'Marco' Franchise To Continue With Bollywood Actor?

Kochi, July 1 - A couple of weeks after actor Unni Mukundan announced that he had dropped plans for a sequel to the action thriller Marco, the makers have now confirmed that the franchise will go on (with or without him).

Cubes Entertainments, the production house behind Marco, clarified that they hold the complete rights to the franchise and intend to move forward, despite the actor's withdrawal. The clarification came in response to a fan comment urging the studio to either proceed with Marco 2 or transfer the rights to another banner.

"Thank you for the overwhelming love and support for Marco. Discussions regarding the Marco series are still not over yet. Cubes Entertainment exclusively owns all rights to Marco, and we firmly believe the journey of Marco holds immense potential. Please note: We are not open to transferring or sharing the rights of this franchise,” the studio stated, as per a report by Onmanorama.com.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Marco 2 may be in development with a Bollywood actor stepping into the lead role, although no official confirmation has been made. Unni Mukundan, in a recent social media post, had expressed his decision to step away from the sequel due to the "negativity" surrounding the film's violent themes.

Directed by Haneef Adeni, Marco was a major commercial success, grossing over ₹100 crore worldwide following its release in December 2024. The film had received an 'A' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to its intense and gritty content.
