Netizens Slam Filmfare For Picking Ranveer Singh Over Sidharth Malhotra For Best Actor Award

Mumbai, August 31 - The 67th Filmfare Awards winners have been announced and it has left a section of people disappointed regarding the Best Actor. Ranveer Singh, who played the role of legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev in "83", has been awarded the Best Actor award, however, many people believe that it was Sidharth Malhotra who deserved this honor most for "Shershaah". ## Sidharth Malhotra played the role of the Kargil war hero, Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra and his twin brother Vishal in the Vishnuvardhan-directorial film. Sidharth's performance in the film is regarded as the finest act of his career. ## The actor was nominated for the Best Actor award with Ranveer Singh (83), Dhanush (Atrangi Re), and Vicky Kaushal (Sardar Uddham), but it was Ranveer, who grabbed the honor at 67th Filmfare Awards 2022. This didn't go well with people who were sure about Sidharth's chances for the award. They took to Twitter and expressed their disappointment on the same. ## This aint fair. If someone deserved the best actor award this year, it was @SidMalhotra for Shershaah. Filmfare has been really biased with this decision. Disappointed. https://t.co/B6RZpUiCII— Sara Naveed (@SaraNaveed) August 30, 2022 ## #FilmfareAwards2022 goes too #RanveerSingh forhis movie 83 this is very shocked. '83' Director Kabir Khan: Very Unprofessional Behaviour On Part Of Certain Film Trade Analysts (IANS Exclusive)

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) Kabir Khan is one filmmaker, who tells important stories in the most entertaining and engaging way. However, as much as his earlier films have performed well, the box-office performance of '83' has been severely affected by the third wave of Covid-19.## From his mainstream directorial debut 'Kabul Express' to the most recent '83', his filmography boasts of films that make a difference.## The recent wave of the pandemic simmered through the third week of December 2021 and exploded around the film's release with several states tightening the civil movements, capping strength at public places and capital city Delhi, which accounts for 7 - 8 percent of collections, shutting down its cinema halls completely.## Kabir recently spoke with IANS where he deconstructed the reasons behind the film's collections, misreporting on the part of certain film trade analysts and his commitment to serve a story of a lifetime to the audience in the form of '83'.## Being a mainstream filmmaker is a matter of sheer will and the director has plenty of it, "We made the film and waited for 1.5 years because we were very sure that we wanted people to see it on the big screen. We had designed it for the big screen or the cinema viewing experience".## Shedding light on the process behind putting up a film like '83', he says, "It was two years of a process to set up '83' because the scale was humongous. The events, people, clothes, hair, props everything now is different from what it used to be earlier in the '80s. From the setting of structures, referencing, research, a live recording of matches to radio commentary, the film has been put together piece by piece".## However, he mentions that in times like these, where the pandemic has thrown every bet off the table, it's impossible to precisely plan a film's release, "With the threat of pandemic still looming large even after 2 years, it's impossible to plan with a great degree of accuracy when it comes to the release of films. Unfortunately, the day we released '83' was when the explosion of the third wave took place".## He continues, "Not just for us but for everyone, it came out of nowhere, no one could have foreseen it. At the onset of the third wave, there were around 6,000 cases a day in India, 15 days later we are clocking 1.6 lakh cases a day. By the second day of the film's release, 3 states had declared night curfews".## The filmmaker further breaks it down, "On day 4, Delhi, which is a big territory, decided to shut down its cinema halls, severely impacting the film's business. By the 6th day another 2 - 3 states shut down their cinemas, another 10 - 11 states went under night curfew. At some places, theatres are running at 33 percent occupancy or 50 percent occupancy. So it's been really disappointing for us in terms of not just being able to make it available to people in the theatres".## Kabir holds a certain section of film trade analysts accountable for reporting the numbers without the context, "There has been very unprofessional behavior on the part of certain trade analysts where they are reporting numbers without taking the pandemic into the context. This really surprises me because while reporting something you have to take into account the factors that lead to a situation, if not then you are not staying true to your profession".## He adds that despite the historic pandemic, the film has impressed people, "The film has a strong word of mouth, it's not translating into theatre footfall because the access to theatres is not there in major places of exhibition. The fear is still playing on the minds of people. There were so many films that were supposed to come immediately after us, they all pushed their release dates. They had the benefit of time, we didn't have that benefit".## Extending his thread about the lack of time benefit, he says, "Literally, the day of the release was the day when the cases started piling up in the country. The third wave has been the fastest; the rate of infection is far greater compared to the earlier two waves. The speed with which it hit us, no one could have really planned in a situation like this".## But despite theatres running at limited capacity, people have showered love on the film, as Kabir says, "But at the same time, I must say that those who have gone to theatres at places where the restrictions are not much stringent have shown so much love to the film. The kind of messages that we are getting on social media is really overwhelming".## For him as a storyteller, the audience's love holds the highest place in his heart, "And that's what counts. A film's success is determined by how long it stays in your hearts and in the minds of people and with regards to that '83' holds a very special place in the hearts of the audience".## Ask him if '83' would go for an extended theatrical run in the theatres once the dust of third-wave settles down and he says as a parting shot, "That is the way for us to do it, we were committed right from the word go to bring this film out in theatres at great cost of interest and everything and we're committed to that".## Stay tuned...

