Blast Opening Weekend Box Office: Worldwide Gross Hits Rs. 21.58 Cr; Sunday Gross Nearly 5X of Opening Day

BY SACNILK

The first weekend for the movie Blast shows how strong word-of-mouth can completely shift a film's box office trajectory. What started as a modest release has quickly turned into a profitable venture for the producers. The movie was made on a reported budget of 15 Cr, and with a major portion of that already recovered through Netflix digital rights, every rupee earned at the ticket window now adds to its success. The gritty vibe of the film and its engaging plot seem to have caught the attention of the audience, leading to an impressive jump in show counts and occupancy as the weekend progressed. Analyzing the growth from the first day to the fourth, the momentum is clearly visible. On Day 1, the film opened with a net collection of 1.25 Cr from 1,728 shows. By Sunday, Day 4, the demand pushed the show count to 2,706, and the net collection grew to 6.00 Cr. This represents a massive surge compared to the opening day. The occupancy levels provide a clearer picture of this trend; in Chennai, the Tamil version started at 39.5 percent occupancy on Thursday and skyrocketed to 73.3 percent by Sunday. Similarly, Coimbatore saw a jump from 25.8 percent to 69.3 percent. This type of growth suggests that the audience is actively recommending the film, which is the best-case scenario for a mid-budget project. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The regional performance has been led by Tamil Nadu, which contributed 3.75 Cr to the gross on Sunday alone, bringing its total state gross to 9.30 Cr. Kerala has also emerged as a strong market, with a Sunday gross of 1.45 Cr taking its total to 2.56 Cr. In the Telugu states, the movie earned 1.00 Cr gross on Day 4, with Hyderabad recording a 32 percent occupancy. Significantly, the total India gross of 16.03 Cr has already overtaken the film's 15 Cr production budget within the first four days. With digital rights already securing the investment and the worldwide gross standing at 21.58 Cr, the project has moved into a super-profitable zone. Ticketing momentum in national chains and digital platforms also tells a story of increasing popularity. Over 42,000 tickets were sold in national chains throughout the weekend. The momentum built up significantly from around 7,300 tickets on Day 1 to a peak of 17,000 tickets on Saturday, followed by 11,000 on Sunday. On BookMyShow, the engagement has been high, with over 1.42 Lakh tickets sold in the last 24 hours alone. The total tickets sold on the platform have now reached 399.53K, indicating a very active interest from urban audiences who are driving the multiplex numbers. Internationally, the film is finding a decent footing as well. The worldwide gross collection has reached 21.58 Cr, supported by an overseas total of 5.55 Cr. The Middle East has been a standout performer in the international circuit, grossing $140K in the first two days alone. By the end of the four-day weekend, the total India gross stands at 16.03 Cr. Given the low cost of production and the high recovery from digital rights, Blast is currently positioned as one of the most efficient commercial successes of the year. Suriya's latest film, Karuppu, is maintaining its momentum as it moves into the third week of its theatrical run. The film offers a raw, grounded narrative that relies heavily on a high-intensity performance by Suriya, moving away from typical commercial tropes to deliver something that feels visceral. This authenticity has clearly resonated with the audience, as the occupancy rates throughout the third weekend remained consistently high, particularly in urban centers where the gritty atmosphere of the plot has found a dedicated following. It is not just about the star power anymore; the plot's ability to keep viewers engaged for seventeen days straight is the real driver behind these numbers. Looking at the specific data, the third Friday or Day 15 saw a net collection of 3.25 Cr. While this represented a 34.3 percent drop from the previous day's 4.95 Cr, the film was still playing across 3,024 shows with an overall occupancy of 22.9 percent. Regional performance on Friday remained steady, with Chennai maintaining 455 shows at a 32.8 percent occupancy rate, peaking at 43 percent during night screenings. Coimbatore followed with 157 shows at 27.8 percent occupancy. In the Telugu states, Hyderabad managed 235 shows with a 12.3 percent occupancy, while Bengaluru held 234 shows at 10.5 percent. This solid footprint across major cities set the foundation for the significant surge that followed over the next two days. Saturday witnessed a massive turnaround as the collection jumped by 58.5 percent to reach 5.15 Cr net. The total number of shows increased to 3,292, and the overall occupancy rose to 29.1 percent. By the end of Day 16, the total India net collection had reached 176.55 Cr, while the worldwide gross climbed to 281.21 Cr. The overseas market contributed 2.00 Cr on this day alone, pushing the international total to 77.00 Cr. This momentum signaled that the movie was still the primary choice for cinema-goers despite being in its third week, with the audience volume showing a healthy trend that typically suggests long-term stability. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Sunday brought in the peak performance of the weekend with a net collection of 5.90 Cr, marking a 14.6 percent growth from Saturday. The film reached its highest show count of the weekend at 3,327 shows with an improved overall occupancy of 33.1 percent. The Tamil version led the daily total with 5.20 Cr net from 2,353 shows at a 39 percent occupancy rate, while the Telugu version added 0.70 Cr from 974 shows. In national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film was a dominant force. On Sunday alone, these chains sold approximately 18,100 tickets, with PVR accounting for roughly 12,700 tickets, INOX for 4,600, and Cinepolis for 800. This pushed the total weekend ticket sales in national chains to over 57,500, outperforming all other current releases. The cumulative BMS sales have now reached 4.31 million, placing Karuppu in the elite tier of recent high-volume ticket sellers, trailing just behind major hits like Amaran. Internationally, the film is achieving milestones that redefine its global reach. In Malaysia, the movie has already collected RM 9.74 million and is currently on track to reach the RM 10 million mark soon. In North America, the film added 11K on Friday to reach a total of 1.34 million. The consolidated impact of this third weekend reinforces the movie's status as a major draw, with the film bringing in a net of 14.30 Cr over the three days. This phase has been instrumental in solidifying the film's financial standing, especially with the international circuit maintaining a steady flow to push the total overseas gross to 78.25 Cr. Suriya's Vishwanath And Sons Reportedly Locks 100+ Crore Non-Theatrical and Theatrical Business

