Los Angeles, August 27 - superstar Pawan Kalyan's gangster action thriller They Call Him OG, has begun its rampage in the advance booking as it is generating explosive buzz in the US ahead of its September 25, 2025, release. Featuring Kalyan as a vengeful mob boss alongside Emraan Hashmi and Priyanka Arulmohan, the Telugu-language film has its premiere on September 24. Directed by Sujeeth, the OG pre-sales opened on August 27 for the North America premiere, by distributor Prathyangira Cinemas, and the initial response is explosive. It has seen record-breaking advance ticket sales, with four shows at Cinemark Dallas selling out in minutes. Seeing the response, 35 premiere shows have already been scheduled at one of the top-grossing Cinemark theatres in Dallas. Trade analyst reports that only a few pan-India movies were allocated this many shows in Cinemark. Distributors expanded to Canada, pricing tickets at $25-$30, as fans fuel a potential blockbuster rivalling hits like Kalki 2898 AD, highlighting Telugu cinema's growing global appeal. Going by the initial trend, OG will be eyeing one of the biggest premiere days in North America. Trade anticipates that the film might cross $2 million premiere gross, which will be the highest for a Pawan Kalyan-starrer. Currently, there are six Telugu movies (Baahubali 2, Salaar, Devara, Pushpa 2, RRR, Kalki 2898 AD) which grossed over $2 million on their premiere in NA, and OG will be hoping to join. OG stars Pawan Kalyan in the title role of Ojas Gambheera alongside Emraan Hashmi as Omi Bhau (in his Telugu film debut), and Priyanka Mohan as the female lead. The film revolves around a ruthless don named Ojas Gambheera "OG" who returns to Mumbai following his ten-year disappearance, to reclaim his empire and exact vengeance on the current tyrant, Omi Bhau. Mumbai, August 26 - Yash Raj Films' ambitious Spy Universe is heading into the days of uncertainty after the underwhelming results of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted War 2, along with Salman Khan's Tiger 3 at the box office. Particularly, the War 2's box office performance seems to have put the curtains on what could have been the future of Spy Universe. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 was easily the most ambitious and the biggest film in the Spy Universe. It marked the first major collaboration between North and South with the inclusion of Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut. The film was expected to write new chapters in box office history, but what happened with it has shocked everyone, as it is set to finish below 400 crores worldwide. Reportedly, YRF had planned a standalone War 2 spin-off film with Jr. NTR's character Vikram in the Spy Universe. According to the latest report by Bollywood Hungama, the studio has decided to drop plans of making a standalone film with Jr. NTR following the disappointing box office run of War 2. The studio was already reportedly developing a standalone film for Agent Vikram, but the failure of War 2 has halted the entire process. It is said that producer Aditya Chopra has decided not to move forward with the project. As reported earlier, the filmmaker is now redesigning the Spy Universe to give it a fresh touch. Currently, only Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh's Alpha is scheduled in the Spy Universe, on December 25 this year. Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan 2, which is supposed to be the next film after Alpha, is also said to be postponed indefinitely, while other films, including Tiger vs Pathaan, are not moving forward at the moment. War 2 is the sixth film in the Spy Universe, and it also stars Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor in the key roles. It is the costliest Spy Universe film yet, with a budget of over 400 crores, but has disappointed with its box office performance so far, grossing just around 344 crores worldwide in 12 days. The Tamil superstar, who will retire from movies after the upcoming political action thriller Jana Nayagan, is set to join politics with the next year's assembly election in Tamil Nadu. The actor-turned-politician recently held a massive rally in Madurai, which reportedly witnessed a record attendance of over 14 million people. During the rally, Vijay took a video selfie with fans, and it created an all-time viewership record on Instagram for a South Indian celebrity. Posted as a reel on Vijay's Insta account, it has generated 107 million views with over 11 million likes and 250K comments. The video features Vijay taking a selfie with a sea of fans during Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's (TVK) second state-level conference in Madurai on August 21. Vijay has 14 million followers, and over 11 million likes on his post, which speaks volumes about his craze. The actor continues to be the biggest crowd puller of Tamil cinema in recent times. Chennai, August 26 - Tamil cinema has looked like a completely different beast at the box office in the post-pandemic era, where the industry delivered massive results in India and overseas. While there is still one missing piece (1000 crores grosser), the industry has witnessed three 500+ crore grossers, a milestone, which was achieved only once before the health crisis. Amid the rising popularity of Tamil cinema, two names continue to dominate the industry — Thalapathy Vijay and Superstar Rajinikanth, who are miles ahead of the rest of the others. Between 2021 and 2025, the two megastars have collectively grossed nearly 3,400 crore worldwide, proving their unmatched star power and consistent ability to draw audiences to theatres. Thalapathy Vijay leads the chart with an estimated 1,800 crore gross from his five films released after the pandemic. Starting with Master, with blockbusters like Beast, Varisu, Leo, and The GOAT, Vijay has delivered two 300+ crore grossers (Leo and The GOAT), with Varisu missed the milestone by a couple of crores, while Master and Beast finished over 200 crores globally, strengthening his position as the number one star of Tamil cinema in terms of box office pull. Vijay's ability to cater to both mass and family audiences has ensured strong openings and sustained runs globally. Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, remains his biggest grosser with 606 crores worldwide. The actor has one more film, Jana Nayagan, on Pongal 2026, before he hangs up his boots to join politics full-time. With his decision of not doing films anymore, the industry will be up without its biggest crowd-puller, someone who was the only challenge to superstar Rajinikanth. The 75-year-old Rajinikanth is not far behind Vijay in terms of delivering massive box office results. The veteran actor's films (including Lal Salaam) have amassed around 1600 crore worldwide during the same period. Movies like Annaatthe, Jailer, Vettaiyan, and his latest gangster action drama Coolie have reaffirmed Rajinikanth's status as the ultimate crowd-puller. His films continue to shatter records with massive openings, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and also enjoy remarkable runs in overseas markets. In the post-COVID period, Rajinikanth has delivered two record 500+ crores grossers (Jailer and Coolie), while Vettaiyan finished around 250 crores, and Annaatthe missed the double century mark by around 28 crores gross. Jailer (605 crores) remains the biggest grosser of the superstar during the period. Going ahead, Thalaivaar has a potential record-breaking blockbuster in the pipeline, including Jailer 2, and a multistarrer film with Lokesh Kanagaraj. The numbers underline how Tamil cinema has become a driving force in Indian box office collections post-COVID, with both Vijay and Rajinikanth proving their supremacy. Rajinikanth will most probably overtake Vijay with the kind of films he has, especially with Vijay retiring from films after Jana Nayagan. Mumbai, August 26 - Rising Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan is gearing up to explore new territories with his next slate of films. The actor, who has made a mark with romantic comedy dramas, will venture into the fantasy zone and action thriller genre for the first time with a few of his upcoming films. The Luka Chuppi star is currently shooting for director Anurag Basu's untitled love story, which is expected to release in December this year. He also has director Sameer Vidhwans's romantic comedy Tu Mera Main Tera Main Tera Tu Mera, which debuts in cinemas in February 2026. After these romance-filled blockbusters, Kartik will be stepping into the fantasy world for the first time with Fukrey director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's Naagzilla, in which he will play the role of a Snake-Man, and he will be fighting the snakes in the movie. The film's shoot begins once he is done with his two romantic films. Recently, it was revealed that the actor would team with the Chak De India director Shimit Amin for Captain India. Interestingly, a film with the same title was announced in 2021 with director Hansal Mehta and Kartik, but it didn't materialise back then. It is said to be the same script, written by written and produced by Harman Baweja. Kartik will play the role of an Air Force pilot in Captain India, which is based on true events. It will go on the floors in the first half of 2026 and will be shot in India and Morocco. The team reportedly has already completed the recce in Morocco. It will start after Naagzilla, which hits the big screen on August 14, 2026. Chennai, August 25 - Superstar Rajinikanth's latest release Coolie has stormed past the 300 crore mark in India within just 11 days of release, becoming only the 5th Tamil movie of all-time to achieve the feat. It has joined the elite 300 crores club, which also features 2.0, Leo, Jailer, and Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial opened to massive hype and lived up to the expectations, setting the cash registers ringing right through the opening weekend. But after that, the movie went off track, failing to build on the big opening weekend collection. Crossing 300 crore in just 11 days places Coolie among the fastest Tamil films to achieve the landmark. By doing this, it has crossed the lifetime total of Thalapathy Vijay's The GOAT, which grossed approximately 296 crores domestically last year. With Coolie joining the 300 crore domestic club, Rajinikanth now shares the stage with himself - Jailer (408.50 crores), and 2.0 (519 crores)**, Vijay's Leo (402 crores), and director Mani Ratnam's multistarrer Ponniyin Selvan - 1 (313 crores). Director Shankar's sci-fi actioner 2 Point 0 continues to remain the biggest domestic Tamil grosser with around 520 crores. Mumbai, August 25 - Vicky Kaushal's ambitious epic action drama Mahavatar is no longer releasing on Christmas 2026, as the makers have reportedly postponed it to 2027 amid the shooting delay. The lucrative festive holiday period is now vacant for other films to occupy. According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, Mahavatar shoot has been delayed to next year amid Kaushal's scheduling conflict. To be directed by Amar Kaushik, the film was originally planned to start rolling by the end of 2025, which is reportedly not happening as the actor's Love and War with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is taking longer than expected to wrap. Apart from scheduling conflict with Love and War, Vicky Kaushal will also have to undergo months of intensive physical training to achieve the muscular physique necessary for his role in Mahavatar, which is based on Lord Parashurama. The report says that the makers are now eyeing to take the film on floors by April 2026. Produced by Maddock Films, Mahavatar is expected to be shot over a period of 6 months, followed by lengthy post-production work due to its heavy reliance on VFX. While the studio has not locked a new release date yet, the report says it might hit the big screen on Independence Day weekend 2027. If that happens, then the studio's Stree 3, which is currently slated for the same weekend, will be delayed. Mahavatar is the most ambitious production of Maddock Films yet, and the studio is leaving no stone unturned to make a visual spectacle on the big screens. It is said that Nizam's rights are sold at over 55 crores, while Andhra's are 80 crores, and Ceeded is 22 crores. As said, OG will have a huge task in hand, as it will require to gross minimum of 300 crores at the worldwide box office to achieve the break-even target. The film is produced by DVV Entertainment, which also backed SS Rajamouli's blockbuster RRR. OG stars Pawan Kalyan in the title role of Ojas Gambheera alongside Emraan Hashmi as Omi Bhau (in his Telugu film debut), and Priyanka Mohan as the female lead. The film revolves around a ruthless don named Ojas Gambheera "OG" who returns to Mumbai following his ten-year disappearance, to reclaim his empire and exact vengeance on the current tyrant, Omi Bhau.
