Producer Jon Landau Reveals A Major Plot Detail Of Avatar 2

Mumbai, December 9 - The sequel to the highest-grossing film of all-time "Avatar" is nearly upon us after almost 13 years. It has been a long wait for the fans to experience the next chapter of this sci-fi epic and the world of Pandora. ## A sequel to a blockbuster film doesn't often take too much time to get on the floors. However, in the case of "Avatar", a lot of time was down to writing not one but four scripts for the planned series of sequels up to Avatar 5. Producer Jon Landau told Total Film magazine as part of its huge 2022 preview that "The scripts are the blueprint from which we work". ## "So a large portion of our time was writing, with the challenge that each of those four scripts had to individually resolve itself in a story that concludes with a big emotional resolution – but when you look at them as a whole, the connected story arc of all four movies creates an even larger epic saga", he added. ## Meanwhile, the producer further revealed some of the first "Avatar 2" plot details. He revealed that Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are now parents. James Cameron, who returns as director, has specifically written the script of "Avatar 2" taking the Sully family at the center stage. ## "I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim [Cameron] always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre. And if you think about this, there's really no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?" explains Landau. ## The Sullys' idyllic life is disrupted when the RDA mining operation returns to Pandora, forcing Jake to take the family to "what is perceived as a safe harbor" at the reef. "And when you get to the reef, there's a clan we call the Metkayina", continues Landau. "The Sullys are no longer in the environment that they know, the rainforest. They become the fish out of water. They become the fish out of the water both culturally and just environmentally".## The sequel stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald, reprising their roles from the original film, with Sigourney Weaver returning in a different role. Titanic Director James Cameron Details The Greatest Spider-Man Movie He Never Made

Mumbai, December 8 - Director James Cameron has helmed just 4 movies in the last 25 years and two of those - "Titanic" (1997), "Avatar" (2009), are among the highest-grossing films of all time. Even before Titanic, he directed films like "Aliens" (1986), and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991), which hold a special place in the cinematic world. ## However, despite being at the peak of his powers in the 90s, Cameron didn't get the opportunity to direct a Spider-Man movie, which he calls the "greatest film he never made". Cameron wrote about the Spider-Man film he wanted to make, in a book titled Tech Noir: The Art of James Cameron. He attempted to make a Spider-Man movie before the character made his big-screen debut with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movie in 2002. ## Cameron told Screen Rant, as part of a roundtable promoting the book, that his version of Spider-Man was going to be "very different". "The first thing you've got to get your mind around", Cameron told Screen Crush, "is it's not Spider-Man. He goes by Spider-Man, but he's not Spider-Man. He's Spider-Kid. He's Spider-High-School-Kid. He's kind of geeky and nobody notices him and he's socially unpopular and all that stuff".## Cameron saw the film as "a metaphor for puberty and all the changes to your body, your anxieties about society, about society's expectations, your relationships with your gender of choice that you're attracted to, all those things", he added. The Oscar-winning filmmaker's Spider-Man movie would have had "a kind of gritty reality to it" as he wanted the story to take place in the real world rather than something mythical like Gotham City.## "I wanted to make something that had a kind of gritty reality to it. Superheroes in general always came off as kind of fanciful to me, and I wanted to do something that would have been more in the vein of Terminator and Aliens, that you buy into the reality right away. So you’re in a real world, you're not in some mythical Gotham City. Or Superman and the Daily Planet and all that sort of thing, where it always felt very kind of metaphorical and fairytale-like".## "I wanted it to be: It's New York. It's now. A guy gets bitten by a spider. He turns into this kid with these powers and he has this fantasy of being Spider-Man, and he makes this suit and it's terrible, and then he has to improve the suit, and his big problem is the damn suit. Things like that. I wanted to ground it in reality and ground it in universal human experience. I think it would have been a fun film to make", he added. ## He further revealed that his version of the superhero film was never off to the ground because the company he requested to buy the rights of the film went bankrupt. He even attempted to save it by going to 20th Century Fox and telling them to pick it up, but the company didn't want to get into a fight with Sony who, "had some very questionable attachment to the rights".## Meanwhile, Cameron is currently directing "Avatar 2", which is scheduled to release in December 2022. Spider-Man: No Way Home Tracking For Potential $500M Opening Weekend At The Global Box Office

