Chennai, April 28 - The second part of filmmaker Mani Ratnam's period drama film Ponniyin Selvan has been released in theaters today, nearly 7 months after the first part hit big screens and turned into one of the biggest blockbusters of Tamil cinema history.



Produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, Ponniyin Selvan is the cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. The film stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others in key roles.

There was eagerness among the fans for Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 and going by the early reactions from audiences, the film doesn't disappoint at all. The movie is mostly getting positive reviews from all sections of the audience and most of them are calling it better than the first part for many reasons.



The performance of the lead cast, especially Vikram as Aditha Karikalan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini has been getting high praise. The direction of Mani Ratnam and the music by AR Rahman are said to have exceeded expectations.
