Jessica Henwick Almost Quit Acting Before Landing 'Matrix' Role

London, Dec 30 (IANS) Actress Jessica Henwick has shared that she was in a "weird space" prior to finding stardom and almost gave up on her acting dreams just before taking on the role of Bugs in 'The Matrix Resurrections'.## She said: "I just took a second to think, 'Am I doing this because I still want to do it and I love it, or am I doing this because it's what I'm used to?' And so, I stopped and I decided to get out of town and I bought a one-way ticket to France. And then, I just started walking".## The 'Knives Out 2' star took herself on a 40-day hike in an effort to clear her head when in-between acting roles, just before receiving the offer to star alongside Keanu Reeves in the latest 'Matrix' movie, reports femalefirst.co.uk.## She told Film: "I just started hiking and I was halfway through a 40-day hike. I turned on my phone, it was near my birthday and I wanted to tell everyone I was alive, and I got an email saying, 'Would you like to audition for the Matrix?' And I just said no, because I hadn't finished the hike and I hadn't come to an answer yet of what I wanted to do in my life.## "I turned it down. (So I) made a self-tape, flew to America a couple of days later, tested with Yahya (Abdul-Mateen II, who plays a "completely different" version of Morpheus in 'The Matrix Resurrections'), and had the phone call from (director) Lana Wachowski a few days after that".## Meanwhile, Henwick recently revealed she took a part in 'Knives Out 2' so she could study Rian Johnson's filmmaking style.## She will appear in the murder mystery sequel and admits that she was desperate to get his advice as she was helming a short film at the time.## She said: "The main reason I really signed on was that I actually wanted to study him. I was directing a short film ('Bus Girl') at the same time, which he very kindly was able to take a break in the schedule for me to fly home, shoot and then fly back to set.## "So he let me shadow him on and off throughout production, and he gave me directing advice. So it was just the best time".## Henwick explained how she has been a fan of Rian since watching his directorial debut 'Brick' during a film class and revealed that the director was "morally obliged" to cast her in the 'Knives Out' sequel after she was cut from his film 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'.## The 'Underwater' actress recalled: "When I was a teenager, I watched 'Brick' in school and I loved it. So I wrote (Rian Johnson) a fan email, and he never responded.## "Cut to seven years later, I'm in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', and I'm meant to go back to 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'. But Rian cuts me out of the project!"## She continued: "Cut to this year, I finally got sent this script and I was like, 'Put me in coach. Give me a Zoom. I don't care if I get it. I just want to speak to Rian'. So I revealed all of this to him. I was like, 'I have a bone to pick with you!' Los Angeles, Dec 30 (IANS) Two-time Grammy Award winner LL Cool J has pulled out of this year's 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2022' after testing positive for Covid-19. ## The special, which is marking its 50th anniversary this year, is still moving forward as planned with hosts Seacrest and Liza Koshy, but will have to make an adjustment due to the hip-hop star's absence, reports variety.com. ## "I know it's disappointing to the millions of fans but my test came back positive for Covid, which means I'll no longer be able to perform as scheduled at 'New Year's Rockin' Eve,'" LL Cool J said in a statement. ## He added: "We were ready and I was really looking forward to ringing in 2022 in my hometown in a special way, but for now I wish everyone a healthy and happy new year. Dwayne Johnson turns down Vin Diesel's invitation to rejoin 'Fast & Furious'

Los Angeles, Dec 30 (IANS) Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson has publicly declined 'Fast & Furious' series actor Vin Diesel's request to rejoin the action franchise for its upcoming 10th mainline entry. ## In November, Diesel extended an invitation to Johnson on Instagram, imploring the latter to reprise his role as secret agent Lucas Hobbs for the next entry in the series, reports variety.com. ## "The world awaits the finale of 'Fast 10'," Diesel wrote. ## He added: "As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don't send well wishes but the time has come. Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return," Johnson explained. ## "Vin's recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn't like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker's death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding." ## However, Johnson went on to express his well wishes for the 'Fast & Furious' family ahead of their next, and ostensibly penultimate, outing. ## "My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible franchise with gratitude and grace," Johnson said. ## He added: "It's unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I'm confident in the 'Fast' universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience. Issa Rae calls music business 'the worst industry I have come across'

