Akash Chopra Backs Virat Kohli To Continue To Lead Team India, Says He Can't be Blamed For RCB's Failure In IPL

Amid the ongoing talks regarding the change in the captaincy of India's limited-overs side, former India cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has come out in support of current Indian captain Virat Kohli and defended him by saying that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper cannot be blamed for the franchise's poor performances. ## Recently, former Kolkata Knight Riders' captain, Gautam Gambhir had slammed Virat Kohli after RCB failed to break the jinx of winning the trophy yet again at this year's IPL. Gambhir said that it is time for Kohli to quit RCB's captaincy. He also opined that instead of Kohli, Rohit Sharma, who just won the 5th IPL title as captain for Mumbai Indians, should be given India's limited-overs captaincy. ## Disagreeing with Gambhir's statement, Chopra said that though Rohit is outstanding as the captain, he should not be given the leadership of the national side based on his success in the IPL. He asked if Rohit will win those trophies with the RCB team, which is there with Kohli?## "Gautam Gambhir believes that it is the nation's misfortune if Rohit Sharma is not made the Indian T20I captain because he is the most successful captain in the IPL", Chopra said in a video posted on his Facebook page.## Also Read - Rahul Dravid Bats For T20 Cricket To Become an Olympic Sport## "But I have a question that if Rohit was given the RCB team, which is there with Kohli, will he have won two, three or four out of the five titles MI have won? Rohit as a captain is outstanding, I love him to bits but can the Mumbai Indians' success story be equated with India, that is my question. Just because Kohli's team does not do well, does it mean that is Kohli's fault", he added.## Akash Chopra who represented India in 10 Tests and scored 437 runs with 2 half-centuries, said that he doesn't see any change in captaincy at the moment as India isn't scheduled to play many matches in the shortest format of the game at the moment. ## "They cannot make him the captain now, however much you may try. I know it is not fair, I know it is tough but this is what it is. It cannot happen now as there is a simple reason for that. There are not too many T20 matches at the moment. Let us wait for some time, let us be cool, he cannot become the captain now. Kohli is the captain currently and I don't feel that there is going to be a captaincy change in this team now", Akash stated.## ICYDK, Rohit Sharma has been rested for the limited-overs series (3 ODIs & 3 T20Is) against Australia starting from November 27 to gain full fitness. However, he has been added to the Test squad which will see Virat Kohli missing the last three matches as he has granted paternity leave. ## Stay tuned...

Gautam Gambhir Feels Royal Challengers Bangalore Should Look Beyond Virat Kohli As Captain

Former India opener, Gautam Gambhir has slammed Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Virat Kohli after RCB lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6-wickets in Eliminator on Friday (November 6) and knocked out from the tournament. Gambhir feels that Virat Kohli should be held accountable for RCB's failure and should step down from captaincy. ## "100%, because the problem is about accountability. Eight years into the tournament [without a trophy], eight years is a long time. Tell me any other captain, forget about the captain, tell me any other player who would have got eight years, and wouldn't have won the title and would have still continued with it. So it has to be accountability. A captain needs to take accountability", Gambhir said in a live interaction on ESPNCricinfo.## "It's not only about one year, but it's also not only about this. I have nothing against Virat Kohli but somewhere down the line, he needs to put his hand up and say, 'yes, I am responsible. I am accountable", he continued. ## Virat Kohli has captained RCB in 125 matches in which, the team has won 55 matches and lost 63 games. Under Kohli's captaincy, RCB has reached the final only once where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. ## Speaking about the same, Gambhir said, "Eight years is a long, long time. Look at what happened to Ashwin. After two years of captaincy [for the Kings XI Punjab], he couldn't deliver and he was removed. We talk about MS Dhoni, we talk about Rohit Sharma, we talk about Virat Kohli, not at all. Dhoni has won three titles, Rohit Sharma has won four titles, and that's the reason they've captained for such a long time because they've delivered. I'm sure if Rohit Sharma wouldn't have delivered for eight years, he would have been removed as well. There should not be different yardsticks for different people".## "The problem and the accountability starts from the top, not from the management nor the support staff, but from the leader. You're the leader, you're the captain. When you get the credit, you should take the criticism as well", Gambhir said. ## .@GautamGambhir says it is time for Bangalore to look beyond Virat Kohli as captain 🏏https://t.co/hbe8aQOUsg #T20Timeout pic.twitter.com/9ntEpG1uDY— ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) November 7, 2020 ## Stay tuned...

