The Story Of Nawazuddin Siddiqui On His Birthday

On the Occasion of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Birthday, We are presenting his struggling story from a small village to getting into Bollywood.

Born

He was born in Budhana, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India on 19th May 1974. He is the son of a farmer and growing up, he would swim in the same river his cows would bathe in. He is the eldest of his eight siblings. He graduated with B.Sc in Chemistry from Gurukul Kangri Vishwa Vidyalaya, Haridwar.

Siddiqui lives in Mumbai with his younger brother, Shamas Nawab Siddiqui who is a director. Nawazuddin is married to Anjali and they have a daughter, Shora, and a son who was born on the actor's 41st birthday.

From Other Works To Acting

He worked as a chemist before realizing he did not want to continue being one. He then moved to Delhi to study drama at the National School of Drama. To make ends meet, he also worked as a watchman in a building.

He moved to Mumbai in the mid-‘90s and struggled to get roles as an extra for even Rs. 1,000. The only break that came his way was the small blink-and-you-miss role in “Sarfarosh”. That made him slightly more famous as an extra but got him no substantial roles.

In one of his interview, he said, "After graduating from National School of Drama, I started doing theatre in Delhi. But there was not much money in Hindi theatre. Maine Socha Bhukha Marna Hai Toh Mumbai Mein Jaake Marun. So, I came down to Mumbai. Coming from a small town, I didn't have big dreams".

"My biggest ambition was to find a job for myself. Time ke saath chalta gaya, hamare town mein batane wala koi tha nahin, I thought of starting out with bit roles in TV serials. Then came Ekta Kapoor and her hit formula was adopted by many. Tab ek episode ek hi din mein shoot karke channel ko bhejna padta tha. Par mere jaise actors ko lene se dedh din lag jata, kyunki zyada light lagana padta (laughs out loud)", he added.

Getting Reputation in Bollywood

The first movie he acted in was “Bindiya Maange Bandook,” a film that never saw the light of day. The first proper Bollywood role he got was as Tiger Memon’s associate in the critically acclaimed “Black Friday”, the film about the 1992 Mumbai blasts.

He continued to act only in films where his role was substantial. He did not sign up for any movies other than those where he had a meaty role that allowed him to exhibit his talents. He also appeared in the movies Jungle and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S in the years 2000 and 2003 respectively.

The year 2004 was very difficult for him. He even didn’t have any money to pay the rent. So he requested NSD senior if he could he stay with him. And he agreed for it but only if he cooks meals for him.

In the year 2009, continuously he played a role in the movies – ‘Dev D’ & ‘New York’ respectively. After that, he also worked in the Anusha Rizvi’s – Peepli Live & Prashant Bhargava's – Patang: The Kite.

He then appeared in the year 2012 in the movie – Gangs Of Wasseypur following the movie – Kahani in which he played the role of an intelligence officer. He also did a sequel of Gangs of Wasseypur. Amir Khan’s 2014 release Talaash & blockbuster movie – Kick followed.

He played a great role in Banjrangi Bhaijan as a news reporter & of ‘Dashrath Maanjhi'm in Maanjhi – The Mountain man. He also got an award for a film based in Gujarati titled – Haraamkhor.

In an interview with DNA India, he talks about the reactions from his friends and relatives upon his stardom.

He said, "It’s a sense of satisfaction because I proved all of them wrong. All of them said ‘kya hero banega (how will he become a hero)’ when I set out. When I go back now they say ‘isne toh karke dikhaya (he has done it)’. I made it possible."

Awards

He got many awards for his great performance like Special Jury Award for the movie – ‘Talaash’ in the year 2012 & Zee Cine Award for the best actor in a comic role for the movie – ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ in the year 2015.

