A few days after Suresh Raina urged BCCI to allow Indian players to participate in the foreign T20 tournaments, Robin Uthappa too has the same willingness to play in overseas leagues and urges BCCI to let them go to partake in at least 2 overseas T20 leagues. ## Speaking to BBC, Robin Uthappa said, "Please let us go, honest to God. It does hurt when we're not allowed to go and play ... It would be so nice if we could go and play at least a couple of others because as a student of the game you want to learn and grow as much as you can."## Apart from women cricketers who are allowed to play in overseas leagues, BCCI has never allowed men players to play overseas tournaments. However, Robin Uthappa is hopeful that BCCI current president Sourav Ganguly will look into this matter and his progressive thinking will pave a way forward. ## "Ganguly is a very progressive thinking human being, someone who has always looked to take India to the next level. He actually laid the foundation for where India cricket is now," said Uthappa. "We're hoping that he will look at this at some point," Uthappa said. ## The 34-year old, Karnataka born cricketer, Uthappa was a part of India squad that won the inaugural T20I World Cup in 2007 in South Africa under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. An opening batsman and the limited-overs vice-captain, Rohit Sharma recalled the time when he got to share the dressing room with former Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, and heap praised the two-time world cup winning captain for his influence on the players as player and coach. In a live chat session on Instagram with spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit talked about the various things including his stint with Mumbai Indians.## "I feel Ponting is a guy from another planet. He knows how to bring out the best in someone. He has won two World Cups for Australia. So he knows how to win Championships," Rohit told Ashwin.## In IPL 2012, Sachin Tendulkar stepped down from MI's captaincy and Harbhajan Singh was made the captain before he too stepped down in 2013. That time, Rohit felt that he would be the next captain but then Ricky Ponting was bought in the auction.## "In 2013, we got Ricky Ponting in the auction. In 2012 Sachin paaji said that he would not lead Mumbai Indians and Bhajju paa (Harbhajan Singh) was made the skipper. But in 2013, I don't know why Bhajju paa wasn't the captain. And I thought I will be made the captain, but then Ponting was bought in the auction," said Rohit.## "Ponting was the first one to arrive in India for the 2013 season. He wanted to understand everyone. He said that he wanted to have a team bonding session first. In a way, it made a very positive impact on everyone. Ponting really motivated the younger guys," he added.## When Ponting was bought by Mumbai Indians in the auction, he was given captaincy instantly. However, he gave up captaincy after the first six matches in IPL 2013 as he couldn't perform well in those matches. That was the time when Rohit Sharma was handed over MI's leadership before MI won 4 IPL titles under his captaincy.## "But then he was not scoring runs, he decided to step down as the skipper, but eventually Ponting called me and I was given the captaincy. Ponting actually was player-cum-coach during the 2013 season. He was always there to help me," Rohit said.## Rohit Sharma also talked about how his life has changed since the arrival of his baby girl Samaira who he considers his lucky charm. The right-handed also revealed why he has given up on eating the famous street food of Mumbai. ## "I've been out a couple of times, gone to that famous place near Chowpatty. However, if Laxman and Dravid were the stars in batting, Harbhajan Singh had his match with the ball. Suresh Raina has hit back at the former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad who recently said that it was Suresh Raina's poor form that axed the player from the team India. He also said that he spoke to Raina about the future roadmap to comeback in the team and the player was agreed to his plan. ## Speaking to PTI, MSK Prasad had said, “See VVS Laxman, when he was dropped from the Indian Test squad in 1999, he forced himself back by scoring over 1400 runs in domestic cricket. This is what is expected from senior players when they are dropped,” ## “I had personally spoken to Raina calling him to my room and explained him the roadmap for his future comebacks. He had, back then, appreciated my efforts,” Prasad had said.## However, Suresh Raina in a live chat session with Irfan Pathan on Saturday has hit back at MSK Prasad and said he never spoke to him at all. ## “MSK Prasad said that I under-performed and also stated that he spoke to me about my axing, but he didn’t speak to me at all. Suresh Raina has said that BCCI should give permission to non-contracted players to play in at least two foreign leagues. During a live chat session on Instagram with Irfan Pathan, Raina has said that players like himself, Yusuf Pathan, Robin Uthappa, and others how don't have a central contract should be allowed to participate in foreign T20 leagues. ## As of now, Indian players have not been issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to participate in any of the foreign leagues. He said that if players are allowed to play in other leagues, it will help them stay fit and hone their skills further.## "I wish BCCI plans something with ICC or the franchises... whichever player is not with a BCCI contract should be allowed to play in foreign T20 leagues. Because I feel they're a lot of players like that - including Yusuf Pathan, myself, Robin Uthappa... There are many quality players who can go abroad and learn a lot of things, whichever league that is in. Allow us to play in two leagues, where we go, play, and the BCCI themselves say 'you go play there'," Raina said. ## Raina restates that IPL is the only option for non-contracted players. If they failed to perform there then there is no 'Plan B' for them. He also said that many foreign players make their comebacks in their national team by performing well in overseas leagues. ## "If we play competitive cricket in three months, whether that's Big Bash League or CPL... anything that makes us feel we're ready. If you see overseas players all play, and then they make comebacks for their country. We play IPL, and there's a big pool of players so if they [franchises] feel we're not good, then there's no plan B for us. If we go abroad, perform there and stay fit and play well, then our cricket will also improve and we'll get to learn a lot," he added.## Irfan Pathan also seemed to agree with Suresh Raina as he felt that BCCI is not considering 30 years and above players to play in the national team. ## "My suggestion is that all the players who are 30-years-old and not in the radar to play international cricket, BCCI should allow them to play in foreign leagues," Pathan said. ## Suresh Raina, who is the first and one of the only three Indian players to have scored a century in all three formats, has played 226 ODIs, 18 Tests, and 76 T20Is for team India. Apart from international cricket, Raina has been a regular player in IPL for CSK since the tournament introduced in 2008.