BY SACNILK

Chennai, May 31 - Tamil superstar Suriya is on cloud nine after the blockbuster success of Karuppu, and his upcoming film Vishwanath And Sons is already generating strong buzz in the trade circles. The family comedy drama is scheduled to release this August, and the latest reports suggest that the film has secured a massive theatrical and non-theatrical deal. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to the Tamil media reports, Vishwanath And Sons has reportedly locked over 100 crore in non-theatrical and overseas revenue, significantly strengthening the film's financial position ahead of its arrival in cinemas. The biggest contributor to the film's pre-release business is said to be its digital streaming rights. Reports indicate that the OTT rights have been sold for a whopping 85+ crore. In recent years, OTT deals have become a crucial revenue stream for big-budget Indian films, and Vishwanath And Sons appears to have secured one of the most notable digital agreements for a Suriya starrer. Apart from the digital rights, the film has reportedly fetched 12+ crore through its music rights, while the overseas distribution rights are said to have been sold for 15+ crore, indicating strong interest in international markets. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With the combined value exceeding 112 crore, the film has already recovered a substantial portion of its reported production cost of 120+ crores. With Tamil Nadu and the rest of India theatrical deals are yet to be locked, the makers are already in profit even before its big screen debut on August 14. The development also highlights the continued demand for star-driven Tamil films in the digital and overseas markets, where established actors like Suriya command considerable value. The numbers have already become a major talking point among trade observers, and if the film manages to generate strong theatrical revenues upon release, Vishwanath And Sons could emerge as a back-to-back major success for Suriya.

