Filmmaker Rohit Shetty Opens Up On The Box Office Failure Of Ranveer Singh-Fronted 'Cirkus'

Mumbai, July 15 - Filmmaker Rohit Shetty takes the blame on himself for the box office failure of the comedy caper "Cirkus" starring Ranveer Singh in a double role. Released in December last year, the movie failed miserably to gross just around 60 crores, becoming the lowest-grossing film of Shetty since "All The Best" (2009) at the worldwide box office. ## During a recent interview with India Today, the maverick filmmaker said that every success and failure of his movies belongs to him. "I make sure to surround myself with people who are honest with me. So, when a film doesn't do well, I know it. Hence, I have always believed that both my successes and failures are mine. There is no point shying away from it", he said.## "When a 'Singham' or a 'Golmaal' did well, that was also mine, so when a 'Zameen' (2003), a 'Dilwale' or a 'Cirkus' failed, that was also mine. I don't see a point in blaming anything else", Shetty added.## The "Singham" director further said that "Cirkus" was made during the pandemic for the workers so that they can earn their livelihood. Shetty's next theatrical release is the highly-anticipated third installment of the "Singham" franchise starring Ajay Devgn which is due to start filming next month and be released during Independence Day weekend 2024.## Shetty promises to make a solid comeback with "Singham Again". "The same audience made 'Sooryanshi' a blockbuster despite a 50% occupancy, and if it didn't work for 'Cirkus', I must take ownership of failures as well. That's not to say that I won't bounce back with the 'Singham' franchise again or 'Golmaal' or any other film, and I might make 'Cirkus' again, too". ## Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is currently busy with the promotion of his hosted daredevil show "Khathron Ke Khiladi 13" which premiers on July 15 on Colors TV. Shetty also has his digital debut series "Indian Police Force" starring Siddharth Malhotra. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video later this year.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Cirkus First Monday Early Estimates

Mumbai, December 26 - Cirkus had a very poor first weekend with collections around the 21cr mark and now, it has fallen on its face on the first Monday of its box office run. The film has seen rejection all over the country with the Mumbai circuit leading the way as the film was expected to put big numbers due to its genre and actor-director appeal in this circuit.## The first Monday early estimate collections are set to be around 2.50 crores net box office mark which is a disaster collection for this film. The first Monday collections will take the total collections of the film to a little over the 23cr net box office mark. The first week of business might be in the range of 30-32cr for Cirkus.## Overall, Cirkus has turned out to be the worst box office performer of Rohit Shetty's career who had an insane box office run till this film with a series of hits, super hits, and sometimes even blockbusters. The overseas numbers are as shocking as domestic especially if you consider that this film stars Ranveer Singh who is one of the biggest overseas stars though only with the correct film.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Cirkus First Sunday Early Estimates

Mumbai, December 25 - Cirkus, which had poor collections in the first two days, continues its low business at the box office on Sunday despite being a national holiday. The film is probably the biggest disappointment of the year as it had a superhit director and a massive star cast and was released on one of the best weekends of the year, Christmas. ## As per the early estimates, the movie scored an estimated approx. 7.50 crores which is just a 15% jump when the film needed a 70-80% jump to record decent first weekend collections. The first Sunday collections will take the weekend collections of the film to around 20cr net depending on the final Sunday collections. The weekend collections will be less than the opening day collections of the previous Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh starrer "Simmba" which was released on the same weekend in 2018 and was a blockbuster.## Mumbai circuit is the only circuit where the film has found some audience but that is due to the insane track record of Rohit Shetty and not because of the content. Rest all other circuits have seen disaster collections. The first weekend has proved to be a killer for the film and it will lose most of its shows from Monday onwards. Avatar 2, which is simply running riot at the box office will get the maximum number of shows. Drishyam 2 whose run was almost ended might become the second choice now and the film might add some extra crores to its lifetime total. ## Overall 2022 proved to be one of the worst years ever for the Hindi film industry and the hope is that the industry should be back on track in 2023 with mega-event films lined up. Though 2022 witnessed some unexpected Blockbusters like The Kashmir Files, Bhool Bhulaiya2, and Drishyam2.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Cirkus First Saturday Early Estimates

Mumbai, December 24 - Cirkus, which had poor collections on its opening day as it collected just 6.75cr net, remains flat on its first Saturday with little to nothing growth.## The movie scored an estimated 6.75-7 crores net and in an ideal case scenario, the second-day number should have been twice or thrice higher than what it is collecting now. The biggest shocker for the film is that Mumbai, Pune, and Thane all these places which do blockbuster business for Rohit Shetty films are seeing awful collections.## The first Saturday collections will take the first two days' collections of "Cirkus" to around the 13.50 crores net box office mark which should have been the opening day collections of the film. Tomorrow is a huge national holiday and if Circus fails to see huge growth then the film is likely to be a disaster which will be the first for Rohit Shetty who has an incredible career as a director with a close to 90% success ratio. ## There is a huge week full of holidays to follow which would have helped the film but seeing limited growth on the second day indicates that the Circus is a rejected film. This will be the third consecutive major flop of Ranveer Singh who is one of the most promising upcoming generation stars but the popularity will surely be affected after three duds.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Cirkus First Day Early Estimates