Irfan Pathan Picks Up Retired XI To Take On Current Team India

Amid the talk about a farewell match for the recently retired Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has come up with an interesting idea. After the retirement of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, many Indian players have retired from the international cricket who didn't receive a proper farewell. ## Irfan Pathan has suggested a 'charity-cum-farewell game' between a team comprising retired Indian cricketers who didn't receive a proper send-off against the current Indian team led by Virat Kohli.## Pathan, who announced his retirement from the cricket earlier this year, has picked up some of India's biggest match-winners who never received a proper send-off. The 35-year old has picked up the following names along with picking himself – Gautam Gambhir (retired in 2018), Virender Sehwag (retired in 2014), Rahul Dravid (retired in 2012), VVS Laxman (retired in 2012), Yuvraj Singh (retired in 2019), MS Dhoni & Suresh Raina (2020), Ajit Agarkar (retired in 2007), Zaheer Khan (retired in 2015), and Pragyan Ojha (retired in 2020). ## He tweeted, "Many people are talking about a farewell game for retired players who didn't get a proper send-off from the game. How about a charity cum farewell game from a team consisting of retired players vs the current Indian team?". ## Many people are talking about a farewell game for retired players who didn't get a proper send-off from the game. However, a senior BCCI official has said that the board is willing to host a farewell match for the former India captain and the two-time world cup winner MS Dhoni. He said that the board will have a word with Dhoni during the IPL regarding his desire to play a farewell game.## Stay tuned...

Virat Kohli shouldn't compare his level of intensity with other players, says Gautam Gambhir

Former team India opener Gautam Gambhir has said on Monday (June 15) that Virat Kohli may have scored so many runs and have broken many records but as a leader, Kohli has a lot to achieve. ## While speaking to Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, Gautam Gambhir said, "You can keep scoring your own runs. There are people like Brian Lara who’s got so many runs. People like Jacques Kallis who have won nothing, Virat Kohli, at the moment, has won nothing to be honest, as a leader.”## “He has a lot to achieve. He can keep scoring his own runs. But for me, in a team sport, till the time you don’t win those big trophies, you will never be considered... probably you will never fulfill your entire career,” Gambhir further said.## Gambhir also said that there are players in the team who can never match Kohli's intensity as a player. He advised Kohli that he should not compare his intensity with the other players to bring out the best of them. ## “He’s different from the rest. Probably a lot of other people might not have the same ability that Virat Kohli has. As a leader, the most important quality which he needs to have is to start taking players as they are. Don’t compare them, or don’t compare their intensity to his intensity. Because every individual is different.”## “Mohammed Shami can never be Jasprit Bumrah. Or Ishant Sharma can never be Jasprit Bumrah. Or KL Rahul can never be Virat Kohli. For that matter, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, all these guys probably can never match to Virat Kohli’s intensity, and talent as well,” Gambhir said.## “But how to get the best out of them, and figuring out those situations will help him, and prepare him the best for the world titles, and that is only when they can actually win it,” he added.## Virat Kohli's record as captain is quite impressive but he yet to win an ICC trophy. He led India in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy where India lost in the final to Pakistan while in the ODI World Cup 2019, India reached in the semi-final only to lose against New Zealand. Besides, Kohli is yet to win the IPL title as well despite his exceptional record as a batsman.## Stay tuned...