Mumbai, December 7 - Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is still 10 days away from its worldwide release but it is already giving pre-covid level vibes as far as box office is a concern. The Tom Holland-led third MCU "Spider-Man" flick is beating all the expectations and creating pre-sales records in several key markets. ## As reported previously, "No Way Home's" huge demand caused crashes of the ticketing websites in the US and some of the markets. The Jon Watts-directed installment has set all-time records in multiple markets for the first 24 hours, for example, it broked pre-sales records in the US within 2 hours of opening tickets for sale.## "Spider-Man: No Way Home" reportedly has already sold around $60M in pre-sales tickets in the domestic market (North America). According to Box Office Pro, the film is tracking to open between $190M and $240M over the opening domestic weekend, including $40 million on the first day, without previews. The latest projection has improved significantly as compared to the previous one, which predicated an opening of $135M-$185M.## The superhero film is looking equally strong in overseas markets. According to Deadline, Brazil's advances are 5% over Avengers: Endgame at the same point; Poland is showing the best presales since Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker; Portugal passed No Time To Die's total presales in three days, and Australia and Turkey are on par with Endgame.## In Mexico, the movie generated $7 million during the first 24 hours tickets were available last week. That's a new milestone, coming in 40% above Avengers: Endgame. With international developments, "No Way Home" might even manage a $250M opening outside the US, taking the worldwide start of a potential $500M, that too without China, Japan, and various other key markets. ## In India, "No Way Home" debuts on December 16, and with strong buzz around, it is set to go bonkers at the box office. It will challenge the domestic biggie, "Pushpa: The Rise", featuring Telugu superstar Allu Arjun. Two siblings battled for the throne of Egypt.## After winning that internal struggle by appealing personally to Caesar, Cleopatra had a complicated relationship with Rome, becoming the lover of Caesar and later Marc Antony. The latter alliance would become the undoing of both Antony and Cleopatra.## "Cleopatra" is definitely a massive project Skogland has bagged. The movie has the potential to be a mega-hit. Canadian Singer Drake Withdraws Two Grammy Nominations Due To Unknown Reasons

Los Angeles, December 7 - Canadian singer Drake has decided to withdraw his two Grammy nominations. While the reason behind the withdrawal is not known yet, Variety reported the 35-year-old artist withdrew his two nominations after consultation with his management.## Drake got nominations for Grammys with four others for Best Rap Album, for 'Certified Lover Boy', and for Best Rap Performance, for his song 'Way 2 Sexy' (featuring Future and Young Thug). ## Some have speculated that Drake's decision of withdrawing from nominations might have something to do with him being named in lawsuits surrounding the tragedy at the Astroworld festival in Houston last month, where 10 people died when the crowd rampaged during headliner Travis Scott's set, which featured a guest appearance from Drake.## Meanwhile, the withdrawal marks the latest chapter in the Canadian singer's long, contentious relationship with the awards show. Box Office: 'Dune' Becomes Warner Bros.' Second Day-And-Date Release To Gross $100M Domestically

