Gevi – Movie Review: When Realism Meets Raw Emotion

BY SACNILK TEAM

At the heart of the film is the tender relationship between Mandharai and Malaiyan (played brilliantly by Sheela Rajkumar and Aadhavan), a couple awaiting the birth of their child. While the film follows several storylines, it’s their journey that forms the emotional core. ##In one beautifully written moment, the couple is caught in the rain. The pregnant Mandharai says the raindrops feel like their unborn child’s tiny kisses. Malaiyan chuckles and says it feels more like the baby is urinating. It's a brief, funny exchange — but when the film snaps back to the present, where their lives are hanging by a thread, you realise what’s truly at stake: not just survival, but the little dreams, hopes, and joys they’re fighting to protect. Moments like these pull us deep into Gevi’s world. ##Mandharai goes into labour, but with no hospital or proper transport available in their remote village, she must be carried downhill in a makeshift cradle. Her pain exposes a deeper truth: the quiet cruelty of being neglected by a system that offers no safety net. Her suffering reflects the kind of oppression born from inaction and apathy — where the absence of help becomes its own form of violence, especially against women in crisis. ##Meanwhile, Malaiyan’s torture at the hands of the police highlights a different kind of brutality — one that comes from force and control. He dares to speak up against injustice, and the system answers with beatings and threats. His pain stands for every voice crushed for demanding dignity. Together, their struggles show how oppression works in two ways: by failing to help, and by punishing those who ask for help. ##Though the film includes the familiar “good cop, bad cop” trope, it feels unnecessary. The presence of kind-hearted characters elsewhere in the story already proves that the system has good people — but when one “good apple” is placed in a rotten bunch, it risks weakening the film’s stronger message. ##The recurring use of oppari (folk lament) adds to the emotional weight, but also reflects the contradictions within the community and their fight for justice. At times, the film quietly suggests that the people may share some responsibility for their condition, but Tamil Dhayalan handles this with care, never losing sight of their dignity. ##Despite a few flaws, it’s the performances that carry Gevi forward. Sheela Rajkumar and Aadhavan are magnetic, and Vivek Mohan as Mandharai’s brother adds strength to the story. There’s a rawness in every frame that makes the film feel real — not like it’s trying to entertain the privileged, but like it’s telling a truth that needs to be heard. ##In the end, Gevi doesn’t just show a couple’s fight for life — it shows an entire community’s battle for basic rights, love, and hope.

Box Office: 'Saiyaara' Set To Enter 100 Crore Net Club In 4 Days After Phenomenal Hold On First Monday

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, July 21 - Yash Raj Films' romantic drama Saiyaara is breaching the 100 crores net mark sooner than expected after phenomenal hold on its first working day, Monday. The Mohit Suri directorial starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda is looking unstoppable after the historic first weekend. ## Saiyaara stays strong on first Monday ## After the front-loaded first weekend, there were doubts that Saiyaara might see a drop, but that is not the case here. The trend so far suggests that the film is coming very close to the opening day figures (21.25 crores net) as it eyes at least 20 crores collection today. ## At the moment, Saiyaara is looking at a negligible drop of around 5% today from Friday, and there might be no drop if the night shows remain solid. This is truly a historic box office trend, and with newcomers headlining it, it looks unimaginable. ## Saiyaara hits 100 crores net in 4 days ## After scoring 83.25 crores net collection in the first weekend (3 days), the romantic blockbuster will hit the 100 crores net mark in flat 4 days. The film is looking to be around 103+ crores net at the end of the day. It is said that YRF will go ahead with discounted prices on Tuesday, which means the first week is heading for 150 crores net. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Brad Pitt's 'F1 Movie' Crosses 100 Crore Gross In India; Races Past $450 Million Worldwide

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, July 21 - Hollywood star Brad Pitt has pulled off a cinematic masterstroke with his racing sports drama F1 Movie, which has crossed the 100 crore gross milestone at the Indian box office. Despite fierce competition from Yash Raj Films' Saiyaara, which has taken the box office by storm, F1 remained solid in its fourth week so far. ## A Surprising Success Story ## Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 released with moderate buzz but has far exceeded expectations with its remarkable box office run. Before Saiyaara, the film was already facing intense competition from Hollywood blockbusters like Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman, as well as major Indian titles. Yet, F1 managed to do the unthinkable and is now racing into the 100 crore gross club. ## F1 enters 100 crores gross club in 26 days ## After the fourth weekend (24 days) at the Indian box office, F1 scored approximately 98 crore gross ($11.4 million). By its 26th day — the fourth Tuesday — the film officially joined the elite 100 crore gross club, becoming only the third Hollywood film in 2025 to do so, after Jurassic World Rebirth and Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning. ## Notably, F1 is one of the rare Hollywood titles to earn (so far) nearly 15 times its opening day collection, making it one of the most impressive box office success stories of the year in the country. ## F1 surpassed $450 million at the worldwide box office ## The Warner Bros. production has been a hit globally, racing past $450 million in worldwide grosses after its fourth weekend. The domestic (North American) gross stands at $153.6 million, while the overseas earnings have reached $307.2 million — taking the global total to a stunning $460.8 million.## China is the biggest international market for F1 with $45.5 million, followed by the United Kingdom with $24.6 million, France with $20.8 million, Mexico with $17.4 million, and Australia with $15.2 million. India too was among the top 10 overseas markets for the film, taking 8th spot on the list. ## About F1 Movie ## The film stars Brad Pitt as a racing driver who returns to Formula One (F1) after a 30-year absence to save his former teammate's underdog team, APXGP, from collapse. Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem star in supporting roles. ## Stay tuned...

