Bengaluru, September 9 - Superstar Yash's highly anticipated gangster action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious pan-India films in recent times, with a huge ensemble, dominated by female leads, coming on board. Alongside Yash's towering presence, the film is powered by a dynamic ensemble of celebrated performers from across industries. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Kiara Advani as the female lead, who is reportedly playing Yash's love interest. Mumbai, September 8 - After facing a major setback with War 2, Hrithik Roshan is looking to bounce back, and there is no bigger project than Krrish 4 to do that. The ambitious superhero film has been in the making for a long time, but shooting keeps getting delayed for various reasons. As reported previously, things are finally heading in the right direction. Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who will be producing this mega-budgeted film with Yash Raj Films, has given clarity on one of Bollywood's most-awaited projects, which will also mark Hrithik's directorial debut. During a recent interaction with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker confirmed that the pre-production is going on in full swing, as the Hrithik Roshan-starrer will go on floors in the summer of 2026. The announcement has put an end to years of speculation surrounding the fourth instalment of the beloved superhero franchise, which last saw its release back in 2013 with Krrish 3. The current plans to start shooting Krrish 4 are slightly different from the earlier plans of starting it in early 2026, and Rakesh Roshan said that the reason for this delay is the extensive pre-production time, which is required to mount the film on the desired scale. Rakesh Roshan further revealed that the team is aiming for a 2027 theatrical release. Given the scale of the project, the makers want to ensure ample time for filming and post-production, especially since the Krrish series is known for its ambitious visual effects and larger-than-life action set pieces. Fans can expect a film that not only continues the story of India’s first mainstream superhero but also elevates the cinematic experience to a global standard. Kochi, September 8 - Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has achieved a remarkable milestone at the overseas box office. Dominic Arun's directorial is wreaking havoc in the international markets, and has topped $10 million gross collection in just 11 days. With this feat, Dulquer Salmaan's production has placed itself among the rare Malayalam films to touch such numbers internationally. The film's overseas performance is particularly significant as it has joined the elite club of Malayalam movies led by Mohanlal's Empuraan and Thudarum in the $10 million club. Before 2025, not a single Malayalam film reached $10 million overseas box office milestone, and now, the industry has three titles in the coveted club. In 11 days, it has grossed 91 crores ($10.3+ million). Superstar Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan is currently the highest-grossing Mollywood film with 124.50 crores ($13.75+ million), followed by his Thudarum with 94 crores ($10.50+ million). Industry experts attribute the movie's success to its universal appeal, a strong narrative rooted in mythological fantasy, and Kalyani's standout performance, which has received glowing reviews. The film was made on a budget of 30 crores, which is comparatively very low than the average movie of Bollywood, Kollywood, and Tollywood. Mumbai, September 8 - Warner Bros. Pictures' horror franchise that has been sending chills down spines for over a decade is back with a bang. The Conjuring: Last Rites, directed by Michael Chaves, opened to massive record-breaking numbers at the global box office, reaffirming the brand's strength among horror fans worldwide. In India, the film grossed over 61 crores ($6.9 million) during its 3-day opening weekend. This makes it by far the biggest debut for a non-Indian horror film and the second-biggest opening weekend ever for a horror film in the country. Multiplex chains in metros saw excellent occupancies, while Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities also contributed significantly to the film's strong numbers. The impressive performance indicates that the horror genre continues to have a loyal following in India, especially when backed by a trusted franchise like The Conjuring. Over the last couple of years, horror films have found success in India, and Last Rites has taken it to another level. Worldwide, The Conjuring: Last Rites delivered a staggering $194 million in its opening frame, which is a record for a horror film, beating 2017's It ($190 million). This includes a phenomenal record $84 million in North America and a record-breaking $110 million from international markets. These numbers not only underline the global appeal of the franchise but also position the film as one of the strongest openers of the year across all genres, not just horror. Chennai, September 8 - The rising Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's psychological action thriller film Madharaasi opened in the worldwide cinemas this weekend. Despite the low buzz, the film managed to make a mark at the box office with a good collection in India and overseas. