought him off and took out both Priest and Bálor with a dive. As Ripley distracted the referee, Dom crotched Rhodes on the top rope. Bálor followed up with a superplex that resulted in a near fall. ## Dom slid a chair into the ring, but the referee intervened and removed it. With the ref once again distracted by Ripley, Priest slid a briefcase into the ring, which slipped right under Bálor's hands and ended up in Rhodes' possession. ## Taking advantage of the situation, Rhodes used the briefcase (with the ref's back turned), knocked down Priest, and then hit Bálor with his Cross Rhodes finisher for the pinfall victory. ## WINNER: Cody Rhodes ## After the match, Dom and Bálor launched an attack on Rhodes. However, Zayn rushed in wielding a chair to rescue Rhodes. Zayn managed to fend off Priest, but McDonagh caught him off guard from behind. The members of Judgment Day teamed up to beat down both Zayn and Rhodes, while McDonagh observed from the sidelines. Bálor executed a Coup de Grace on Rhodes inside the ring and delivered another one to Zayn outside the ring. ## They then cleared a table, and Priest powerbombed Zayn through it using his Razor's Edge move.
