The Rock's Absence Causes WWE To Alter WrestleMania 39's Championship Lineup And Introduce New Title Belt
Several months ago, WrestlingNews.co first reported plans for two colossal championship matches at the forthcoming WWE WrestleMania 39. According to the report, the intention was to divide the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship eventually. ## At the previous WrestleMania 38, the Universal Champion Roman Reigns conquered WWE Champion Brock Lesnar to merge the titles. ## WrestlingNews.co's report highlighted that the initial blueprint for the first night of WrestleMania 39 was for either Cody Rhodes or Drew McIntyre to confront Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship, while Reigns would take on The Rock. However, WWE had to revise their plans as soon as they found out that The Rock would not partake in the match. ## This Monday, Triple H announced that a new World Heavyweight Champion would be crowned on May 27 at WWE Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. Although unconfirmed, based on the hints dropped on Raw, it appears that Rollins is the leading contender to become the inaugural champion. ## According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the inception of the decision to introduce a second top title belt dates back to WrestleMania 38. ## Meltzer wrote, “The idea of bringing back the second title dates back literally to when the titles were unified at the April 3, 2022, WrestleMania show in Dallas when Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar. We had been told before the match that the company felt it needed two titles, but also based on the Mania stipulation, it had to wait a certain length of time before creating the second one.†## To stay updated with all the latest combat sports news, add Sacnilk.com to your Google News feeds and follow us on Twitter.