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Madharaasi marks his maiden collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan and a reunion with Vidyut Jammwal. The film opened to mostly positive reviews in the home market, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and a mixed reception elsewhere, which was also reflected in its opening weekend business. Madharasi scored a hat-trick of double-digit scores in Tamil Nadu, even though the trend remained on the downward side. After opening to over 12+ crores gross, the film scored 11 crores on Saturday and around 10.50 crores on Sunday to close the opening weekend with approximately 34 crores gross in the state. Overall, Madharaasi grossed approximately 43 crores opening weekend in India, which is the second biggest for Sivakarthikeyan after Amaran, which minted big 95+ crores in its 4-day weekend in 2024. Overseas, the latest blockbuster has scored an estimated 20 crores gross, pushing its worldwide collection to around 63 crores. In comparison, Amaran had scored 140 crores worldwide. While the opening weekend collections of Madharasi are respectable, it becomes crucial for the film to hold well in the coming days to emerge as a box office hit. Despite the positive reviews, the downward trend in the home state could be a concern for the film, and it needs to be seen how it fares during the weekdays. Mumbai, September 8 - National award-winning filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's Files trilogy is heading towards a disappointing conclusion after the final chapter, The Bengal Files, falling short of expectations at the box office despite carrying similarities with The Kashmir Files, which became a mega blockbuster success. Based on the tragic true events surrounding Direct Action Day, also known as the Great Calcutta Killings on August 16, 1946, The Bengal Files has had an underwhelming opening weekend collection at the domestic box office. Despite positive reviews, the movie couldn't fly during the weekend after a decent opening of 1.75 crores net. TBF scored just around one-fourth (25%) of TKF with approximately 6.75 crores net (8 crores gross) in its 3-day opening weekend domestically. In comparison, the previous film in the Files series, The Kashmir Files, had an excellent domestic weekend with around 32 crores gross (27+ crores net). The sharp decline between the two films highlights the massive gap in audience interest towards the subject. While The Kashmir Files benefitted from extraordinary word-of-mouth, along with the awareness of the historical events, and became a cultural phenomenon, The Bengal Files is struggling to gain momentum, as trade believes that not many people are aware of the events shown in the film. One of the other major reasons for TBF's underwhelming performance is that the hasn't been allowed to release in its best-suited market, West Bengal, under political pressure from the ruling state party. Chennai, September 7 - The stars have officially aligned for what can be called one of the biggest collaborations in Indian cinema as legendary Kamal Haasan has confirmed that he will be reuniting with superstar Rajinikanth for a multistarrer, likely to be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It was recently reported that Lokesh has narrated a script to both the Indian cinema legends, and now, the official confirmation straight from the horse's mouth has already sent waves of excitement across the film industry and among fans who have been waiting for decades to see the two legends share the screen again. Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, who started their careers together in the 1970s, last acted in full-fledged roles opposite each other over four decades ago. Mumbai, September 7 – Tiger Shroff returned to the big screen with the latest action entertainer Baaghi 4, the fourth instalment in the decade-long franchise. Directed by A Harsha, the film opened to mixed reviews at the box office. The initial collections are on the expected line, given the reviews, but not up to the level of the franchise's standards. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Baaghi 4 is reportedly made on a budget of 80 crores, including production and marketing expenses. Despite the mixed collection, the film has already turned out to be a safe venture for its makers, thanks to solid non-theatrical deals across digital, satellite, and music rights. According to the report by Pinkvilla, the producers struck lucrative off-screen deals, fetching a total of 92 crore from non-theatrical revenue. This has resulted in a table profit of 12 crore, ensuring that the film's cost was recovered before theatrical revenue even came into play. It is said that the streaming rights of the A-rated action thriller were acquired by Prime Video for a big 50 crore, while Zee Cinema bagged the satellite (television) rights for 25 crore. Additionally, T-Series secured the music rights for 17 crore. Together, these strong deals helped Baaghi 4 become profitable on paper, despite the challenges at the ticket windows. At the box office, the Tiger Shroff-starrer opened decently with an estimated 12 crore net on day, but collections dipped on day 2, bringing in about 9.25 crore, for a two-day total of nearly 21.25 crore net, as the opening weekend is headed for around 30 crores net. The film's theatrical run will determine its overall standing with audiences, but for producers, the project is already in the green. The brand value of the Baaghi franchise has played a key role in helping the makers to fetch solid non-theatrical deals for the latest instalment. The franchise's mass appeal, blended with action, romance, and emotions, has struck a chord with the audience in all age groups. Mumbai, September 7 - One of the biggest Indian blockbusters of the year, Yash Raj Films' romantic drama Saiyaara, starring debutants Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, has completed 50 days of its theatrical run, which has been no less than glorious. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara's box office run is almost over, but not before setting benchmarks for Indian love stories.
