From Kaabil to Fighter, Hrithik Roshan's Box Office Journey In The Last Decade — A Road to War 2

Mumbai, August 14 - From the emotional depth of Kaabil to the mathematical genius of Super 30, the high-octane thrills of War, the layered storytelling of Vikram Vedha, and the groundbreaking aerial spectacle of Fighter, Hrithik Roshan's filmography over the past decade showcases a rare blend of versatility and star power. Each project has expanded his range — from intense drama to big-budget action — while strengthening his position as one of Indian cinema's most bankable and ambitious actors. With War 2 on the horizon, uniting him with director Ayan Mukerji in YRF's spy universe, the stage is set for yet another milestone in a career that continues to balance mass appeal with memorable performances. ## Kaabil (2017) ## Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by Rakesh Roshan, Kaabil is a romantic action thriller starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam, alongside Ronit Roy, Rohit Roy, and Narendra Jha. It tells the story of a visually impaired couple whose life is shattered after Supriya is assaulted; when the legal system fails them, Rohan meticulously hunts down those responsible. Hrithik prepared for the role by isolating himself for days to inhabit the character’s mindset. ## Released in early 2017, the film drew praise for Hrithik's blend of vulnerability and vengeance, with Rajesh Roshan’s music and Salim–Sulaiman’s background score amplifying the emotional intensity. Notably, on February 2, 2017, Kaabil became the first Indian film to release in Pakistan after the lifting of the ban on Indian films following the 2016 Uri attack. In a gesture of admiration, Rakesh Roshan arranged a special screening of Kaabil for the legendary actor Rajinikanth, who praised both the trailer and Hrithik’s performance. At the box office, it recorded ₹104.34 crore India net, ₹145.8 crore India gross, and ₹32.3 crore overseas, for a worldwide total of ₹178.1 crore. ## Super 30 (2019) ## Directed by Vikas Bahl and written by Sanjeev Dutta, this biographical drama stars Hrithik Roshan as mathematician Anand Kumar, alongside Mrunal Thakur, Nandish Sandhu, and Pankaj Tripathi. It was the last movie produced by Phantom Films before the company disbanded amid internal controversies. The film tells the true story of Anand Kumar’s program training 30 underprivileged students for the IIT entrance exam. ## It was filmed in Patna-inspired sets at Ramnagar Fort and at Banaras Hindu University, the first Hindi film to shoot there. Over 15,000 young actors were auditioned to portray the students. Just three days after its release, Super 30 was declared tax-free in Bihar, a gesture aimed at promoting its educational message. Subsequently, a record eight Indian states granted tax-free status—an exceptional feat for a commercial Bollywood film. The film grossed over ₹147.39 crore in India net, ₹171 crore in India gross, and ₹39 crore overseas, for a worldwide total of ₹210 crore, becoming the 12th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2019. ## War (2019) ## A Yash Raj Films production directed by Siddharth Anand, this action spectacle stars Hrithik Roshan as Kabir and Tiger Shroff as Khalid, with Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, and Anupriya Goenka in supporting roles. The story follows Khalid, a loyal soldier, tasked with eliminating his former mentor Kabir, who has gone rogue. War was one of the most expensive Indian films ever made, featuring globe-trotting chase sequences and razor-sharp action that stood toe-to-toe with Hollywood standards. ## Filmed across India and exotic locations in Portugal, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Georgia, and Australia, it famously became the first Indian film to shoot an action climax on the Arctic Circle, requiring a five-month wait for shooting permission. The production crew took three months to prep, and actual filming lasted six days. The movie emerged as the biggest blockbuster of the lot with ₹318.01 crore India net, ₹375 crore India gross, ₹96 crore overseas, and a worldwide total of ₹471 crore, making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019, noted for its breathtaking stunts, global scale, and slick choreography. ## Vikram Vedha (2022) ## This Hindi remake of the acclaimed Tamil film is directed by Pushkar–Gayathri and stars Hrithik Roshan as gangster Vedha and Saif Ali Khan as police officer Vikram, with Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf, Yogita Bihani, and Sharib Hashmi in pivotal roles. The narrative follows Vikram’s pursuit of Vedha, who surrenders voluntarily and narrates morally complex stories that challenge Vikram’s black-and-white worldview. Shot across Abu Dhabi and Lucknow, the film blends neo-noir and thriller elements, with early casting rumours once linking Shah Rukh Khan to Vedha’s role. The movie fared moderately at the box office by wrapping its theatrical run with an India net collection of ₹78.90 Cr, an India gross collection of ₹93.10 Cr, and an overseas total of ₹42.34 Cr, resulting in a worldwide cumulative of ₹135.44 Cr. ## Fighter (2024) ## Starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, along with Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Rishabh Sawhney, the film follows an elite Indian Air Force squadron, "Air Dragons", assembled to counter a terrorist threat led by Azhar Akhtar. Mixing high-octane aerial combat with personal arcs and romance. The project was first revealed by Hrithik Roshan himself on his birthday, 10 January 2021, building early buzz. Directed by Siddharth Anand, Blending themes of patriotism and camaraderie, the film, originally slated for September 2022, was released on Republic Day 2024, marking Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s first on-screen pairing in a feature film and showcasing some of the most ambitious VFX-driven aerial sequences ever seen in Indian cinema. ## The film premiered on Republic Day weekend (25 January 2024), marking Deepika Padukone’s fourth release aligned with the national celebration—after Race 2 (2013), Padmaavat (2018), and Pathaan (2023). The movie solidified the third collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and director Siddharth Anand, each instalment spaced exactly five years apart: Bang Bang! (2014), War (2019), and now Fighter (2024). Fighter earned ₹212.75 crore in India net, ₹255 crore India gross, and ₹104 crore overseas, bringing its worldwide total to ₹359 crore. ## War 2 (2025) ## War 2 is the official sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War and the sixth instalment in the Yash Raj Films (YRF) Spy Universe. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film marked a notable shift in creative direction from the original's director, Siddharth Anand. Filming commenced in early 2024, covering multiple countries including Spain, Italy, Abu Dhabi, Japan, Russia, and India, with a projected budget nearing ₹400 crores. War 2 stakes its claim as one of the most expensive Indian spy thrillers ever made. The teaser dropped on Jr NTR’s birthday, highlighting a high-voltage face-off between Hrithik and Jr NTR, garnering significant social media buzz. The release also represented a cultural moment: not just Jr NTR's Bollywood debut but also a symbolic introduction of Hrithik to Telugu audiences.## Stay tuned...

