Warner Bros.' 'Dune Part 2' and 'Joker 2' Budget Revealed

Los Angeles, February 22 - Warner Bros. Pictures has upped the ante for the upcoming sequels to sci-fi epic Dune, and musical psychological thriller Joker. The two films are easily the most hyped Hollywood films of the year and are expected to bring box office glory. ## The making of the aforementioned sequels, however, cost a lot of money to Warner Bros. which spent hundreds of millions to provide a stunning theatrical experience to the audiences as the studio sees them big money spinners. ## According to Variety, the budget of director Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux/Joker 2 has been increased 3X of the first film. While the first Joker movie (2019) cost just $60 million in the making, the sequel hit $200 million which is massive. ## The report says that Joaquin Phoenix is getting $20 million to reprise his role as Arthur Fleck / Joker, while Lady Gaga is taking home about $12 million to play Harley Quinn. The successor of the $1+ billion grosser is due to be released in October 2024. ## Before Joker 2 hits the big screen, Warner Bros. has another massive film Dune: Part 2 ready to release this March. The Denis Villeneuve's directorial is already flying high with critics' reviews as Rotten Tomatoes score the film is currently at mighty 97% from over 100 reviews. ## As for the cost, Variety reports that Dune 2 was made on a budget of around $190 million, which is $25 million higher than its predecessor which cost $165 million in 2021. The first movie made over $400 million at the worldwide box office which is not bad at all as the film was a day-and-date release on HBO Max. ## Dune 2 is scheduled to release on March 1st and it is currently tracking to earn at least $65+ million in the opening weekend in North America. ## Stay tuned...

Lady Gaga Gets A Huge Payday To Play Harley Quinn In DC's 'Joker 2'

Los Angeles, August 12 - Warner Bros. is believed to be in the confusion regarding its future timeline under the new leadership of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. The studio under Zaslav has spoken about building a 10-year plan for DC films, that would be similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together very effectively with Marvel boss Kevin Feige at Disney. ## Warner Bros., however, despite announcing its plans to expand DC Universe, has greenlit only Joker: Folie à Deux as a new film. The follow-up to the wildly successful 2019 "Joker", which grossed $1.07 billion globally, also has been set for October 4, 2024, release. ## The sequel of "Joker", meanwhile, will cost much bigger than the original film which was made in approx. $55M-$70M budget. According to Variety, both Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips will be paid a massive $20 million each to return to star and direct the movie. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has been roped to play the iconic Harley Quinn in "Joker 2", and she will be getting $10 million for the same. ## The final cost of making the movie is expected to reach $150 million, including salaries, combined with the cost of producing complicated musical sequences. It is going to be one of the costliest DC films, however, it is still cheaper than most superhero movies. ## While only "Joker 2" has been greenlit yet, several other DC properties have been in development as feature films, some for years — "Wonder Woman 3", "Superman", "Zatanna", and "Static Shock". Writer-director Matt Reeves is also on track for a sequel of "The Batman" with star Robert Pattinson. ## Stay tuned...

Margot Robbie Is Not Happy With The Casting of Lady Gaga As Harley Quinn In 'Joker 2'?

Los Angeles, August 7 - The casting of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker 2 seems to be not doing well with Margot Robbie who played this iconic DC role in many movies and made this one of the most popular on-screen characters. ## Margot Robbie, who is currently working on, Barbie, is reportedly not happy after the House of Gucci actor bagged the lead role in Joker: Folie à deux. A source close to the actor told OK! Magazine (via Geo TV), "Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel instead of Margot Robbie is a joke".## The casting of Gaga in the much-anticipated sequel came as a surprise to many in Hollywood, though her role in the movie was reportedly confirmed a long time back. It is said that Robbie is feeling nervous and insulted at the same time to get to know the fact that an attention seeker pop culture singer is replacing her to play Joker's sidekick and love interest. ## "Every real actor in Hollywood should be nervous that they are going to be replaced with some pop culture phenomenon who hasn't paid their dues", the insider added. "Margot isn't angry about the choice; she is insulted. This isn't about casting the most talented person for the role, but rather casting someone who gets the most press attention".## Meanwhile, the sequel of this psychological thriller film will be hitting theaters on October 4, 2024. Joaquin Phoenix, who scored his first Oscar for playing Joker, will be reprising his role in Joker 2 with Todd Phillips returning to direct it. ## Stay tuned...

Joaquin Phoenix-Led 'Joker' Sequel Is Being Planned To Start Filming In 2023!

