Actress Anasuya Sengupta Creates History At The Cannes Film Festival

Cannes, May 25 - Actress Anasuya Sengupta has created history by becoming the first Indian to win the Best Actress award at the Un Certain Regard segment of the Cannes Film Festival. ## Sengupta received the prestigious award for her role in the film Shameless directed and written by Bulgarian filmmaker Constantin Bojanov. The film portrays the journey of a sex worker who escapes from a brothel in Delhi after stabbing a policeman. ## "You don’t have to be queer to fight for equality, you don’t have to be colonised to understand that colonising is pathetic — we just need to be very, very decent human beings", Sengupta said in her acceptance speech (via India Today). ## Anasuya is recognised primarily for her work as a production designer in Mumbai and her work includes set design of the Netflix show Masaba Masaba. The Face of Assam: Papon Represents His Home State At The Cannes Film Festival

Mumbai, May 28 - Known to don multiple hats, such as that of a singer, songwriter, music composer, and music producer, Papon was among the luminaries from India to have graced the prestigious Cannes Film Festival as the cultural ambassador of Assam. The artist also attended the event in the capacity of a producer of two upcoming films - titled 'The Land of the Sacred Beats' and 'The Mystical Brahmaputra - A Musical Story. The teasers of Papon's productions were screened at the India Pavilion at the Marché du Film to celebrate cinema rooted in Assam. ## Papon was also a panelist for a discussion titled 'The Gateway to the Northeast'. It touched upon the film policy, scenic locales, cultural heritage, and hospitality of Papon's home state. The artist was joined by Mr. Simanta Sekhar Chairperson, Assam State Film Finance & Development Corporation Ms. Loya Madhuri IAS, Secretary Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, Ms. Monidipa Borkotoki, Managing Director, Assam State Film Finance & Development Corporation, and Mr. Biswajeet Bora - Film Director (Boomba Ride). ## As a producer, Papon has been diligently working on TheThe Land of the Sacred Beats and The Mystical Brahmaputra - A Musical Story for four years. The former is premised on the 550 years old traditional classical music of Assam, by Vaishnava Saint Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and the latter is a tribute to the Brahmaputra and the multicultural co-existence of the music, art, and culture of the tribes and communities who have settled at the bank of the river. Directed by Parasher Baruah, these upcoming films capture the diversity of music, art, craft, livelihood, and stories of Assam. ## Papon says, "I am truly honored to have represented my country and my home state Assam at Cannes 2022. Cannes, May 19 - Hollywood action star was honored with a prestigious Palme d'Or award at the "Top Gun: Maverick" premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. The movie also received a 5-minutes standing ovation from the crowd at the premiere. ## "An incredible evening and an incredible time. Just to see everyone's faces. It's been 36 years since Top Gun and we had to hold this for two years because of the pandemic", said Cruise to the crowd (via Deadline). ## Prior to receiving the Palme d'Or, the blockbuster actor was given a tribute reel before the film played. As a prelude, French fighter jets took the sky streaming blue, white, and red smoke. The squadron did a second pass before the Top Gun: Maverick star took the stage at the Palais.## "Thank you Paramount people, this was a dream to be here with you. I'm going to take this all in and I'm never going to forget this evening. Thank you for being here. We're here for you. I make these movies for all of you. COVID-19 effect: Cannes Film Festival 2020 postponed

Paris, March 20 (IANS) The 73rd edition of The Cannes Film Festival has been postponed in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. ## The festival's organisers on Thursday issued a statement, confirming the delay in the gala, which was scheduled to take place in May, reports deadline.com. ## "At this time of global health crisis, our thoughts go to the victims of the COVID-19 and we express our solidarity with all of those who are fighting the disease. ## "Today, we have made the following decision : The Festival de Cannes cannot be held on the scheduled dates, from May 12 to 23. Several options are considered in order to preserve its running, the main one being a simple postponement, in Cannes, until the end of June to beginning of July 2020," the statement read. ## Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, on March 8, the French government banned public gatherings of more than 1,000 people to limit the spread of the disease. ## For more and the latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned to us.