The action-drama genre in Tamil cinema has found a fresh pulse with Blast, a film that combines a high-stakes martial arts core with a grounded narrative about a family's survival against corporate greed. The story follows Rajaraman, Neelaveni, and their fearless daughter Nila, whose intervention in a local harassment case leads them into a dangerous confrontation with a violent sand mining baron, Varun. This battle of karate versus criminal syndicates has clearly piqued the audience's interest, further bolstered by the thunderous Tamil debut of music director Ravi Basrur, who brings his signature sonic weight to the project. As we head into the conclusion of the first weekend, Blast has witnessed an extraordinary surge in its trajectory. It appears that positive word of mouth is doing the heavy lifting, as the film has managed to see a notable surge in footfalls every single day of its opening run. On its third day, this momentum delivered a massive shot of oxygen to the box office, with a net collection of 4.55 crore. This represents a staggering 111.6 percent growth compared to Saturday’s 2.15 crore, proving that Sunday has been a complete game-changer. This push brings the total India net collection to 7.95 crore within just three days, with the film playing across 2,294 shows on Sunday alone. The worldwide picture looks equally healthy for a mid-budget actioner. While the India gross has reached 9.13 crore, the overseas market contributed a solid 2.00 crore on Sunday, taking the total international gross to 4.05 crore. This brings the overall worldwide gross tally to 13.18 crore. When you consider that the film has sustained itself across a total of 5,911 shows so far, it is evident that the moolah is coming in from multiple territories with consistent momentum. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Looking at the state-wise breakdown for Sunday, Tamil Nadu remains the primary engine, contributing 3.00 crore gross to the kitty. However, the film is finding traction in neighboring states as well, with Kerala pulling in 80 lakhs and the Telugu market (APTG) adding another 75 lakhs. Karnataka saw a gross of 64 lakhs, while the rest of India contributed 4 lakhs, bringing the single-day India gross for Sunday to 5.23 crore. The Telugu version is also holding its own, particularly in Hyderabad, where overall occupancy stood at 32.5 percent. The ground-level occupancy in Tamil Nadu is particularly impressive, indicating strong word-of-mouth. Chennai led the charts with a 64.8 percent overall occupancy, peaking at a massive 85 percent for the night shows. Coimbatore followed closely with 58.5 percent occupancy. Even in smaller Telugu centers like Vijayawada and Vizag, the film maintained steady occupancy levels between 17 and 20 percent. The footfalls are also reflected on digital platforms, with BookMyShow recording 152,890 tickets sold in the last 24 hours, bringing the platform's total to nearly 249,000 tickets. In the national chains, the film saw a significant volume of ticket sales as well. PVR saw approximately 12,000 tickets sold, while INOX and Cinepolis contributed roughly 3,500 and 1,700 tickets respectively. This brings the total ticket count in these three major chains to 17,200 for the day. For a film marking Ravi Basrur's entry into the Tamil market, the initial response suggests that the combination of gritty action and martial arts training has successfully landed with the mass audience.

Chennai, May 30 - Suriya is enjoying one of the biggest box office triumphs of his career as Karuppu continues to dominate theatres across India and overseas markets. The fantasy action entertainer, directed by RJ Balaji, is marching towards a historic double milestone for the Tamil superstar at the domestic and worldwide box office. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) After 15 days in theatres, Karuppu has grossed approximately 274 crore worldwide and 134 crore in Tamil Nadu, which are already record numbers for the Singam actor. The film opened to strong collections and maintained excellent momentum through its first two weeks, putting it firmly on course to cross 300 crore globally and 150 crore in its home state. The film has emerged as the biggest Tamil hit of 2026 (so far), drawing audiences across domestic and international markets. At the time of writing this piece, it has topped 200 crores at the Indian box office, becoming the first film for Suriya to do so, as Tamil Nadu remains the film's strongest territory. With 134 crore already collected in just 15 days, Karuppu is expected to comfortably surpass the 150 crore mark in the state over the coming days. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Overseas markets have also contributed significantly to the film's success, with 75+ crores in 15 days. Karuppu Day 15 Box Office: God Mode Starrer earns 3.73 Cr; hitting 200 Cr India Gross today

