Former team India opener Gautam Gambhir has said on Monday (June 15) that Virat Kohli may have scored so many runs and have broken many records but as a leader, Kohli has a lot to achieve. ## While speaking to Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, Gautam Gambhir said, "You can keep scoring your own runs. There are people like Brian Lara who’s got so many runs. People like Jacques Kallis who have won nothing, Virat Kohli, at the moment, has won nothing to be honest, as a leader.”## “He has a lot to achieve. He can keep scoring his own runs. Legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar said that the BCCI should consider holding the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in Sri Lanka in September as he thinks that BCCI's plan of organizing the tournament in October looking far from reality after the Australia government has formally announced that 25 percent crowd can turn up for sporting events that have opened the door for the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to play in Australia in October. ## "After the announcement by the Australian government, there seems to be a possibility of conducting a World T20 in October. Maybe the teams will have to reach three weeks earlier, have seven days of practice games and also 14-day quarantine," Gavaskar told Sports Tak of Aaj Tak.## "If ICC believes that World T20 can happen, then having IPL looks difficult because it could only be held if World T20 is postponed but after the announcement (by Australia PM Scott Morrison), IPL in October looks difficult," he added.## While the T20 World Cup is looking more imminent than the IPL in October, Sunny G believes that holding IPL in Sri Lanka in September makes more sense as it can't be held in India around that time because of the monsoon.## "September you can't have IPL in India due to monsoon. But maybe in Sri Lanka from early September with teams playing each other once instead of a double header. Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is arguably one of the most talented and flamboyant players in India at the moment. He revealed that during the Australia tour in 2016 in which he made his international debut with T20I in Adelaide, he went on to concede 26 runs off 8 balls and that left him fearing his career. ## "I conceded 26 runs from my first 8 balls and frankly thought my career was over. When I was hit for a huge six, almost 105-110m, I thought I was done. I felt it couldn't get worse than this and thankfully I managed to snare a couple of wickets," he said, speaking to Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz in Conversation.## Hardik Pandya who made his international debut under the captaincy of MS Dhoni has played most of his cricket under the leadership of Virat Kohli. Reflecting the beauty of the current Indian team, Hardik said that the current Indian captain and coach have backed him a lot during the tough times.## "I think he (MS Dhoni) wanted me to learn from my own experiences. The coronavirus pandemic has not only changed the way of living but also it has forced to make some necessary changes in sports too. Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket Committee has prohibited the use of saliva to shine the ball in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus when matches resume after the COVID-19 break. ## Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, however, raised concern over the ban on saliva and wants the alternative to maintaining the shine of the ball as he thinks that modern-day cricket has become more of a batsman-friendly game. So it will be difficult for the bowlers if there is no alternative option for shining the ball. However, the 26-year old does not have a problem with restrained celebrations as he thinks that he is not the high-five person.## "I was not much of a hugger anyway! And not a high-five person as well, so that doesn't trouble me a lot," Bumrah said on the ICC's video series, Inside Out Interviews with former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop and former South African captain Shaun Pollock. ## "The only thing that interests me is the saliva bit. I don't know what guidelines we'll have to follow when we come back, but I feel there should be an alternative. If the ball is not well maintained, it's difficult for the bowlers".## "The grounds are getting shorter and shorter, the wickets are becoming flatter and flatter. So we need something, some alternative for the bowlers to maintain the ball so that it can do something - maybe reverse at the end or conventional swing. In Test match cricket, yes (conditions are more bowler-friendly). That is why it's my favorite format because we have something over there. But in one-day cricket, there are two new balls, so it hardly reverses at the end. We played in New Zealand, the ground (boundary) was 50 meters. So you feel you are in the game. With no help, you only have few things to play with. So I enjoy bowling most with Dukes ball." Bishop asked Bumrah about how he developed the outswinger, which becomes an inswinger for the left-handers and the India international called it a gradual process," Bumrah said.## Bumrah also talked about his short run-up and said that many people advised him to increase it to generate more pace but he felt that pace never increased with the length of his run-up. ## "Playing in the backyard. My run-up is because of that as we didn't have so much of space, so this (8 step run-up) is the longest that you could have had, maybe this could have been the case. I have tried longer run-up and nothing changes, speed is still the same so why to run so much."## "Basically, I have never been coached a lot. No professional coaching or camps. Till date, everything is self-taught, everything, through TV, videos. There is no proper reason for action. Team India captain Virat Kohli has credited Mahendra Singh Dhoni in becoming the captain of the team by playing an important role. During a live chat session on Instagram with his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, Kohli said that MS Dhoni had a lot of confidence in him that he can do it after him. ## Kohli took over as the full-time Test captain when Dhoni retired from the longest format midway through India's tour of Australia in 2014-15 and later became captain across formats when Dhoni quit his limited-overs post in early 2017.## "I was always inclined towards taking responsibility. After that it was all about just wanting to play, wanting to be in the XI regularly. I didn't play all the games, but I wanted to be discussed, that 'whether this guy is good enough to play or not.' That is a transition that slowly happens," Kohli said.## The Indian captain also revealed that because of his interest in the game, he used to discuss a lot of things with MS Dhoni when he was not captain. Because Dhoni had observed him closely, it helped him become the captain of the side. ## "Then with your interest in the game, you start talking to the captain regularly. I was always in MS's ear, standing next to him, saying, 'We can do this, we can do that.' He would deny a lot of things but he would discuss a lot of things as well. I think he got a lot of confidence that I can do this after him".## "A large portion of me becoming captain was also to do with him observing me for a long period of time. It can't just happen that he goes and the selectors say, 'Okay you become captain.' Obviously the guy who is there takes responsibility and says, 'Okay I think this is the next guy. I will tell you how it is going.' And then slowly that transition is formed. He played a big role in that, and that trust you have to build over six-seven years. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated Rohit Sharma for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2020 while Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Deepti Sharma have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. ## The Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had sought invitations for the respective awards with the period of consideration beginning 1st January 2016 to 31st December 2019.## Team India's vice-captain in the limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma has been in stellar form in the white-ball cricket. He was declared ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2019. In the world cup 2019 in England and Wales, Rohit Sharma was the highest run-getter in the tournament with 648 runs in 9 matches. He also became the first player ever to score 5 hundred in a single edition of the world cup. ## Announcing the nominations, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said, "We went through a lot of data and considered various parameters before shortlisting the nominees. Rohit Sharma has set new benchmarks as a batsman and achieved scores people thought were not possible in the shorter formats of the game. Team India captain Virat Kohli remained the only cricketer to be included in the Forbes magazine list of highest-paid 100 athletes in the world in 2020, announced on Friday. He is also the sole Indian to be featured on the list. The right-hand batsman rose to 66th spot from 100th in 2019. ## According to Forbes Kohli had estimated total earnings of $26 million ($24m from endorsements and $2m from salary/winnings). Last year his total earnings were $25 million. He is also the only Indian to feature in Forbes list of highest-paid athletes for the second time in a row.## The Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has topped the 2020 list of highest-paid athletes for the first time. With estimated earnings of $106.3 million over the past 12 months, he becomes the first from his sport to top the chart. The tennis star edged out Portugal's football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from the top spot. In 2019, Federer was at number five. ## Lionel Messi, who topped the list in 2019 has slipped to the third position with the earning of $104 million over the last 12 months.