Marvel Studios 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Domestic (North America) Opening Weekend Box Office Forecast Revealed

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Los Angeles, July 21 - The Hollywood film industry is currently riding high on back-to-back box office successes, with recent titles like F1, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Superman drawing in huge crowds. The upcoming lineup through the year is looking promising, with several titles expected to score big numbers. ## The spotlight shifts to Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated release, Fantastic Four: First Steps — the second reboot of the iconic superhero franchise, which is generating solid buzz ahead of its theatrical debut. According to a report by Deadline, pre-sales for First Steps are already tracking ahead of Marvel's own Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World, setting the stage for a promising domestic opening. ## Disney is reportedly projecting a conservative $100 million to $110 million debut weekend in North America. However, independent box office trackers are far more optimistic, estimating an opening between $125 million and $145 million. The higher projection, however, might not (or may be) turn into reality as pre-sales are reportedly around 20% behind DC's Superman, which recently debuted with $123 million. But if the reviews are positive, the higher opening is very much expected. ## The Fantastic Four franchise has historically seen lukewarm openings. The last instalment, 2015's Fantastic Four, opened with just $25 million domestically, and the highest opener in the series remains 2007's Rise of the Silver Surfer, which collected $58 million, only marginally higher than the $56 million earned by the 2005 original. ## Still, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's brand power and a fresh creative direction, Fantastic Four: First Steps is poised to breathe new life into the franchise and is set to deliver its biggest opening yet. As Hollywood continues to stack up major wins this summer, all eyes are now on Marvel’s First Family to keep the momentum going. ## About The Fantastic Four: First Steps ## Directed by Matt Shakman, The First Steps is intended to be the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the titular team, alongside Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson. In the film, the Fantastic Four must protect their 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world from the planet-devouring cosmic being Galactus (Ineson). ## The movie is scheduled to release on July 25. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Ahaan Pandey, Aneet Padda-starrer 'Saiyaara' Scores 100+ Crore Opening Weekend Worldwide

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, July 21 - Yash Raj Films' romantic drama Saiyaara, featuring debutants Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, has taken the box office by storm with a record-breaking opening weekend. The Mohit Suri directorial has grossed a staggering 115 crores worldwide in just three days, including an excellent 99.75 crores from India alone. ## This phenomenal start makes Saiyaara the biggest-ever worldwide opening for a film led by newcomers, and also for a Bollywood romantic drama film, beating Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh (93+ crores worldwide). In India, the movie benefited from strong word-of-mouth, youthful appeal, and a robust turnout across multiplex and smaller centres. It also did well internationally, grossing around 15 crores in the opening weekend. ## The chemistry between the lead pair, a soulful soundtrack, and Mohit Suri's trademark emotional storytelling appears to have struck a chord with audiences, particularly the younger demographic. With positive audience reception and minimal competition at the box office, Saiyaara is poised for a strong run in the coming weeks. All eyes are now on how far this debut-driven romantic drama can go. Can it hit the 300 crore mark in the long run? The coming days will tell. ## About Saiyaara ## The film stars Ahaan Panday as Krish Kapoor, a rising musician whose raw talent and ambition set him on a collision course with the realities of the modern music industry. When Krish is introduced to Vaani (Aneet Padda), a gifted and principled songwriter, sparks fly – both creatively and personally. As their partnership deepens, so does their connection, blossoming into a romance that is as passionate as it is complicated. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Ahaan Pandey, Aneet Padda's 'Saiyaara' First Sunday (Day 3) Early Estimates