Karuppu has entered its third week at the box office with a steady performance, bringing its total India net collection to 171.40 crore. On its 15th day, which was the third Friday, the film earned a net of 3.25 crore across 3,024 shows in India. This figure marks a 34.3 percent drop from the 4.95 crore collected on the previous day. This is expected as the film has been enjoying a high momentum period for an extended time, and it is now settling into a more consistent pace for its long run, with natural ups and downs during the holiday period. The total India gross collection currently stands at 198.28 crore. Given the usual jump in footfalls during the weekend, the movie is guaranteed to cross the 200 crore gross mark in India by today, its 16th day. This puts Karuppu in an elite club of high-earning regional films that have managed to sustain interest deep into their theatrical run. Looking at the engagement on BookMyShow for this third Friday, Karuppu sold approximately 77,000 tickets. By doing so, it has surpassed many other blockbusters like Leo and GOAT and is trailing only behind Jailer and Amaran, which sold 135,000 and 115,000 tickets respectively on their third Fridays. While Karuppu is slightly behind these giants, its overall performance remains robust, with a total of 4,095,560 tickets booked on the platform so far. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In terms of national cinema chains, the advance bookings for Day 15 showed focused interest. PVR led the contributions with 10,000 tickets, followed by INOX with 3,800 tickets and Cinepolis with 700 tickets. This brings the total across these major chains to 14,500 tickets, generating a gross of 21.53 lakhs. These numbers indicate that while the mass centers are driving the bulk of the revenue, the urban audience in multiplexes is still contributing to the daily totals. The regional breakdown highlights Tamil Nadu as the primary contributor, accounting for 2.90 crore of the 3.73 crore gross earned on Day 15. The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana markets added 0.50 crore, while Karnataka and Kerala contributed 0.20 crore and 0.12 crore respectively. In terms of language, the Tamil version remains the dominant force with a net of 2.85 crore, while the Telugu version brought in 0.40 crore. Cities like Chennai and Coimbatore maintain healthy occupancy rates at 32.8 percent and 27.8 percent, showing the film still has legs in its home state. In the Telugu market, Hyderabad had the highest show count, with the film running across 235 shows at an overall average occupancy of over 12 percent, followed by Vizag-Visakhapatnam with the film running across 63 shows at the same average occupancy level. Globally, Karuppu is also making its mark. The film collected 1.75 crore from overseas markets on Day 15, taking its total international gross to 75.75 crore. When we combine the domestic gross of 198.28 crore with the overseas earnings, the worldwide gross collection has reached 274.03 crore. With 76,385 shows completed across its run, the movie has successfully transitioned from a strong opening into a reliable hit that continues to draw audiences into the third week.

The Paradise Box Office War: Nani Set for a Historic Showdown Against Suriya, Dulquer, and Prithviraj This August

BY SACNILK

The upcoming August 2026 box office window is shaping up to be one of the most crowded and high-stakes periods for South Indian cinema in recent memory. Within a span of just eight days, four major superstars are bringing their highly anticipated projects to the big screen. This lineup creates a massive logistical challenge for theater owners and a feast for moviegoers, but it also raises important questions about whether such a close release schedule is a benefit or a risk for the industry. The wave begins on August 14 with Suriya's Vishwanath and Sons. Directed by Venky Atluri, this film stands out from the rest as it is a nuanced family drama and sports-romance rather than a typical mass-genre entertainer. Suriya plays an international pistol-shooting champion in a bilingual project shot in both Tamil and Telugu. While it gets a head start by releasing almost a week earlier, it will need to maintain strong word-of-mouth to survive the onslaught of three massive action films arriving just days later. The real explosion happens on August 20, when two of Malayalam cinema's biggest stars, Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, go head-to-head. Dulquer's I'm Game, directed by Nahas Hidayath, is a pan-Indian action-thriller exploring themes of cricket betting and fantasy gaming. On the same day, Prithviraj's Khalifa hits theaters. Subtitled The Bloodline, this underworld saga features an extended cameo by Mohanlal, which has already sent expectations soaring. These two films will compete directly for screen space in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and international markets like the Middle East. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The pressure intensifies just 24 hours later on August 21, with the release of Nani's period action-drama, The Paradise. Directed by Srikanth Odela and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, this film is set in the 1980s slums of Secunderabad. While Nani is expected to dominate the Telugu states, the overlap with the other releases is undeniable. In an interesting twist, actress Kayadu Lohar finds herself as the female lead in both I'm Game and The Paradise, meaning she will literally be competing against herself at the box office on the same weekend. A clash of this magnitude acts as a double-edged sword for the industry. On the positive side, it creates a massive surge in overall footfalls, turning the weekend into a festival-like atmosphere. The wide variety of genres—ranging from Suriya's family sports drama to the gritty underworld themes of Khalifa and the period setting of The Paradise—ensures that there is something for every type of moviegoer. The real challenge, however, lies in how the screens are distributed once the word of mouth kicks in. Unlike a solo release where a hit can monopolize every screen in a city, these four films will have to fight to retain their shows from the very first day. An average film that might have survived in a solo window could see its screens replaced much faster in this scenario, as theaters will have three other high-demand alternatives ready to take over. It effectively becomes a survival of the fittest scenario where only the strongest content will thrive. Furthermore, the marketing costs for each production house will skyrocket as they fight for the audience's attention in a cluttered space. While Nani's The Paradise may hold the upper hand in the AP-TG region and Dulquer's I'm Game might lead in Tamil and Malayalam markets, the overlap in the Telugu-Tamil bilingual space for Suriya and the pan-Indian aspirations of the others will lead to a fragmented box office. Ultimately, the success of this August madness will depend on whether the quality of the content can sustain four different narratives simultaneously, or if one dominant film will eventually push the others out of the race.

