Thalapathy Vijay latest outing, Jana Nayagan, has wrapped up its first week with the kind of dominance that has become a trademark of his career. As the buzz around his final few films continues to grow, the expectations for this project were sky-high, leading to a massive release across 13,067 shows on its opening day. Over an extended eight-day first week, the film has successfully converted that initial hype into substantial numbers, officially posting a worldwide gross collection of ₹260.25 Cr.
The global performance is backed by a solid domestic trends, where the film earned ₹153.48 Cr in net collections. The journey to this figure was marked by several milestones: it crossed the ₹50 Crore net mark on its first day itself, breached the ₹100 Crore net mark by the end of its first Sunday, and reached the ₹150 Crore net milestone on Day 8. While the Tamil version naturally led the charge with a net of ₹131.02 Cr, the Telugu and Hindi versions added ₹8.83 Cr and ₹13.63 Cr respectively, showing a decent footprint outside its primary market.

In its home territory of Tamil Nadu, Jana Nayagan has achieved a significant historical feat. By grossing ₹102.00 Cr in the state within just one week, it has become the ninth film in Vijay career to cross the 100 Crore gross milestone in Tamil Nadu. This puts the film in an elite club alongside his previous blockbusters like Leo, The Greatest of All Time, Varisu, Bigil, Master, Sarkar, Mersal, and Beast. Beyond the home state, the film also saw strong support in Karnataka with ₹27.08 Cr and Kerala with ₹14.90 Cr gross.
Analyzing the day-wise trend, the film started with a massive ₹42.70 Cr net on Thursday, followed by a 50.5 percent drop on Friday. However, the first weekend saw a strong rebound, with Sunday collections hitting ₹32.00 Cr net. The momentum was eventually challenged on Day 8 by the global release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Marvel wave had a significant impact on national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, where the superhero film sold over 5.94 lakh tickets. This shift in audience attention led to Jana Nayagan show count being reduced to 5,496 and ticket sales in national chains dipping to around 11,114 for the day, resulting in a Day 8 net of ₹3.98 Cr.

The theater occupancy figures throughout the week highlight the strong initial pull and typical weekday stabilization. Day 1 opened with an overall Tamil occupancy of 68.31 percent, with Chennai leading at a near-capacity 97 percent. Bengaluru also showed strong interest with 54.3 percent occupancy on the first day. While weekday occupancy settled between 15 and 25 percent, Sunday saw a massive surge back to 69.04 percent. This high engagement is further evidenced by the footfall data, which recorded a total of 6,341,236 viewers, with the actual seated footfall standing at 4,150,481 for the week.
On the international stage, the film grossed ₹81.00 Cr. According to data from Venky Box Office, the North American market saw a total gross of $1.48M, including a $34K Wednesday. Malaysia remains a primary stronghold with $2.06M, followed by the UK and Europe at $1.7M and the Middle East at $1.31M. Other significant contributors include Singapore at $755K and Australia at $503K. These numbers ensured that the film stayed ahead of the curve globally even as domestic competition increased.
The overseas market has provided a significant cushion, with several key territories posting strong numbers over the first six days. Malaysia remains at the forefront of this international run, contributing $2.06M (approximately ₹17.20 Cr). The UK and Europe market follows closely with a collection of $1.7M (₹14.19 Cr), while the Middle East has added a solid $1.31M (₹10.94 Cr) to the global tally. In other regions, the film found steady footing with Singapore contributing $755K (₹6.30 Cr) and Australia adding $503K (₹4.20 Cr). Even smaller markets like Sri Lanka and other rest-of-world territories combined for $425K (₹3.55 Cr), with New Zealand adding a further $47K (₹0.39 Cr). These figures highlight the consistent global appeal that helps the film offset any weekday fluctuations in the domestic market.

In terms of digital engagement, Jana Nayagan recorded 36.14 lakh tickets sold on BookMyShow by the end of its first week. This performance places it as the fourth-highest first-week ticket seller for a South Indian film, trailing only behind Jailer, Leo, and Coolie, and staying comfortably ahead of The GOAT. A significant portion of this volume came from national chains, which accounted for over 6.75 lakh tickets sold across the eight-day period.