But rather than come off as thrilled about branching out into another industry, Rae is making it sound like she's entered a den of vipers, reports variety.com. ## Asked if the music business is "a place where good ideas flourish", Rae said: "Absolutely not." ## "It's probably the worst industry I've ever come across," she told the Los Angeles Times' Mikael Wood in a Q&A about her personal and professional experiences with music. ## "I thought Hollywood was crazy," Rae continued. ## "The music industry, it has to start all over again. There are lots of conflicts of interest. Archaic mentalities. Villains and criminals! It's an addiction industry, and I really feel for artists who need to get into it... It was something shocking to discover," she said. ## Rae did not get into her dismay with the music business beyond generalities but indicated her feelings were based on a combination of her own experiences setting up soundtracks and hearing from artists about what they deal with on a regular basis. ## "I do not want to be too specific, but even with making our own appointments (for soundtracks) with labels or artists, it would be so intricate. And to find out how artists were treated on other labels ... When I myself am a creator and know what I want in relation to a relationship with a production company or a producer, I would like to think that we are more artist-friendly than much of other brands and companies out there. I want to renew things." ## Rae also knocked the Grammys in the interview and singled out one record in particular she thought had been unfairly snubbed. ## "What really bums me out -- and this aligns with Hollywood -- is the way that music is rewarded. When I think about the Grammys and these other systems that are designed to reward artistic creativity and uplift artists, I just feel like, 'Y'all don't get it. What are you rewarding?' ## "This is dumb, but I'll say it anyway: A song like (Wizkid's) 'Essence' -- just absolutely a powerhouse, and yet could not be properly acknowledged by the institution that is supposed to celebrate the best in music -- that trips me out. To see Black people and our contributions to music not celebrated in the way they should be -- I mean, these aren't institutions for us.a ## Wizkid's 'Essence' was nominated for a Grammy for best global music performance, but no record of the year. Asked about the omission in a recent interview with Billboard, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said: "It is a great record. He's a very talented artist. 'Big Little Lies' director Jean-Marc Vallee dies at 58

Los Angeles, Dec 27 (IANS) Jean-Marc Vallee, the Quebecois director of films, including 'Dallas Buyers Club' and TV projects such as 'Big Little Lies', died at his cabin in Canada. He was 58. ## The cause of death was not immediately known, reports variety.com. ## His producing partner, Nathan Ross, said in a statement: "Jean-Marc stood for creativity, authenticity and trying things differently. He was a true artist and a generous, loving guy. Everyone who worked with him couldn't help but see the talent and vision he possessed." ## "He was a friend, creative partner and an older brother to me. The maestro will sorely be missed but it comforts knowing his beautiful style and impactful work he shared with the world will live on." ## Vallee earned an Oscar nomination for best editing for 2013's 'Dallas Buyers Club', which won Oscars for Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey. The film was based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, an AIDS patient who smuggled pharmaceutical drugs into Texas and distributed them to fellow AIDS patients through the 'Dallas Buyers Club'. ## The next year, he directed 'Wild' starring Reese Witherspoon. ## He continued to work with Witherspoon on the series 'Big Little Lies', for which he won the Emmy for directing a limited series, movie or special. ## His next project was another suspenseful mini-series based on a popular book, 'Sharp Objects'. ## "Jean-Marc Vallee was a brilliant, fiercely dedicated filmmaker, a truly phenomenal talent who infused every scene with a deeply visceral, emotional truth," said a statement released by HBO. ## "He was also a hugely caring man who invested his whole self alongside every actor he directed. We are shocked at the news of his sudden death, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his sons, Alex and Emile, his extended family, and his longtime producing partner, Nathan Ross." ## Born in Montreal, Vallee studied film at the Universite du Quebec. Los Angeles, Dec 27 (IANS) Hollywood star Tom Holland is getting the last laugh on haters who think he's too short to date Zendaya. ## The 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' actor was spotted liking a post claiming "short men have more sex" after being trolled over his height, reports aceshowbiz.com. ## The 25-year-old actor has caught the attention of his fans after he cheekily liked a post about sex by Lad Bible on Instagram. ## The post, shared on December 23, featured an image of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito from the 1988 film 'Twins' alongside a tag that read: "According to science, short men have more sex." ## When Holland's hilarious Instagram gesture was captured and shared by CommentsByCelebs, his fans quickly swung into action in the comments section to share their thoughts. Two More BTS Members Test Covid-Positive

Seoul, Dec 26 (IANS) BTS' vocalist Jin and rapper RM have tested positive for the coronavirus, their management agency has said. The announcement, according to Yonhap, came a day after the agency, Big Hit Music, confirmed that Suga, another member of the seven-member K-pop superband, has been infected with the virus. ## "RM and Jin were confirmed virus-positive," the agency said, adding that RM is not showing any symptoms in particular, but Jin has a slight fever. They are undergoing treatment at home in compliance with instructions from health authorities, the agency said. ## The members returned home on Friday after visiting Los Angeles on November 27-28 and earlier this month on a concert schedule. Both RM and Jin had tested negative in earlier diagnostic tests, the agency added. ## Interestingly, the three members completed their second rounds of Covid vaccinations in late August, Big Hit Music said, and none of them had contact with each other or other BTS members. But he doesn't know what it's like because he's never made one." ## He went on to say: "The way I break down the character, the way the director etches out the arc of the story and characters, it's all the same, just done on a different scale. BTS' Suga tests positive for Covid after returning from US
