Kangana Ranaut Transforms Into Former PM Indira Gandhi In The First Look Teaser of Emergency

Mumbai, July 14 - Bollywood Queen, Kangana Ranaut shared the first look teaser of her upcoming movie Emergency. Kangana plays the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, and the actress transformed herself into this epic role with perfection.## Apart from playing the role of the late former PM, Kangana is also directing and producing the movie under her banner Manikarnika Films Production. In the first look teaser, we see Kangana donning the look of Indira Gandhi, complete with spectacles and her starched cotton saree. ## In the teaser video, Kangana can be seen getting a call from the former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger, asking if American President Richard Nixon can address her as 'Ma'am' instead of the usual sir. This historical moment is often called the darkest hour of Indian democracy. The Emergency in India was a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when PM Indira Gandhi had a state of emergency declared across the country. ## Talking about the movie, the shooting for the movie has already begun. Ritesh Shah, who also wrote Kangana's previous movie, Dhaakad, wrote the screenplay and dialogues of the movie. Lara Dutta recalls playing Indira Gandhi in 'Bell Bottom'

Mumbai, Dec 25 (IANS) Bollywood actress Lara Dutta, who plays the role of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Bell Bottom', recalls her experience of working in the movie which has its world TV premiere on December 26. ## She says bringing the character on-screen was challenging and full of responsibility. ## Lara says: "Working on 'Bell Bottom' was a challenging yet fulfilling experience. It was a huge responsibility to do justice to the role of Indira Gandhi ji and make it convincing to the audience. Ranjit Tiwari and I sat for hours and saw Mrs Gandhi's footage to get the nuances right. My father was her pilot so I grew up listening to her stories and how she spoke to everyone so that helped as well. And when I saw myself on screen, and the reactions that followed, it was all worth it." ## Directed by Ranjit Tiwari, the film stars Akshay Kumar playing the role of Anshul Malhotra whose life takes an important turn as he joins RAW and embarks on his very first mission as 'Agent Bell Bottom'. It also features Huma Qureshi as RAW personnel and Vaani Kapoor as Anshul's wife Radhika. ## The actress adds: "When Akshay first called me for the film during the pandemic and spoke about the character of Mrs Gandhi, I almost thought it was a joke because the entire industry was shut down and we didn't know how we would film. But taking up this part was a no-brainer. I wanted to do something different, and to portray Mrs Gandhi was an opportunity of a lifetime and a moment I will cherish forever. ## "This is my 13th film with Akshay Kumar in my 18-year career so that made it even more special. Lara Dutta Is 'Thankful' For Playing Indira Gandhi In Bell Bottom

Mumbai, August 4, 2021: Actress Lara Dutta is all set to take the audience by surprise in the upcoming espionage thriller film, "Bell Bottom". The actress is playing the former prime minister of India, the late Indira Gandhi in the film, led by superstar Akshay Kumar. ## Talking about playing Indira Gandhi in the film, Dutta called it an opportunity of a lifetime and great responsibility to portray an iconic figure on the big screen. ## "It is a great responsibility when you portray someone who's an iconic figure like Mrs. Gandhi. It was very important to get her body language right", Lara Dutta said at the 'Bell Bottom' trailer launch on Tuesday. ## Bell Bottom, directed by Ranjit Tewari, is set in 1984, the year that saw Operation Bluestar as well as Mrs. Gandhi's assassination. The film is about a hijack that took place during Mrs. Gandhi's tenure.## "Given the dramatic events that were unfolding, she was extremely centered. It was important therefore to portray her in that way. As a result, a lot of homework and research went into the role. Kangana Ranaut To Star And Direct Indira Gandhi's Biopic, Titled Emergency

Mumbai, June 24, 2021: Bollywood star, Kangana Ranaut is all set to direct his second after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which she co-directed with Krish. The actress had recently announced that she is collaborating with writer-director Sai Kabir for a political drama that revolves around former India Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. ## However, for a change, she has now decided to direct the film herself along with starring in the film in the role of Indira Gandhi. She took to microblogging app, Koo, and said that no one can direct the film, which is titled Emergency, better than her after working on the film for more than a year. ## "Pleased to wear director's hat again, after working on Emergency for more than a year I finally figured no one can direct it better than me. Collaborating with fabulous writer Ritesh Shah, even if it means sacrificing on various acting assignments I am determined to do it, my excitement is high. This is going to be a tremendous journey, my leap to another league #Emergency #Indira", Kangana wrote on Koo. ## Ritesh Shah, who has written films such as Pink, Kahaani, Kahaani 2, D-Day, Rocky Handsome, and others, would write the script of Indira Gandhi's biopic as well. He also wrote Kangana Ranaut's next film, Dhaakad. ## Speaking to Pinkvilla, Kangana added, "Yes. This is going to be my second directorial. Even though I wanted another film, which I am also ready with, as my second directorial. But, it so happened that I was very keen to bring Indira Gandhi's story which has never been brought to screen. I was very eager to bring it to screen. I am very happy to be the director of this film. Looking forward to bringing the iconic story to the silver screen". ## The period film will be mounted on a very big scale, and have actors portraying Sanjay Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi, Morarji Desai, and Lal Bahadur Shashtri among other prominent figures. Kangana will also be producing the film that will feature Emergency and Operation Blue Star. ## Kangana will next be seen in late actor-politician, Jayalalitha's biopic, titled Thalaivi.