Mumbai, January 30 - Todd Phillips-directed, "Joker" movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, made some big waves upon its release in 2019. From becoming the first R-Rated movie to gross $1 billion worldwide to win 2 Oscars from 11 nominations, the psychological thriller film eventually became the highlight of that year. ## In November 2019, The Hollywood Reporter had revealed the sequel of "Joker" was officially under the works at Warner Bros. studio with Phoenix and Phillips returning. But there hasn't been much development since then and many guessed that the studio might have dropped the idea of its sequel. It might also be because "Joker", despite all the accolades, received harsh criticism for its depiction of mental illness. ## However, according to the latest reports, "Joker 2" is very much on and Warner Bros. has even started the pre-production work on the sequel. According to Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros. has officially received the first draft of its script and the film will begin shooting sometime in 2023. Plot details are being kept in a cell at Arkham Asylum.## The Joker hasn’t shown up on the big screen since the Joaquin Phoenix film, but he has made a number of smaller-scale appearances, namely with Jared Leto reprising his role as the Clown Prince of Crime in "Zack Snyder's Justice League" cut. The character is also rumored to be appearing in the upcoming "The Batman" movie starring Robert Pattinson as Caped Crusader. ## Joaquin Phoenix had won the Oscar for the Best Actor for his role in "Joker". The movie had also won the Oscar for Best Original Score by Hildur Guðnadóttir. Apart from two wins, "Jokar" got nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, among five other categories at the 92nd Academy Awards. ## Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joker, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham in prominent roles.## Stay tuned...

From Joker to Voldemort, learn why people like fictional villains

New York, April 23 (IANS) What makes evil characters like the Joker or Lord Voldemort more interesting and likable? Researchers have found that people may find fictional villains surprisingly likable when they share similarities with the viewer or reader.## The study, published in the journal Psychological Science, indicated one reason for this shift is that fiction acts as a cognitive safety net, allowing us to identify with villainous characters without tainting our self-image.## "Our research suggests that stories and fictional worlds can offer a 'safe haven' for comparison to our darker selves. When people feel safe, they are more interested in comparisons to negative characters that are similar to themselves in other respects," said study lead author Rebecca Krause from Northwestern University in the US.## "For example, people who see themselves as tricky and chaotic may feel especially drawn to the character of The Joker in the Batman movies, while a person who shares Lord Voldemort's intellect and ambition may feel more drawn to that character in the Harry Potter series," Krause added.## To test this idea, the researchers analyzed data from the website CharacTour, an online, character-focused entertainment platform that had approximately 232,500 registered users at the time of analysis.## One of the site's features allows users to take a personality quiz and see their similarity to different characters who had been coded as either villainous or not.## Villains included characters such as Maleficent, The Joker, and Darth Vader. Nonvillains included Sherlock Holmes, Joey Tribbiani, and Yoda.## The anonymous data from these quizzes allowed the researchers to test whether people were attracted to or repulsed by similar villains, using nonvillains as a baseline.## Not surprisingly, people were drawn to nonvillains as their similarity increased. However, the results further suggested that users were most drawn to villains who share similarities with them.## The researchers believe that similarities to story villains do not threaten the self in the way real-life villains would. "Given the common finding that people are uncomfortable with and tend to avoid people who are similar to them and bad in some way, the fact that people actually prefer similar villains over dissimilar villains was surprising to us," said study co-author Derek Rucker.## The current data do not identify which behaviors or characteristics the participants found attractive.## Further research is needed to explore the psychological pull of villains and whether people are drawn toward similar villains in fiction because people look for chances to explore their own personal dark side.## "Perhaps fiction provides a way to engage with the dark aspects of your personality without making you question whether you are a good person in general," concluded Krause.## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.

When 'Joker' Joaquin Phoenix was almost cast as Batman

Los Angeles, April 18 (IANS) "Joker" star Joaquin Phoenix was almost cast as Batman way back in the nineties.## After George Clooney's 1997 outing as the caped crusader in "Batman & Robin" flopped, "Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky was tipped to direct a new Batman film, and Phoenix was his first choice for the role.## Aronofsky said that he wanted to re-invent Batman and suggested Phoenix as the leading role, reports aceshowbiz.com.## "The studio wanted Freddie Prinze Jr. and I wanted Joaquin Phoenix. It was a different time. The Batman I wrote was definitely a way different type of taking than they ended up making," Aronofsky tells Empire of his plans for "Batman: Year One".## He added: "The Batman that was out before me was 'Batman & Robin', the famous one with the nipples on the Batsuit, so I was really trying to undermine that, and reinvent it. That's where my head went."## However, Aronofsky's vision of Batman never got realized because the project never went into production.## Nearly a decade later after "Batman & Robin", Christopher Nolan would revive the caped crusader with "Batman Begins" in 2005, the first of his genre-bending "Dark Knight" series of blockbusters. Christian Bale essayed Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne in Nolan's trilogy.## Meanwhile, the title "Batman: Year One" has been used for an animation film, released in 2011 and directed by Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu.## While Ben Affleck played Batman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" and "Justice League", Robert Pattinson will be taking the role in Matt Reeves' upcoming film "The Batman".## Earlier this year, Phoenix bagged an Oscar for playing Batman's nemesis the Joker in Todd Phillips' 2019 hit "Joker".## For more and latest news about Hollywood, stay tuned with us.
