3 Years of Pathaan: The Beginning of Shah Rukh Khan 2.0 and Defining Moment For Bollywood

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, January 24 - It has been three years since superstar Shah Rukh Khan's spy action thriller Pathaan hit the big screens on January 25. Released at a time when the Hindi film industry was struggling and in recovery phase post-pandemic, Pathaan emerged as a game-changer, reviving audience confidence, and reigniting box office momentum. The film's success also marked a turning point in Shah Rukh Khan's career. After the failure of Zero (2018), the superstar took a back seat to reassess his choices and rethink his strategy before returning to the silver screen. His comeback was further delayed by the unprecedented global health crisis, COVID-19, which extended his absence and growing anticipation around his return. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) When cinemas reopened and normalcy returned, SRK mania swept the nation with Pathaan. The Siddharth Anand-directed action spectacle proved to be the resurgence of an icon of Indian cinema, presenting the actor in a larger-than-life avatar that connected strongly with mass audiences. The film grossed over 1000 crore at the worldwide box office, becoming the first Bollywood movie ever (without China) to cross the historic four-figure mark. More than just a blockbuster, Pathaan proved to be the beginning of Shah Rukh Khan 2.0, which aligned the superstar with the evolving tastes of the audience. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Following on the historic success of YRF's production, Shah Rukh Khan delivered an even bigger blockbuster with Atlee's Jawan, underlining his unmatched star power. He then rounded off an extraordinary 2023 with Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki, a comedy-drama that did good business and showcased a different shade of his stardom. Three years on, Pathaan remains one of the most defining moments in recent Bollywood history. It stands tall not only as a milestone in King Khan's career but as the film that changed the fortunes of Bollywood, firmly re-establishing the Hindi film industry as the driving force of Indian cinema. YRF Spy Universe Footfalls Ranking: Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan Leads, Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Trails Behind

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, September 12 - Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe has been one of the biggest crowd-pullers over the year. From Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, which shattered records back in 2012, to Shah Rukh Khan's record-breaking Pathaan, Spy Universe has proved its stamina in attracting audiences to theatres. However, just like a coin has two sides, Spy Universe too is showing the sign of fatigue after peaking with Pathaan in 2023. It has been over a decade since the franchise kicked off, but over the past few years, the cinema has evolved, which has started reflecting in the Spy Universe with the underperformance of Tiger 3 and War 2. The biggest downfall for the YRF Spy Universe came with the recently released War 2. The Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted failed to score even half the admissions of Ek Tha Tiger at the domestic box office, despite a much bigger scale and a bigger market. YRF Spy Universe Films and Their Domestic Theatrical Performance All Languages (Est.) Ek Tha Tiger, despite only releasing in Hindi, sold a huge 2.47 crores tickets in India, and is the third most-watched Spy Universe film in theatres after Tiger Zinda Hai and Pathaan. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, meanwhile, remains the path-breaker film in the series. It is not only the most-watched film with approximately 3.50 crores admissions, but also the first and the only film in the Spy Universe to gross over 1000 crores gross at the worldwide box office. The record is likely to remain intact until Pathaan 2, which is expected to start after the upcoming Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, and Bobby Deol. Stay tuned...

The Bengal Files Director Vivek Agnihotri Responds Strongly to John Abraham's Criticism of The Kashmir Files

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 22 - National award-winning director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is gearing up for the release of political drama The Bengal Files, which is the third piece in Agnihotri's Files trilogy after National Award-winning movies The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022). The upcoming movie revolves around the Calcutta riots of August 16, 1946, which were triggered after the All-India Muslim League called for Direct Action Day to demand a separate homeland. The movie has been in the media headlines for various reasons, which was expected. Recently, Bollywood star John Abraham shared his opinion on films like The Kashmir Files and Chhaava, and labelled them as the extreme right wing's ideological films, which he said are not good for society. He expressed that he would never make films like The Kashmir Files to "sway people in a hyper-political environment". Abraham's comments left many people furious, including director Agnihotri. During an interview with Padmaja Joshi of NDTV, the filmmaker, who worked with Abraham in 2007's sports drama Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, reacted to the actor's comment about The Kashmir Files. "John is not a historian, an intellectual, a thinker, or a writer. He has been making very, very jingoistic films like Satyameva Jayate, too. He made Diplomat and all those kinds of films. He must have said that for a variety of reasons. If you had told me some great historian had said this, I would have understood it. I don't care about what he's saying. When was India's atmosphere not hyper-political? When was it that Hindu-Muslim and caste issues never existed in India?" – Agnihotri The filmmaker further said, "He is known for driving motorbikes and showing his body and eating protein, he should focus on those things, film-on mein naa hi ghuse toh behtar hai (better if he doesn't get into talking about films)." Produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and I Am Buddha Productions in association with Zee Studios, The Bengal Files stars Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, and Mohan Kapur. It is scheduled to release on September 5th. Stay tuned...

