Mumbai, Dec 14, 2021: Raj Kapoor was the son of well-known Indian actor Prithviraj Kapoor, who acted both in film and on stage. After apprenticing in the Bollywood production studios of the 1940s, at 24 years of age Raj Kapoor produced, directed, and acted in Aag (1948), with his new company, RK Films.

His next production, Barsaat (1949) which became a smash hit preceding go another similar level hit Andaz earlier had established Raj Kapoor as one of the major stars of that time.

The turn of the decade saw Raj Kapoor dominating the Box office like no other star in terms of historic grosser. Awaara in 1951 not only became the top grosser of its year but also emerged as the biggest grosser of the industry, destroying his own record of Barsaat. Shree420 repeated the same phenomena in 1955 and to date remains one of the Grandest Blockbusters of the Indian cinema.

Awaara also gained popular acclaim in Russia, where the movie and songs were dubbed into Russian. The theme song, Awaara Hoon, was popular in the East for many years. Raj Kapoor was one of few rare stars who had enjoyed great popularity in Russia and broke the barriers.

Raj Kapoor to date remains the Biggest director the Hindi film industry has ever witnessed. In his long-successful career as a director, Raj Kapoor had directed the biggest hit of 1949 Barsaat and the biggest hit of 1985 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' which gives an outstanding gap of 36 years and there were many Biggest hits of the year in between those 36 years.
