The total worldwide gross for the film currently stands at Rs. 189 crores. ## Produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment, "83" may be a disappointing outing, it has still surpassed many Bollywood biggies at the worldwide box office. 1983 heroes get emotional, observe minute's silence in Yashpal's memory

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IANS) Former India cricketers, including the captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Kapil Dev, Syed Kirmani and Kirti Azad, became emotional remembering their late teammate Yashpal Sharma during the screening of '83', the Kabir Khan film based on the countrys first - and perhaps biggest - cricketing triumph. ## During the screening here on Friday, attended by several of 'Kapil's Devils', there were misty eyes all across the theatre when Yashpal (played by Jatin Sarna in the movie) came on to blaze a 120-ball 89 that helped India defeat West Indies in the 1983 World Cup's opening game at Manchester. ## A minute's silence was observed in the memory of the cricketer who died of a heart attack on July 13 this year at the age of 66. ## Sharma's knock had helped India make 262/8 and go on to register a 34-run victory. That win in Manchester gave India the self-belief to go on and win the tournament. Yashpal played two more peerless knocks in the 1983 World Cup, scoring 40 against Australia and 61 against England. and aggregated 240 runs in eight games. ## The right-handed batsman, who was the backbone of India's middle-order in the 1983 World Cup, played 37 Tests (1,606 runs) and 42 ODIs (883 runs). He also played 160 first-class matches, representing Punjab, Haryana, and the Railways, and scored 8,933 runs. ## The last time 'Kapil's Devils' had come together was on June 25 when the entire team, including Sharma, had gathered in Gurugram for the launch of 'Opus', a limited-edition book that captures the historic 1983 World Cup win. ## Kapil broke down during a TV show in Mumbai when he was told about the demise of his teammate. "I can't accept it … I love you Yash," he had exclaimed. He then rushed to Delhi to pay his last respects. ## Jatin Sarna, who plays Sharma in the movie, had told IANS on July 13, the day the legendary cricketer passed away, that he wanted to see the cricketer's reaction to '83'. ## Recollecting his meeting with the cricketer, Sarna, who was last seen in 'Sacred Games', had told IANS: "It was my turn to know about Yashpal sir and when I met him, he was very cool. That evening, I just silently observed him. The way he talks and walks. The next day we went for practice and he started teaching me his batting style and how he played his shots." ## Talking about the cricketer's death, Sarna had said: "More than anything, I am sad and disheartened. These are only two words I can associate with it right now. I was not expecting this. I had the responsibility of performing well earlier as well, but now it is my responsibility to put him back on the map. He is way bigger than me, but it's my responsibility because people will go to the cinemas to see him." ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

IANS Review: '83' delivers an unforgettable experience (IANS Rating: ****)

Film: '83' (Showing in theatres); Duration: 163 minutes. ## Director: Kabir Khan. Cast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Neena Gupta, Boman Irani, Ammy Virk, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Adinath Kothare and Dhairya Karwa. ## IANS Rating: **** ## New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Director Kabir Khan's ‘83' is a recreation of a momentous event - the Indian cricket team's first-ever World Cup victory in 1983. Despite being predictable, the film offers an exhilarating and occasionally touching experience that has viewers leaving the auditorium caught up in an afterglow of excited patriotism. ## The film mounted like a brilliantly restored or recreated documentary, captures the three and a half months of - 'the may or may not win' drama, where the actors and few of the actual players seamlessly weave in and out of the narrative. ## The film focuses only on cricket and has everything that cricket fans could have possibly hoped for. The narrative- highlights and flashes the crucial matches and the moments in-between them, bringing back memories to the big screen after nearly 38 years. ## As you are transported back in time, you witness how the 'underdog' Indian team was treated with disdain, and despite all odds, how they emerged as winners. It is invigorating to witness the matches once again and your mood swings like Kapil's bat. You cheer for him when he creates history with a fabulous 175- not out against the Zimbabwe team, and your blood boils when you realise that the legendary game was not recorded on camera because BBC did not think it was important enough. ## What you see on screen is Kapil's charisma, the locker-room banter, the occasional tension and problematic behaviour between the teammates, the strategy they planned during the matches and above all, the anguish and thrills of the matches played during that unforgettable summer. ## Casting is another aspect of the film that could not have been better either. Ranveer with his prosthetic dentures- oddly resembles Kapil Dev, but he slips into his shoes effortlessly delivering a brilliant performance that tugs at the heartstrings. While he emulates the captain of the team, Saqib Saleem plays Mohinder Amarnath, Tahir Raj Bhasin essays Sunil Gavaskar, Jatin Sarna is Yashpal Sharma, Jiiva is K. Srikkanth, Harrdy Sandhu is Madan Lal, Nishant Dahiya is Roger Binny, Ammy Virk plays Balwinder Sandhu, Addinath Kothare is Dilip Vengsakar, Dhairya Karwa is Ravi Shastri, Chirag Patil is Sandip Patil. ## Boman Irani as the commentator Farrokh Engineer, Pankaj Tripathi as PR Man Singh, Neena Gupta as Kapil's caring and supportive mother, and Deepika Padukone as Kapil's wife Romi have their moments of on-screen glory. ## The film is astutely mounted, with ace production values. ## Overall, the narrative - like most of Kabir Khan's films - is unabashedly manipulative, but this one delivers a cinema experience one won't be able to forget about anytime soon. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Jatin Sarna: Whenever '83' releases, audience will cherish it forever

