'Doctor Strange 2' Star Benedict Cumberbatch Jokes About Will Smith's Oscars Slap Controversy

Los Angeles, May 9 - Benedict Cumberbatch takes a dig at Will Smith's infamous slap to comedian Chris Rock in the recently concluded Oscars, in 'Saturday Night Live' monologue. Benedict was nominated for the Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his performance in "The Power of the Dog".## Cumberbatch said during his monologue, "I really am thrilled to be back hosting Saturday Night Live. It's been a really fun, great week. I have to be honest, though, because most of the sketch writers pitched me sketches every day, and most were about 'Doctor Strange' - which is great, I love the guy, I love playing the character, but I have been in other films".## He joked that Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of Saturday Night Live, asked him what other films he'd appeared in. The actor added, "I said, 'Well, like 'The Power of the Dog.' And he said, 'Nobody saw it.' I said, 'Come on, man, I was nominated for an Oscar for that.' I mean, I didn't win. I was beaten by Will Smith".## He then added: "No, not physically! Not physically!".## Will Smith, who won his maiden Oscar for his performance in "King Richard", smacked Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony, after the stand-up comedian made a joke about his wife. Will Smith Apologizes To Chris Rock For His Misconduct At Oscars 2022

Los Angeles, March 29 - Hollywood star Will Smith was one of the highlights at the 94th Academy Awards, held on March 27-28. While he won his first Oscars ever for his portrayal of Richard Williams in "King Richard", the 53-year old actor faced criticism for his misconduct with comedian Chris Rock at the star-studded ceremony. ## Chris Rock, who was on the stage to present the Oscar for documentary feature, made a joke about Will's wife being in "G.I. Jane" because of her shaved head. However, the joke didn't go well with Will Smith as he took the stage and slapped the comedian which stunned everyone. He later apologized to Academy while receiving his Oscars but didn't apologize to Rock. ## However, a day later, Will Smith realized his misconduct and offered an apology to Rock via Instagram post and said that his "behavior was unacceptable and inexcusable". The actor also said that he couldn't control himself when Rock made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's medical condition as it was "too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally". ## "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness", he added. ## The "Men In Black" further said, "I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees, and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. "King Richard". The actor played the title role in this biographical sports drama film that follows the life of Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams.
