Los Angeles, July 14 - James Gunn scores another win with his comic book movie as Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios' Superman was the number one movie at the worldwide box office of the weekend (July 11-13) after the mighty opening of over $200 million. ## The first film in Peter Safran and James Gunn-headed DC Studios Phase I - "Gods and Monsters", Superman topped studios' conservative projections by a good margin at the domestic (North America) box office, but fell slightly below the projection overseas. ## Superman's Domestic, Overseas, and Worldwide Opening Weekend Collection ## The superhero movie, fronted by David Corenswet, stars as Man of Steel aka Superman, had a very good opening weekend domestically, grossing a solid $125 million over 3-day weekend, including Thursday previews. This makes it the biggest solo Superman opener, beating Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" (2013), which opened to $116.6 million. ## Among the DC comics' movies, Superman had the 6th biggest start domestically, between "Suicide Squad" ($133.6 million) and "Man of Steel" ($116.6 million). Superman had the third biggest North American opening of 2025, behind "Lilo & Stitch" ($146 million) and "A Minecraft Movie" ($162 million). ## While Superman had a solid start domestically, the movie was slightly softer than expected at the international box office with $95 million 5-day opening weekend from 78 markets, bringing its global tally to $220 million. It is ahead of "Man of Steel" ($200 million) and behind "Wonder Woman" ($228 million). ## Superman's Biggest Overseas/International Market, and Opening Weekend Collection In India ## The United Kingdom was the strongest international market for the film with $9.8 million opening weekend, followed by Mexico ($8.8 million) and China ($6.6 million). India was also among the top 10 contributors, with the gross collection of 31+ crores ($3.70 million) opening weekend. It was also the number 1 movie at the Indian box office this weekend. ## Superman had the 4th biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood title of 2025 in India, behind "Jurassic World Rebirth", "F1", and "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning". The word of mouth for the movie is on the positive side, which should help it to have a decent run, despite the competition with fellow Hollywood titles and Indian films. ## About James Gunn's Superman Movie ## Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) produced by DC Studios and the second reboot of the Superman film series. Mumbai, July 14 - The Scarlett Johansson-led sci-fi action adventure Jurassic World Rebirth has hit half a billion dollars at the worldwide box office through the second weekend, continuing the franchise's rich box office legacy despite the mixed reviews and word of mouth. ## Directed by Gareth Edwards, the fourth Jurassic World film was impacted by the mist WOM and the new weekend topper, James Gunn's Superman, at the domestic and overseas box office, but still managed to score over $100 million worldwide in its second weekend. ## Jurassic World Rebirth's Domestic, Overseas, and Worldwide Collection After Second Weekend ## At the domestic (North America) box office, the film scored $40 million in the second weekend, pushing the total collection to around $232 million after 12 days. It is projected to finish its domestic run with around $325 million, which will make it the fourth biggest-grossing title in the Jurassic World franchise and the fifth in the Jurassic franchise. ## Worldwide, Rebirth has topped $500 million, after grossing around $108 million in the second weekend. The film's total global cume stands at around $529 million, including $297 million at the overseas box office. China is the biggest international market for the movie with $62.7 million, followed by the UK ($26.4 million) and Mexico ($22.8 million). The movie is projected to finish its global run with around $800 million, as the lowest in the Jurassic World series. ## Jurassic World Rebirth's India Box Office Collection; Nears 100 Crores Gross Mark ## The movie has emerged as a hit at the Indian box office, after grossing approximately 89 crores ($10.3 million) in 10 days, including around 20 crores in the second weekend. India was the 9th biggest international market for the movie through the second weekend. ## Rebirth is nearing the 100 crores gross mark, and it should be able to cross this milestone despite the increasing competition in the coming days. Chennai, July 12 - Renowned filmmaker S. Shankar, once hailed as a visionary of Indian cinema, is now struggling with one of the toughest phases of his career. Following the underwhelming box office performance of his much-hyped films Indian 2 and Game Changer, the director's credibility has taken a hit, with many critics and audiences branding his creative vision as "outdated." ## While there are so many challenges in front of him, he is refusing to back down and is looking to bounce back with what he calls his "dream project" — a cinematic adaptation of Veerayuga Nayagan Velpari, the bestselling historical epic novel by S. Venkatesan. ## Speaking at a grand event in Chennai celebrating the novel's success — having sold over 100,000 copies — Shankar confirmed that Velpari will be his next film. He described the project as a monumental opportunity to take Indian cinema to a global level, hinting at its massive scale and technological ambition, just like Game of Thrones and Avatar. ## "Velpari has everything — history, emotion, war, drama, and scope for cutting-edge technology. Chennai, July 11 - National-award-winning actor Dhanush has kicked off his next film, tentatively called D54, with director Vignesh Raja, who is best known for his work in the superhit movie "Por Thozhil" (2023). ## The film, produced by Vels Film International, was announced on Thursday (July 10) with a traditional pooja ceremony attended by the main team, including Dhanush, producer Dr. Ishari K. It is among the 65 films to achieve the milestone of 150 crore net in the Hindi language. ## The RS Prasanna directorial scored approximately 19 crores net in the third week, dropping around 60% from the second week. The drop in collection in the third week was higher than it was in the second week (47.69%), which shows the legs are slowing down as competition is increasing. ## What is the total India net collection of Sitaare Zameen Par? ## After three weeks of running, the total India net collection of the film is around 154 crores. The figure includes Tuesday night's Amazon Prime members screenings cash of $2.8 million, plus monies from showtimes, which began today at 2 PM on Thursday. ## Warner Bros. projected $100+ million while tracking and exhibition were spotting around $130 million 3-day opening weekend domestically.