After Career Best Blockbuster Karuppu, Suriya's Next Vishwanath And Sons Gets A Release Date

BY SACNILK

The buzz surrounding Suriya's upcoming projects is reaching a new high, especially after the massive success of his recent release Karuppu. While fans are still celebrating the god mode performance of Karuppu at the box office, a fresh update regarding his next film, Vishwanath and Sons, has surfaced. According to a report by Aakashavaani, this highly anticipated family drama and sports-romance is likely to hit theatres on August 14, 2026. Vishwanath and Sons is not a typical sports drama. It features an intriguing age-gap romance that navigates the relationship between a middle-aged man and a woman half his age. Suriya plays the role of Sanjay Vishwanath, a 40-year-old elite international pistol-shooting champion who is striving to reach the top of his sport. Interestingly, the name Sanjay is a nostalgic nod to his iconic character Sanjay Ramasamy from the 2005 blockbuster Ghajini, which has already sparked a lot of curiosity among fans. The film marks the official Tamil directorial debut of Venky Atluri, who is fresh off the success of Lucky Baskhar and Vaathi. Starring alongside Suriya is Mamitha Baiju, who plays a 20-year-old named Maddy. The story begins with a mentor-student dynamic that eventually evolves into a complex romance which Sanjay's character continuously resists. This emotional core, combined with the backdrop of professional pistol shooting, makes it one of the most unique scripts in Suriya's career. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On the technical side, the film boasts a strong crew with G.V. Prakash Kumar composing the music, Nimish Ravi handling the cinematography, and Navin Nooli taking care of the editing. The project is being jointly produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. Since it is a bilingual film, it has been simultaneously shot in both Tamil and Telugu to ensure a grand release across both markets this August. The timing of this release is significant given the current box office climate. Suriya's Karuppu has made a massive impact, dominating the charts and showing incredible resilience in its second week. The way Karuppu connected with the audience has set a very positive stage for Vishwanath and Sons. The industry is watching closely to see if Suriya can maintain this golden run as he transitions from an intense role to this nuanced family drama. Beyond this, Suriya is also busy with his 47th project, an action-comedy directed by Jithu Madhavan, known for Aavesham. This film, co-starring Naslen, is expected to wrap up its shoot by June 2026. While Vishwanath and Sons is geared for an August release, Suriya 47 is being planned for a grand theatrical celebration toward the end of the year or during the Pongal 2027 season. With multiple diverse projects lined up, it looks like a very busy and promising time for the actor and his fans.