Mumbai, April 28 (IANS) Actor Jatin Sarna will be essaying hard-hitting middle-order batsman Yashpal Sharma in Kabir Khan's "83", the much-awaited sports drama narrating the story of India's first-ever cricket World Cup victory in 1983. The film was scheduled to open on April 10 but has been deferred owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Rumors that suggested the film could go directly for an OTT release have been quashed by the makers, and Sarna feels a film of the magnitude of "83" deserves nothing short of a big release.## "I think a film like '83' deserves a big release all the way because it is about a topic like a cricket that unites the nation. In a diverse country like ours, only cinema and cricket unite us. That was the reason why Kabir cast actors across regions. Whenever the film is going to release, our audience will cherish it forever," Jatin told IANS.## "83" stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, who led an underdog Indian team to the famous World Cup victory, and features Deepika Padukone as Kapil's wife Romi Dev. Aditya Rawal: I didn't get my debut film on a platter

Mumbai, April 22 (IANS) Young actor Aditya Rawal, son of the veteran Paresh Rawal, says although "Bamfaad" was a perfect debut film for him to prove his acting skill as a debutant, it wasn't easy for him to bag the project and that he had his share of struggle too.## "I am fortunate to have everything that I have dreamt of, but (I have it) after three years of struggle. Not that I have got everything on a platter, and perhaps that is why I value everything. I studied at NYU, auditioned, did theatre, and wrote stories. I have done everything that a struggler does in his initial days. So when finally my debut happened with ‘Bamfaad' I take it for what it is -- an opportunity to explore. I did not take it as pressure that comes along with a film, but as the chance to prove my skill as an actor," claimed Aditya, while speaking to IANS.## "Bamfaad" also features Vijay Varma, Jatin Sarna among others, and is streaming on ZEE5.## His co-actor Vijay mentioned: "Aditya is surely a talent to watch out. Being a Juhu brat, the way he played the character, Nasir Jamal, in the film, it looked convincing. He did not have the air of being the son of a veteran actor like Paresh Ji. We chatted for long films, and obviously the world cinema is our common interest area."## Aditya has studied creative writing abroad, so does it make him a better judge of a script? "Most definitely yes. I think studying scriptwriting and doing theatres in London and NYC has given me a better understanding of the craft. It will help me in the future to choose the right script. I understand the intention of a writer in the process of creating a character better," he replied.## Stay tuned...

Why April 10 will always be special day for Jatin Sarna

Mumbai, April 10 (IANS) Actor Jatin Sarna features in the new digital film "Bamfaad" and will soon be seen essaying former cricketer Yashpal Sharma in "83", Kabir Khan's film on India's first cricket World Cup win in 1983. While "Bamfaad" opened on Friday, "83" was originally scheduled to open on the same day before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the makers to postpone the film.## Still, Jatin is sentimental about the date. "April 10 will remain a very special day for me. We had announced that April 10, 2020, would be the release date of '83'. It is an ambitious project and one of the biggest films of my life. I got a chance to work with a superstar like Ranveer (Singh) and a director like Kabir Khan. But when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, everything changed. I was sad that one of the biggest films of my life was not releasing on the scheduled date. Then, around the same time, I got to know that 'Bamfaad' would release on April 10!" he said.## "That was surreal. You know life is not bad! This is a special day!" added the actor.## In "Bamfaad", he plays one of the friends of the three lads the story revolves around. The film marks the debut of Paresh Rawal's son Aditya Rawal, and also features Shalini Pandey and Vinay Varma, and has dropped on ZEE5.## Talking about working with Aditya, Jatin said: "He does not have the attitude of being the son of an iconic actor like Paresh Ji. I am a huge fan of his. But Aditya does not have any arrogance. He is like my younger brother. When we started the project, we had a budget constraint but he never had any extra demand. He is a very humble fellow! Also, in the film, he does not look like a debutant. He knows acting."## Stay tuned...

Paresh Rawal's son Aditya to debut as an actor in OTT film

Mumbai, April 3 (IANS) Veteran actor Paresh Rawal's son Aditya is all set to make his acting debut with the ZEE5 original film "Bamfaad".## The movie, directed by debutant filmmaker Ranjan Chandel, will also mark the OTT debut of "Arjun Reddy" star Shalini Pandey.## "I am glad that I got the chance to be a part of such a thrilling film. Though the driving force of the film is the love story, it has many more layers to it. I want to make my own mark as an actor in the industry, and it feels great to begin my journey by playing Nasir Jamal, a character that fascinated me ever since I read the script. I hope that people watch the film in huge numbers on Zee5, and I am eager to hear their feedback," Aditya said.## Presented by Anurag Kashyap, the film about passion, friendship, betrayal, loss, and love will go live on April 10. Set in Allahabad to a romantic volatile backdrop, the film promises to "bring out an unusual yet raw and edgy love story on the screen".## Talking about her character of Neelam, Shalini said: "Neelam is a bold and strong 24-year-old girl, but has that vulnerability to her which spoke to me instantly."## "As an artist, I look forward to projects that challenge me and this project really pushed me and I learned a lot while playing this part. 'Bamfaad' has a phenomenal storyline and it is getting the perfect exposure with a massive video streaming platform," she added.## Chandel asserts that "Bamfaad" is a heartfelt script to be brought to life on the screens.## "Aditya and Shalini are the perfect matches for the characters we envisioned. I still remember the casting director Taran Bajaj and I reached out to many experienced actors as well but Aditya and Shalini just made it feel apt and looked refreshing together. While we are currently living in challenging times with the pandemic, I feel like releasing this film on a digital platform like ZEE5 will give it the reach it deserves. This film is made with a lot of love and will touch many hearts," Chandel said.## On Friday, Kashyap presented the character poster of Nasir and Neelam on his social media. "Bamfaad" is produced by JAR Pictures and Shaika Films, and also stars Vijay Varma and Jatin Sarna.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.
