This year, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the most talked-about clash has not happened on the big screen. It is being installed on TV sets, between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the reality TV show, Bigg Boss. ## As expected, the IPL 13 is clearly bossing the TRP ratings over the blockbuster controversial reality show being hosted by the superstar Salman Khan. ## According to a report by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the opening week of the cricket tournament this year saw 21 percent growth in average impressions per match as compared to 2019, despite one less match and fewer channels than last year (as stated by IANS).## The report stating out that a total of 269 million viewers watched IPL in its opening week, with 11 million more viewers per match compared to 2019, adding that 44 percent of TV households watched IPL-13 Live, with a peak in viewership for HD channels.## The 13th edition of IPL opened on September 19 with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in the first match held at United Arab Emirates (UAE). The opening match witnessed a viewership of 52 million impressions (29 percent higher than 2019) and was watched by 158 million viewers (21 percent higher than 2019), reported IANS.## On the other hand, after a hugely successful season 13, Bigg Boss returned with season 14 on October 3. With Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan returning as a host, the contestants roster included Eijaaz Khan, Nikki Tamboli, Pavitra Punia, Abhinav Shukla, Rubina Dilaik, Jasmin Bhasin, Jaan Kumar Sanu, Rahul Vaidya, Nishant Singh Malkani, Shezaad Deol, and Sara Gurpal. Star contestants of previous editions - Sidharth Shukla, Hina Khan, and Gauahar Khan, joined as Toofani Seniors.## Reportedly, the show failed to make it to the top five in the opening week (October 3 to 9). In the Hindi Speaking Markets (Urban), the viewing minutes in billions for the launch week of season 14 was 3.1. As compared to previous seasons, this is better. The season 13 sum was 2.5, season 12 was 2.6, and season 11 was 2.## In the Hindi Speaking Market (Urban and rural), the launch week registered 3.9 billion viewing minutes. Season 13 and 12 had garnered 3.4, and season 11 was 2.5.## Though the TRP for Bigg Boss 14 isn't that bad, the show is expected to pick the pace once IPL ends on November 10. Superstar Salman Khan on Thursday said the coronavirus lockdown was "stressful" for him as he had to take a forced break of nearly half a year which is the longest he has been away from work. At a virtual launch event of Colors TV, Salman Khan announced the Bigg Boss 14 which is starting from October 3. ## "My biggest frustration is this that last six months I have not worked. I have never taken such a long break in 30 years, which I was forced to take this year. Ever since I did 'Maine Pyar Kiya' and began working, every year I try and take a break from 25th December to 3rd January. But ever since I started doing Bigg Boss over the last 10 to 12 years, I would work a few days even in my holidays but I am happy doing that", Salman said.## This year, Salman Khan will be taking a pay cut for hosting the show in order to ensure every crew member gets their due payment. The actor spoke about this while talking to Abhishek Rege, CEO of Endemol Shine India.## When Salman asked Abhishek Rege, "We are paying full salary to everyone?", he replied, "We are paying salary. Obviously, you might not see huge increments, but we are paying full salary to people".## To this, Salman responded: "Very good. What about mine? Doesn't matter. New Delhi, April 28 (IANS) No househelp and no option to step out have made many feel like being locked up in the "Bigg Boss" house. But former "Bigg Boss" contestant Hina Khan says that participating in the reality show and experiencing the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown have nothing in common.## The reality show, an Indian version of international series "Celebrity Big Brother", features celebrities locked inside a house for months under constant camera surveillance, without any gadgets or luxury.## "The 'Bigg Boss' house and this quarantine phase are poles apart in regards to any kind of comparison. There is no tactic I am using right now," Hina told IANS.## Unlike the show where the contestants have to be away from their loved ones, Hina is living with her family in Mumbai right now and is feeling fortunate.## "I am so happy to have them by my side during these tough times," said the "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai" actress.## Like others, she is also doing household chores and keeping herself entertained with engaging content online.## "From cooking to cleaning to working out to watching stuff online, I have been diverting my mind with things that are positive and productive.