CBI Files Closure Report In Actor Sushant Singh Rajput's Death Case

Mumbai, March 23 - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has concluded its investigation and has filed the closure report into the mysterious death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, according to PTI. The report was submitted to a special court in Mumbai, which will now decide whether to accept it or order further investigation. ## Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging in his apartment in Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14, 2020, at the age of 34. The CBI has determined that the actor's death was a case of suicide, with no evidence of foul play or criminal conspiracy. The CBI took over the case in August 2020 from the Bihar Police after the Supreme Court ordered it to conduct a thorough probe since there were conflicting reports of the Patna and Mumbai Police.## Subsequently, Sushant's father KK Singh lodged an FIR with the Patna Police in Bihar accusing actor Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetting his son's suicide. A counter-complaint by Chakraborty against Rajput's family was also investigated. The closure report addresses both cases, finding no substantiation for the allegations made by either party. Forensic experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) supported the CBI's conclusion.## The investigation involved recording statements from Chakraborty and others close to Rajput, as well as examining medical and forensic evidence, including a laptop, camera, and mobile phones. Despite extensive scrutiny, no evidence emerged to suggest anyone drove Rajput to suicide or that his death involved foul play. The report effectively clears Rhea Chakraborty, her family, and others named in the initial FIRs, ending a high-profile case that sparked widespread speculation and media attention.## The Mumbai Police had initially treated the death as a suicide, finding no signs of forced entry or a suicide note. However, the case gained significant traction after Rajput's family pursued legal action, leading to CBI involvement. While the closure report marks the agency's final stance, Rajput's family retains the option to file a protest petition if they disagree with the findings. The court's decision on the report will determine the next steps, if any, in this long-running investigation.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Gadar 2 First Wednesday Early Estimates; Mayhem Continues