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, July 20 - Yash Raj Films' Saiyaara goes on the overdrive on Sunday and once again surpassed expectations despite the overloaded first two days at the domestic box office. The film is clocking an average occupancy of over 70% with some areas even showing near 100% today. ## There was a capacity issue in the first two days, as the movie had a smaller release as compared to some of the top stars' movies this year, but that couldn't stop it from scoring another +40% jump on Sunday as it comfortably breached 30 crores net mark today. ## According to early estimates, the third-day collection of the movie is expected to be in the range of 35-37 crores net, with the opening weekend finishing at 81+ crores net. This is the biggest first weekend ever for an Indian romantic film, and with the debutante, the weekend is nothing short of sensational. ## There has been a huge demand for the tickets during the first weekend, where a capacity issue arose despite more and more shows getting added. The advances for Monday look super solid, and if the spot booking response is equally solid, then the movie may breach the 15 crores mark on the first working day. However, it is better to wait how things proceed. ## Apart from the holdovers, there is not much challenge for Saiyaara till the end of this month. The trend so far has been super encouraging with youth, masses and family audience coming to theatres, and this ensured that the film will have a strong run during the weekdays. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Ahaan Pandey, Aneet Padda's 'Saiyaara' Second Day (Day 2) Early Estimates

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, July 19 - Yash Raj Film's Saiyaara is a box office juggernaut. After an excellent first day collection of 21 crore net, the romantic drama is witnessing a jump of around 20% which is huge as the film is facing capacity issues in many areas. ## According to early estimates, Mohit Suri's directorial is expected to score 23-25 crores net collection on its second day, taking the total to around 45 crores net in 2 days. The collection could have been much higher had this been a bigger release. ## The jump in collection on the second day is, anyway, a big positive news for the film, as the first day itself faced capacity issues. More shows are being added on demand, and that might also lead to another jump on Sunday, but it is unlikely to be big. ## Starring Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara is doing very well in most areas, especially in metro cities. It is bringing in the youth and mass audience in large numbers. The first weekend is expected to be in the range of 70-75 crores net, which is a dream start for a newcomer film. ## The movie most likely holds up very well during the weekdays, starting from Monday. The film has faced a capacity issue over the weekend, so there will be a large audience which will turn up during the weekdays. Saiyaara is a certified blockbuster, but how far it can go remains to be seen. ## Stay tuned...

Ajay Devgn's 'Son of Sardaar 2' Advance Booking Update: A Tough Challenge Awaits

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, July 19 - The Bollywood film industry is rejoicing with the unexpected blockbuster success of Yash Raj Films' musical romantic drama Saiyaara, featuring two debutantes, Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda. Mohit Suri's directorial has taken the box office by storm and is on its way to becoming a big blockbuster. ## Well, the party could be doubled for the industry with Ajay Devgn-fronted much-awaited romantic action comedy Son of Sardaar 2 hitting the big screen next week. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film is carrying a positive buzz within the trade circle. ## Son of Sardaar 2 advance booking update ## With less than a week left for the film to release on August 1, the makers are putting in efforts to intensify the promotion. The second trailer of the film will be launched on July 20, and according to the reports, it will be followed by the booking, which is now expected to open on July 28, on Monday. The booking was supposed to open on July 22, but the makers have pushed back the release of the film by a week, to August 1, due to Saiyaar's strong performance. ## In the post-pandemic world, the positive movement in booking has become a must, especially for big-budget films. In the case of SOS2, the makers are hopeful that the franchise value and the buzz for the movie will reflect in the pre-sales for a good start at the box office. ## Will Saiyaara Impact Son of Sardaar 2? ## Son of Sardaar 2 looked like a safe bet at the box office a week ago, but things might have changed now. While it is still likely to take a good opening, it might not be as big as earlier, and the reason is Saiyaara. The strong performance of this YRF production must have raised the eyebrows of the SOS2 makers, as their film is going to be challenged by this young love story. ## It is like a Deja vu for the SOS franchise, which has a history of clashing with a YRF film. Back in 2012, the first Son of Sardaar film was up against YRF's Jab Tak Hai Jaan, starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan. However, despite the mighty clash, SOS managed to do good business at the box office worldwide, and the makers will be hoping that things will be the same this time around as well. ## About Son of Sardaar 2 ## Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced by Devgn Films and Jio Studios, SOS2 stars Ajay Devgn alongside Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Deepak Dobriyal, Chunky Panday, Neeru Bajwa, Kubbra Sait, Vindu Dara Singh, and Mukul Dev, among others. ## Stay tuned... Malvi Malhotra: You can never guess the climax of Jenma Natchathiram

BY SACNILK TEAM

Chennai, July 19 - All it took was Oru Nodi for Malvi Malhotra to say yes to Jenma Natchathiram. Quite literally. She saw the 2023 Taman Aakshan-starrer and was impressed, and it was on the same day she signed Jenma Natchathiram, headlined by him. ## Having debuted in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Punjabi projects, the horror-thriller marks Malvi's Tamil debut. "I couldn't have asked for a better role as I am there throughout the film's runtime. The story unfolds through my eyes. I play Riya, a sweet and simple girl who has ghosts scaring her in her dreams. Whether her dreams become a haunting reality or not forms the crux of the film. ## Elaborating on the film and its script, Malvi underlines, "You can never guess the film's climax. That's how intricate and layered the script is. It is gripping, and every character has an important role in it. I have not worked on this genre before. ##