Mumbai, December 23 - The last big release of the year for the Hindi film industry, "Cirkus" has been released today at the box office. The film was much anticipated as it stars Ranveer Singh and it is directed by Rohit Shetty who is probably the most successful director of the last 15 years. The film has been made on a huge scale and also the first film of this actor-director combo Simmba became a blockbuster at the box office so it was carrying tremendous expectations. ## Cirkus opened to lukewarm response in the morning shows all over the country which was expected from the advance booking of the film as the advances were the lowest of all the major releases of 2022. But generally, Rohit Shetty's films open well at the box office, especially in Mumbai and Gujarat circuits as his films give the local Maharashtrian vibes but this time even Mumbai and Gujarat have seen dull occupancies throughout the day which is nothing but a shocker for the Industry.## As per the early estimates, "Cirkus" has scored around 7.00 crores net which is average collections but when you bring the scale and budget of the film into consideration then the opening is poor. No circuit in India collected well barring Mumbai but even Mumbai is not collected as it should have been for this Rohit Shetty comic caper. Rest all the circuits have seen a disaster turnout.## There is a huge Saturday and Sunday to follow for Cirkus and the film should show big gains in the next two days to record healthy first-weekend collections. The big plus for Circus is that there is a huge holiday week lined up from 25 Dec to 1 January and with no other film being released this makes Circus the only film in the theater other than Avatar2 so it will get an advantage but the content has to be there to satisfy the audience.## Stay tuned...

Rohit Shetty Strongly Counters Bollywood Criticism

Mumbai, December 22 - Blockbuster Bollywood filmmaker, Rohit Shetty has responded to the unfair criticism the Bollywood film industry is receiving for its failure at the box office. The industry has gone through a rough phase over the last couple of years due to the covid-19 pandemic as films have failed to make a mark barring a few blockbusters.## There have been films this year that were expected to perform well, but couldn't spread magic at the box office. The underperformance of the films like "Bachchan Pandey", "Laal Singh Chaddha", and "Vikram Vedha", and others, led to criticism of the industry. ## Rohit Shetty, who is busy with the promotion of his upcoming comedy film "Cirkus", was asked a question about the poor run of Bollywood in comparison to southern industries which have delivered mega-blockbusters in 2022. ## Shetty stated that Bollywood is going through a phase due to the pandemic though it is not doom and gloom as there have been blockbusters films from Bollywood like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra, The Kashmir Files, Bhool Bhulaiyya 2, and Drishyam 2. ## The filmmaker points out that Bollywood has been the synonym for blockbusters over the years and has been known to churn out one blockbuster after another since the 1970s. He listed out past blockbusters like Deewar, Don, Hum Aaapke Hai Kaun, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, Singham, Suryavanshi, Amar Akbar Anthony among several others. ## Rohit Shetty further said that Bollywood will be back with a bang with films like "Pathaan", "Tiger 3", "Fighter", "Dunki", and his own "Singham Again", among many others. ## Man of the moment strikes back with a statement that should have been said a long time ago. A great thought and speech there #RohitShetty 💯 pic.twitter.com/xeuiuO6fXo— Ramesh Bala (@rameshlaus) December 22, 2022 ## Stay tuned...

Rohit Shetty's 'Cirkus' Sees Slow Advance Booking Response

Mumbai, December 20 - Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty gears up for his long-awaited comedy film Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh, slated to hit screens on December 23 during the Christmas weekend. The trailer and songs have received positive reviews from audiences and the makers are confident regarding the success of the movie. ## Rohit Shetty has been the epitome of box office hits over the years as he hasn't given a single flop in the past 10-12 years. As far as Shetty is concerned, he is confident that "Cirkus" will continue his winning run, but the response to the movie in advance booking has been slow, which isn't normal for his films. ## The advance booking of "Cirkus" was opened a couple of days but it hasn't picked up the way the makers had thought. The film so far has sold approx. 17,000 tickets for the opening day which might be worrisome news as far as the opening of the movie is concerned.## There are still three days left to release which are considered peak days for advance booking, especially Wednesday and Thursday. Despite that, the pre-sales of "Cirkus" are not looking to score big numbers. ## Shetty's films are known for taking big starts but "Cirkus" might open to low double-digit numbers. Shetty's films have always been appreciated by the masses which plays a key role in spot booking, and the same might happen with "Cirkus", ensuring a decent double-digit opening.## The film is jointly produced by Rohit Shetty Productionz and T-Series and stars Ranveer Singh in a dual role alongside Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Varun Sharma in prominent roles along with Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Siddhartha Jadhav, Mukesh Tiwari, Vrajesh Hirjee, Ashwini Kalsekar, Murali Sharma, Tiku Talsania, and Vijay Patkar, among others in supporting roles. ## Stay tuned...

The maverick filmmaker has never failed to amaze the audiences by making larger-than-life cinema which has been his biggest USP over the years and he continues to stick with that. ## During the covid-19 pandemic, it was Shetty's "Sooryavanshi", which provided much-needed breath to the Hindi film industry by grossing 300 crores at the worldwide box office.