He was also nominated for many awards like Filmfare Award for best-supporting actor for the movies – ‘Badlapur’ & ‘Mom’ in the year 2015 & 2018 respectively & Stardust award for best-supporting actor for the film – ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma Nears 100 Cr Net As Harshvardhan Rane's Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Scores Unexpected Success

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, October 27 - Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma had a good 6-day extended opening weekend at the box office. The vampire comedy has struck a chord with its targeted audiences for its connection with Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and the chemistry between the lead pair. With positive word of mouth, the film has held its ground well despite competition during the Diwali festive period. The film's extended first weekend collections have been good, recording around 91 crores net in six days and 125 crores gross worldwide. The film is expected to enter the 100 crores club in 8 days. While the weekend trajectory was good, it wasn't exceptional, making the upcoming weekdays crucial in determining its final box office outcome. The lack of new Bollywood releases this coming week is expected to help Thamma have a sustained run. Meanwhile, Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa's romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has turned out to be a dark horse at the box office. Despite limited buzz and underwhelming critics' reviews, the film has managed to find its audience, especially among young people and in smaller towns. The film has already crossed 50 crores worldwide within six days, including 49 crores gross (41.50 crores net) from India, signalling a strong acceptance. The film has become Rane's biggest grosser with today's collection. Together, Thamma and Deewaniyat have infused fresh energy into the box office, proving that content variety and genuine audience engagement still hold the key to success. While Thamma is now aiming for a steady run, Deewaniyat has earned its spot as one of the year's most surprising success stories. Stay tuned...

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma Hits Double Digits Again On Friday: Heads For 100 Crore Net In The Extended Weekend

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, October 25 - Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma continues its strong run at the box office with another double-digit figure on its first Friday. After a solid opening on Tuesday, the film has maintained its grip during this festive period. According to early estimates, Thamma collected over 10 crore net on Friday, taking its 4-day total to around 66 crore. The numbers are impressive considering the post-Diwali period and the genre's experimental nature. The film's performance across metros like Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune remains good, while Tier-2 cities are showing steady hold. Thamma is expected to score a good jump on Saturday and Sunday as it will look to reach 100 crores net in its 6-day extended weekend. The movie, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Maddock Films, further solidifies the studios' dominance in the horror-comedy space after Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. At the worldwide box office, Thamma will be crossing the 100 crores mark today. If the film continues this trajectory, it could emerge as one of the biggest hits of Ayushmann's career and another blockbuster addition to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Stay tuned...

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, October 22 — Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's vampire horror comedy Thamma is maintaining a good grip at the box office after a solid opening day. The Maddock Films release has managed to hold well on its second day, continuing to benefit from the Diwali festive period. According to early estimates, Thamma collected 17.50-18.50 crores net on Day 2, showing a decent hold after its impressive 24 crores net opening. This takes the film's two-day total to over 41 crores net, which is a good start for the entertainer and marks one of the best openings for Ayushmann Khurrana. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma continues to enjoy the Diwali post-holiday advantage, with strong family turnout across major circuits and good word-of-mouth driving footfalls. The drop from Day 1 is reasonable, especially given that the second day is a working day in several parts of the country. With holiday fever still in the air, the 5th film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) is expected to maintain its momentum through the extended festive week. The film has been praised for its quirky humour, visual style, and unique blend of horror and comedy — a formula that continues to resonate well with audiences. Stay tuned...

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, October 17: The advance bookings for Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's big Diwali release Thamma have opened to an encouraging response, signalling a good start for the film at the domestic box office. Within hours of opening, Thamma managed to sell over 6,000 tickets across leading national chains such as PVR and INOX, while overall ticket sales have crossed the 12K mark for the opening day. Trade analysts note that this is an impressive start, especially considering that Thamma releases right after the Diwali festivities—traditionally a tricky window for advance sales. The early traction is being attributed to the fan following of Ayushmann and Rashmika, the appeal of the horror-comedy genre, and the growing interest in Maddock Films' expanding Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). If the momentum continues, the film may score one of the biggest pre-sales of the year for a Bollywood title. Industry is hopeful that Thamma will bring a big crowd to theatres this coming Diwali weekend. The early trend suggests an opening of 20+ crores net, which can go to 30 crores, depending on how the sales proceed. With the film releasing on a Tuesday (October 21), it is expected to enjoy an extended five-day festive window, which could significantly enhance its cumulative box office collections. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Maddock Films, Thamma is certified U/A by the CBFC with a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The film features Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in key roles, blending humour, horror, and emotion in a uniquely Indian storytelling style. Stay tuned...