Karuppu has firmly established itself as the undisputed top performer of 2026, holding the number one position with a dominance that is hard to ignore. As we move into the second week, the film continues to show remarkable resilience at the box office. According to early trends, Karuppu earned a net collection of ₹4.00 Cr on its second Wednesday. This reflects a minor 10.1 percent drop from the previous day net of ₹4.45 Cr, which is a very healthy hold for a weekday. This latest addition brings the total India net collection to ₹163.20 Cr. On the gross front, the film collected ₹4.61 Cr on Day 13, which is particularly impressive as it has surpassed the Day 13 gross collections of previous major hits like Jailer. When we look at the historical rankings for the second Wednesday in the Tamil market, Karuppu has successfully secured a position among the top five all-time earners. It currently sits in the fifth spot with a Tamil net of ₹3.30 Cr. To give you some context on the competition, Master leads the list with ₹5.90 Cr, followed by Varisu at ₹5.15 Cr, Sarkar at ₹4.00 Cr, and Thunivu at ₹3.65 Cr. Matching these kinds of numbers in its second week proves that the film has high repeat value and strong word-of-mouth. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In the national chains, the performance remained solid for a thirteenth day. PVR led the way with roughly 8,290 tickets sold, bringing in a gross of ₹11.10L. INOX followed with 3,270 tickets and a gross of ₹3.90L, while Cinepolis added another 940 tickets with a gross of ₹1.33L. In total, the big three chains accounted for approximately 12,500 tickets and a combined gross of ₹16.30L for the day. The ticket booking platforms tell a similar story of high demand. On BookMyShow, the film saw 81.96K tickets booked on its second Wednesday. This follows a strong second Monday of 100.84K and a second Tuesday of 79.16K. To put this in perspective, even a massive hit like Jailer saw 99K sales on its second Wednesday, showing that Karuppu is playing in the big leagues. So far, the total tickets booked on the platform have reached a staggering 39,24,510. With today being a public holiday for Bakrid, sales and collections are expected to see a significant jump. This boost should easily push the film past the 4 million ticket mark on the platform by the end of the day. The global footprint is equally impressive. Based on Early trends On Day 13, the film collected ₹1.00 Cr from overseas markets, taking the total overseas gross to ₹70.00 Cr. When you combine the domestic and international numbers, the worldwide gross collection has now reached ₹258.85 Cr. May 2026 Box Office Report: Regional Cinema Dominates With Kruppu, Drishyam 3, Raja Shivaji Amid Bollywood's Struggle

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, May 30 - May 2026 turned out to be one of the most successful months for the Indian box office, with at least three major theatrical wins across the film industry. While the Tamil and Malayalam film industries continued their solid run through Karuppu and Drishyam 3, respectively, the biggest surprise came from Marathi cinema as Deool Band 2 emerged as an unexpected blockbuster, amid the underperforming Bollywood titles. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Karuppu and Drishyam 3's Blockbuster Run Suriya's Karuppu turned out to be a massive commercial success for Tamil cinema. Directed by RJ Balaji, the action drama shattered every major career record for Suriya and maintained extraordinary momentum throughout the month. Released on May 15, the film has crossed 270 crores worldwide in just 15 days so far, also earning more than 2x of Suriya's previous biggest grosser, Singam 2. The film has performed exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu with 130+ crores gross so far, while also drawing strong support from the rest of the domestic and overseas audiences. Meanwhile, Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 once again showcased the power of one of Indian cinema's most celebrated thriller franchises. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film opened to phenomenal numbers and continued its solid run across domestic and overseas markets despite mixed reception. Kerala led the charge on the domestic front, but the overseas market is once again proving to be a major contributor for a Malayalam title. In just 8 days so far, the film has minted 200+ crores worldwide, including 100+ crores overseas collection. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Marathi Cinema Wins Big With Raja Shivaji's and Deool Band 2 Marathi cinema has emerged as a major winner this month with the blockbuster run of Raja Shivaji, and an unexpected success in Deool Band 2. Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji scripted history by emerging as the highest-grossing Marathi film of all-time, beating Sairat's 110 crores record, which stood for nearly 10 years. Released on May 1st, the historical epic has grossed over 115 crores worldwide in 29 days so far. Meanwhile, devotional drama, Deool Band 2, scored the limelight by delivering a surprise success. After a 2.90 crore gross opening, the film witnessed solid growth over the weekend due to positive word of mouth and showed remarkable consistency on weekdays. In 8 days so far, the film has minted 39+ crores gross, and is marching towards 50 crores, which is a blockbuster for the film of its scale. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Bollywood Underperforms With Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and Chand Mera Dil In contrast to the regional dominance, May 2026 also witnessed disappointments in Hindi cinema. Films like Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and Chand Mera Dil failed to generate the theatrical momentum the industry had expected. Pati Patni Aur Woh Do struggled to attract audiences despite being a sequel. The film opened to underwhelming occupancies and failed to show significant growth over the weekend. While PPAWD has managed to cross 50 crores worldwide, the overall total remains low considering the scale and expectations. Similarly, romantic drama Chand Mera Dil also failed to capitalise on its urban appeal and music-driven promotions. After failing to score a decent opening, the film hasn't shown the momentum required for a rebound. It has grossed around 28.50 crores so far in 8 days, which is a poor collection. Karuppu Day 12 Box Office: Suriya's steady hold collects Rs. 5.09 Cr gross to break into Kollywood's Top 3 list