Mumbai, August 16 - Gadar 2 mayhem continues at the box office after the historic 5-day Independence Day weekend domestically. On its first Wednesday/sixth day, Gadar 2 scores an estimated 34-35 crores net which is simply outstanding and unbelievable to describe. The sort of occupancy the film is running with has never been seen for ages and we have to go back to 2001 to see similar occupancies when Gadar: Ek Prem Katha broke all records and before that, it was Hum Aapke Hain Koun in 1994. These two are the biggest box office blockbusters of the modern era or post-Sholay era. ## The first Wednesday collections will take the total collections of the film to around 264cr net box office mark depending on where the actual Wednesday numbers arrive. A few days back the first week total was looking to settle around 275cr net office mark is now looking to beat that figure by margin and is looking to settle around the 290cr plus mark. Even a mammoth 295cr can be achieved the way Gadar2 is performing at the ticket window. ## The film has broken every record in single screens especially the ones in the heartland like the single screens of UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Central India and CP Berar. East Punjab which did not start with record numbers has joined the party. These are the core Hindi circuits that make the difference between a regular blockbuster and a legendary blockbuster. Mumbai circuit is on par with any film to date except for the mighty Bahubali: The Conclusion.## Gadar2 has emerged as an all-time blockbuster at the box office and became the only franchise in the history of Hindi cinema where both films got all-time blockbuster verdicts. A near 300cr first-week collection has provided a platform for the film to cross the magical 500cr net number but we have to wait for the second Friday and Monday numbers. Even if the film gets short to 500cr it is easily the biggest hit of the year.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Gadar 2 First Tuesday/Independence Day Early Estimates

Mumbai, August 15 - Gadar 2 continues its rampage at the box office as it scored its biggest day today, on the occasion of Independence Day domestically. The period action drama film scored a jump of around 5% from the Sunday collection of 51.70 crores net which is simply phenomenal. The film has gone bonkers at the box office and if not for the capacity issues the film would have collected around 15-20% more.## On its first Tuesday/fifth day, Gadar 2 scored an estimated around 55 crores net and might go up to 56 crores which remains to see. The final collection may vary a little bit here and there which remains to see. The mass circuits have seen new highs, especially the ones in the smaller towns of UP, Bihar, and Rajasthan which are the core Hindi circuits and bring back the memories of legendary blockbusters like Sholay, Kranti, and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Some theaters which were not even collecting in thousands for other huge films have collected in lakhs for Gadar2 which speaks about its reach and appreciation.## The first Tuesday collections will take the total collections of the film to around 228cr net box office mark depending on where the actual number lands. The film has witnessed its biggest day at the box office ousting its third day. It is also among the biggest single days ever witnessed at the box office and is sure to be among the Top 3 along with two single days of Pathaan but Gadar2 is coming in a clash so in real value the film is probably the biggest ever single day. ## Gadar2 has emerged as a blockbuster of epic proportions at the box office which is a rarity in the post-pandemic era. The film is looking to settle around 275cr plus in the first week. The lifetime numbers of Pathaan look very difficult at this moment to cross but the historic first-week business has given the film a platform to do the imaginable.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Gadar 2 Third Day/First Sunday Early Estimates; Hits The Ball Out Of The Park

Mumbai, August 13 - Gadar 2 is taking the nation by storm and scoring historic collections with each passing day. The film hit the ball out of the park on its third day and registered one of the biggest single days of all time. East-West-North-South Gadar2 mania has gripped the nation. ## The growth today is over 15% as the movie collects an estimated 51-52 crores net which is phenomenal as yesterday was also a huge day. The jump comes in the multiplexes but even the single screens which hit capacity in the first two days have seen a surge in collections. Now more shows have been added and hence the capacity to collect has increased. If these number of shows were there on the first two days then the business would have been more. ## The first Sunday of the movie, if the estimate stays, will be the second biggest first Sunday in Hindi of all time. It will take the first weekend collections of the film to around 133 cr net mark which is simply historic as it is coming on a normal weekend. The film is the second biggest weekend of the Hindi film industry after Pathaan which was helped by the huge national holiday on the second day. The mass centers of UP-Bihar, Rajasthan, CP-Berar, and CI are seeing collections that have never been seen before by any film to date. These numbers have also come in a clash otherwise with a solo release Gadar2 would have done 155-160cr net box office on its weekend. ## Gadar2 has proved to be a bonafide blockbuster at the box office just like the original film in 2001. Tomorrow will be a big test for the film as it will be coming after three huge days at the box office but going by the booking the film is sure to stay on higher levels and even the 30cr net mark cannot be ruled out and that 30cr on normal Monday would mean a historic Monday. The film is looking to cross the 200cr net box office mark by independence day.## Stay tuned...