John Abraham Criticizes High Actor Fees and Entourage Costs in Bollywood

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, February 26 - Bollywood actor and producer John Abraham has sparked a major debate in the film industry with his recent comments about actors charging excessive fees and the high costs of their entourages. In an interview, he called the current situation "ridiculous" and said that such expenses are hurting Bollywood. He believes that huge salaries and unnecessary spending on stylists, managers, and security are making it harder to produce good films. His remarks have quickly become a hot topic among industry insiders and fans. ## Abraham pointed out that some actors have entourages of 10 to 15 people, with stylists charging up to ₹2 lakh per day. He argued that these costs put too much pressure on film budgets, making it difficult to focus on storytelling. He also criticized actors for living in a "bubble" and not realizing how their fees impact the industry. According to him, Bollywood should prioritize content over glamour and unnecessary expenses.## Apart from blaming actors, Abraham also said that producers are part of the problem. He mentioned that many producers agree to pay actors high fees, hoping that star power alone will guarantee success. However, he believes this is not the right approach and that producers should focus on making good films instead of just securing big names. He emphasized that no actor can guarantee a film’s success anymore, and strong content is more important. ## As a solution, Abraham suggested that actors should lower their fees and instead take a share of the film's profits. This way, actors will be motivated to make good films rather than just taking large paychecks upfront. He also encouraged actors to be humble and accept that their value should be based on the film’s success, not just their personal brand. His comments suggest that the industry needs a major change in how films are made and financed. ## Abraham’s words have received mixed reactions. Some fans and industry figures agree with him, saying that Bollywood needs to control its spending. Others argue that actors bring in audiences and deserve high salaries. With Bollywood struggling to recover from recent box office failures, Abraham's statements may encourage much-needed changes. Whether the industry listens or continues with its expensive habits remains to be seen.## Stay tuned...

John Abraham To Team Up With Director Rohit Shetty

Mumbai, February 1 - Director Rohit Shetty has had mixed results post the COVID-19 pandemic. Akshay Kumar's 'Khel Khel Mein' and John Abraham-Starrer 'Vedaa' Opening Day Box Office Expectations

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 14 - Amid the juggernaut of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's Stree 2, this Independence Day weekend will see Akshay Kumar-fronted Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham's Vedaa will fight it out to come second at the box office. ## Akshay returns to his forte comedy genre in which he has scored many successes but all are not the same this time. The actor is coming after a series of unsuccessful films and to turn the tide, he will have hope for a change in fortune and hope the film turns out to be a really good one. ## As said, the opening of Khel Khel Mein is expected to be low considering the pre-sales which are better than Akshay's last film Sarfira but overall remains low. As of 8 PM on August 14, the movie has sold approximately 29K tickets with approx. 1 crore gross for the opening day.## The final opening day pre-sales of the movie are expected to be in the range of 1.50 crores gross which indicates the opening in the range of 4-5 crores net. The Independence Day holiday will provide some boost but that is unlikely to make much difference to the overall opening. ## Vedaa reunites John Abraham with director Nikkhil Advani since Batla House (2019) which was also released on August 15. While Batla House scored a very good opening of 15+ crores net 5 years ago, things are a lot different this time around. ## The pre-sales of Vedaa are almost similar to Khel Khel Mein though it has sold more tickets (39K as of 8 PM) so far. The movie's opening is expected to be in the same range as Akshay-starrer, however, the action genre might attract more footfalls in mass centres which can boost the collection a little more. ## There is a long holiday period coming up, but Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa will need a unanimously positive reception from the audience to make the most of it, unlike Stree 2 which will open, at least, 3X of the combined total of the other two movies. ## Stay tuned...