Karuppu is maintaining a steady grip at the box office as it completes its second Tuesday in theaters. After a strong opening week, the film is now navigating the usual weekday trend with a logical dip in numbers. Based on early estimates, the movie earned a net collection of 4.45 Cr in India on its 12th day. When we look at the trajectory, this represents a 24.6 percent drop from the previous day, which saw a collection of 5.90 Cr. It is a standard pattern for a big-budget film in its second week, and the steady count of 4,470 shows indicates that the film continues to hold a significant presence across screens. A significant milestone to note is that the film officially crossed the 150 Crore net mark in India on its 11th day itself. Reaching this level within just 11 days of release is a clear indicator of its strong box office pull and puts it in an elite bracket of performers. As of the end of Day 12, the total India net has climbed to 159.20 Cr, while the gross collections stand at 184.26 Cr. Looking back at the Day 11 trend, the film saw a typical post-weekend drop of 60 percent, but the steady performance on Tuesday suggests a consistent interest from the audience during the weekdays. Karuppu has managed to break into the top three for the highest second Tuesday net collections in the Tamil language. By earning 3.65 Cr from the Tamil version alone on its 12th day, it has outperformed hits like Amaran and Vikram. Here is the state-wise gross collection report for Day 12: Tamil Nadu: 3.70 Cr APTG: 0.80 Cr Karnataka: 0.30 Cr Kerala: 0.21 Cr Rest of India: 0.08 Cr Total Day 12 Gross: 5.09 Cr When we dive into city-level data, Chennai remains the powerhouse for the film with a 36 percent overall occupancy. The night shows in Chennai saw a peak of 41 percent, showing that the urban audience is still turning up in good numbers. Other regions like Coimbatore and Madurai are also showing healthy trends with 29.8 percent and 22 percent occupancy respectively. Bengaluru is seeing a more modest performance at 11.5 percent, which is typical for a Tamil film in its second week in that market. In terms of ticket sales in national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film is holding its own even with new competition like Drishyam 3. For Day 12, the national chains contributed around 18.7 Lakhs to the advance gross. Specifically, PVR brought in 12.5 Lakhs, INOX contributed 4.9 Lakhs, and Cinepolis added 1.3 Lakhs. These figures show that while the volume is lower than the opening weekend, the interest remains sustained in multiplexes. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The ticket sales on BookMyShow also tell an interesting story, with Karuppu selling 79.16K tickets on its second Tuesday. If we look at how other major blockbusters have performed, Jailer sold 108K tickets on its second Tuesday. While Karuppu is trailing that specific record, selling nearly 80K tickets on a weekday is a very healthy sign. Total tickets sold on the platform have now reached a significant 38.42 Lakhs. On the global front, Suriya is witnessing a career-best performance in several markets, with early estimates suggesting the film added another 1.00 Cr on Day 12. In the UK and Ireland, the film has smashed records by crossing 400K Pounds [approximately 4.35 Cr] in just 11 days, marking it as a mega blockbuster in that region. Over in North America, according to data from Venky Box Office, the film earned 40K Dollars [around 33.5 Lakhs] on Monday, taking its total there to 1.29 Million Dollars [roughly 10.80 Cr]. Through the second weekend, the total overseas gross stands at 7.05 Million Dollars [67.1 Cr]. In total, the worldwide gross for Karuppu has now reached 253.26 Cr. With a total show count of 64,922 across its 12-day run, the film has managed to balance domestic strength with an impressive overseas footprint. The logical trend suggests it will continue to add to its tally before the next set of big releases arrives.