Los Angeles, November 28 - A big box office win for Warner Bros. as Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi film "Dune" touched the $100 million domestic mark. It also becomes the studio's second day-and-date release in theaters and on HBO Max to reach the milestone during the covid-19 pandemic. ## Released on October 21, "Dune" took 35 days to reach $100 million domestically. It is part of Warner Bros.' controversial theatrical-day-and-date HBO Max 2021 strategy. Earlier, Warner/Legendary's "Godzilla vs. Kong", had reached the milestone, it, however, took 12 weekends to reach there. "Godzilla vs. Kong" was also the first Hollywood film to reach $100 million in North America during the pandemic. ## Dune was on HBO Max during its first 31 days in theaters. It's now exclusively theatrical, currently playing in 1,312 theaters with a Thanksgiving weekend outlook of $2.26M over three days and $3.2M since Wednesday which will bring its U.S./Canada box office total to $102.4M by Sunday. It will also surpass "Godzilla vs. Kong" total domestic gross of $100.5 million to become Warner's biggest hit of 2021. ## Internationally, where it is playing exclusively in theaters, "Dune" has grossed $270 million so far, taking its total worldwide haul to $370 million. It may not cross "Godzilla vs. Kong's" total worldwide gross of $467.8 million, but a $400 million globally will be a massive result for the studio.## Happy with the box office outcome and HBO Max streaming, Warner Bros.' has already green-lit a sequel to this epic sci-fi, based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Over the last few decades, Dune has been regarded by most critics and fans of the novel as impossible to realize on film. But, a lot of people who had never read the book, but were curious, went out and took a chance on the sci-fi epic. ## Meanwhile, Denis Villeneuve always wanted "Dune's" exclusive theatrical release. He even criticized Warner Bros.' decision to send the film on HBO Max. In a Variety column on Dec. 10 last year, Villeneuve wrote, "With this decision, AT&T has hijacked one of the most respectable and important studios in film history. There is absolutely no love for cinema, nor for the audience here".## "It is all about the survival of a telecom mammoth, one that is currently bearing an astronomical debt of more than $150 billion", and that "streaming alone can't sustain the film industry as we knew it before COVID. Streaming can produce great content, but not movies of Dune’s scope and scale. Warner Bros.' decision means Dune won't have the chance to perform financially in order to be viable and piracy will ultimately triumph. Warner Bros. might just have killed the Dune franchise. Los Angeles, November 27 - Marvel Studios' latest superhero movie "Eternals" is playing in theaters and going strong at the box office, earning over $387 million globally. Mumbai, November 24 - China's war epic film "The Battle At Lake Changjin", which recently surpassed fellow Chinese film "Hi, Mom" to become the highest-grossing film of 2021 worldwide, has now taken over the title of a highest-grossing movie ever in China. ## Directed by Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui, and Dante Lam, "The Battle At Lake Changjin" dethrone the previous leader, 2017's "Wolf Warrior 2" through Wednesday (November 24). Lake Changjin currently stands an estimated RMB 5.693B ($890M) after 56 days in release. Wolf Warrior 2 had grossed an estimated RMB 5.68B during its entire box office run. ## Interestingly, both "Lake Changjin" and "Wolf Warrior 2" were led by actor Wu Jing among others. Wu Jing had also directed "Wolf Warrior 2". Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Zhao Lijian praised the achievement on social media, offering his "congratulations" to actor Wu Jing "for surpassing himself". ## "The Battle at Lake Changjin" is reportedly China's most expensive film ever made with a production budget of approx $200 million. The first film was released simultaneously theatrically and digitally on Paramount+ on November 10, 2021.## It has generated a little over $34 million at the North American box office. Though the company didn't provide any tangible metrics, Paramount says "Clifford the Big Red Dog" has become the nascent streaming service's most-watched original film to date. ## It should be noted that Paramount Plus rebranded from CBS All Access last March with limited cinematic offerings, so "Clifford" didn't have much competition to cement its place as the streamer's most popular new film.## According to Variety, the studio has not disclosed whether the 2nd installment will play only in theaters or simultaneously on digital platforms, like the original one. ## Based on the popular children's book series, "Clifford the Big Red Dog" follows 12-year-old Emily Elizabeth, who is gifted a little red puppy. Box Office: James Bond 'No Time To Die' Overtakes 'F9' To Become Highest-Grossing Non-Chinese Film Of Pandemic Era

Los Angeles, November 21 - Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond, "No Time To Die", is now the highest-grossing non-Chinese film at the worldwide box office. MGM/Eon/Universal's 25th Bond film, crossed "Fast & Furious 9" ($722 million WW) over the weekend for its total global box office collection of $733 million. ## Through last Sunday, "No Time To Die" became only the second Hollywood title to reach $700 million globally and the biggest Hollywood movie overseas in 2021, topped "F9". In total to date, the spy thriller has an estimated gross of $154M domestic and $579M at the international box office.## No Time to Die is released internationally by Universal and domestically through MGM's United Artists Releasing banner. The Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed opened in most overseas markets in September before it debuted in North America on October 8. Overall throughout its run, it scored the biggest pandemic opening weekend in 36 markets.## The United Kingdom is leading the overseas chart for "No Time To Die", grossing £95.2M or $128 million. It beats James Bond's "Spectre" to become the UK's 3rd highest-grossing film of all time. In China, the movie currently stands at $60.4 million after grossing half a million on Saturday there while in Australia, where it opened 9 days ago, grossed $13 million so far. ## Overall, "No Time To Die" is the third highest-grossing film of the pandemic era worldwide.