Ranveer Singh Likes To Turn Challenges Into Canvas For His Characters

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) Bollywood star Ranveer Singh derives inspiration from challenges that push him to do better. Whenever he gets offered a daunting character, he does get rattled and nervous but the actor doesn't let himself get bogged down by the challenge.## Instead, he uses nervous energy to sketch characters that connect with the audience at large.## Commenting on the same, the actor says, "I like daunting challenges. I feel daunted when they are pitched or presented to me. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali comes with Alauddin Khilji or Kabir Khan comes with Kapil Dev or Rohit Shetty with a full-blown masala character like 'Simmba', initially, I do get rattled, I do get daunted and feel nervous".## He continues, "But it's nervous energy. I learnt from Kris Srikkanth, who I have had the good fortune to spend time with during the '83' movie promotions. He told me its energy - it cannot be created or destroyed, it can be transmitted, transformed. So, I take this nervousness and I channel it into the energy that I use to pursue this path of transformation. It's those challenges that excite me and I embrace them fully".## He further says, "Kapil Dev has such a distinctive persona, body language, way of talking, it's a huge challenge but I was up to it and was excited about it. I was like this is a new challenge, this is something I haven't done before".## He adds, "There are other instances of villainous characters or these characters - they've not got a living reference. It's a different kind of challenge where you have to create from your imagination. But here I had to become a person who was so well and widely known and recognized. It was very daunting".## Ranveer is also hugely inspired by three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, who is known for his transformations in movies, "It's my endeavor to create characters that are distinctive and different from each other because growing up as an aspiring actor I felt most fascinated with those actors who are able to show a wide range in their repertoire, who are able to transform themselves, who can be shapeshifters, chameleons like Daniel Day-Lewis".## He concludes, "You see one film of one person and see the other film - it's like two different people that used to blow my mind. So I endeavor to be that way, I aspire to be that way".## Ranveer will be next seen in YRF's 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar', Shankar's remake of his blockbuster 'Anniyan', Rohit Shetty's 'Cirkus' and Karan Johar's 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani'.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Sports Biopic '83' Goes Past Rs. 100 Cr. Domestic Net

Mumbai, January 10 - Ranveer Singh-starrer "83" has become the second Bollywood film to reach Rs. 100 crores net at the domestic box office since the last year. The sports biopic netted approx 3.50 crores in the 3rd weekend, pushing its total India net to Rs. 100.50 crores for all languages. ## "83" becomes the 6th film for Ranveer Singh to enter Rs. 100 crores net club. "Padmaavat" remains his highest net earning film of all time with Rs. 302.15 cr., followed by Simmba (Rs. 240.3 cr.), Bajirao Mastani (Rs. 184.3 cr.), Gully Boy (Rs. 139.63 cr.), and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (Rs. 117.53 cr.). ## At the overseas box office, the Kabir Khan-directed has grossed approx Rs. 59 crores in 17 days, helping its worldwide gross total to reach Rs. 176 crores after the 3rd weekend. It is only the second Bollywood film after Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" to gross over Rs. 150 crores worldwide since Ajay Devgn's "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020.## Despite all the aforementioned box office numbers, makers would be feeling that the movie has underperformed at the box office. It was looked like an outright blockbuster, however, the competition with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and Allu Arjun's "Pushpa" have reduced its chances to go big in Hindi markets, plus, the restrictions on cinemas have also hit it hard. ## While "83" is finding it difficult to cope up with current circumstances, Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" is going wild at the box office in Hindi versions. In fact, this action-thriller is growing day by day, especially on single screens. The dubbed Hindi version of the film netted approx. Rs. 9 crores in its 4th weekend, and its total Hindi collection now strongly stands at Rs. 81.50 crores. ## Directed by Sukumar, the "Pushpa" Hindi version has contributed 35% to the total India gross collection of the film, making it one of the biggest contributions for a dubbed version of a Pan-India film. "Pushpa - The Rise" has already become the first Indian film since "Tanhji" to cross Rs. 300 crores worldwide mark. ## Stay tuned...
