What Is MCC's Law 41.16?

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the arbiter of the laws of the game, have released a statement regarding Ashwin's 'Mankad' run out of Jos Buttler in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab. The statement states that the spirit of the game wasn't violated during the incident.## Ravichandran Ashwin, the captain of Kings XI Punjab, dismissed Jos Buttler by removing the bails at the non-striker's end even before releasing the ball. Buttler who was batting on 69, adjudged out because of the MCC's law 41.16 that deals with the issue of a non-striker leaving his/her ground early.## The law states, if the non-striker is out of his/her ground from the moment the ball comes into play to the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the bowler is permitted to attempt to run him/her out. Whether the attempt is successful or not, the ball shall not count as one in the over.## If the bowler fails in an attempt to run out the non-striker, the umpire shall call and signal Dead ball as soon as possible.## MCC found Kings XI Punjab's skipper within the law and said that the spirit of the game wasn't violated. Ashwin too said after yesterday's match in the press conference that he didn't plan to do 'Mankad' Buttler.## "Look, it was very instinctive. On my part, it was very instinctive. It was not planned or anything like that. It's there within the rules of the game. Well, the fair play award is not going to Mohali this year

Rajasthan Royals were cruising towards the victory with Jos Buttler at the other end was in full flow before a controversial decision changed the game in Kings XI Punjab's favor.## In the 13th over of the innings, Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling with Buttler at the non-striker end. Ashwin then stopped before delivering the ball even as Buttler walked out of the crease, Ashwin without giving him any warning took the bails off and affect the dismissal. It has been a landmark year for England in ODIs and emerged as the most favourite team to lift the World Cup to be held in England. Adaptability Is The Key To Success For Buttler

Rajasthan Royals, after playing tough few matches in the middle, back to winning streak with back to back wins. However, the scene could have been different if they didn't play with Buttler on top. ## But as it is said "better late than before". They finally found their right combination up the batting order. After promoted Buttler as an opener, Rajasthan Royals won two out of four matches they played. Royals move up to number six in the points table with 10 points in 11 matches.## Jos Buttler has been outstanding after promoted as an opener. In last four matches, he has scored 67(26), 51(39), 82(58), 95*(60). These scores are enough to prove that RR missed a trick by not promoting him up the order.## However, it was not all that easy for Buttler after tough he had played before. But he adapted himself with the role he had given after. Buttler is the perfect man RR in first 6 overs where he can make full use of field restriction. He always provided flying start to Rajasthan Royals in those matches.## However, his latest knock against the Chennai Super Kings was arguably the best among the lot given that it had several fluctuations as the situation demanded, and him coming out in triumph each time. Rajasthan Royals kept their playoff hopes alive as they beat Chennai Super Kings by 4-runs after Jos Buttler's stunning knock of 95* off 60 balls, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Friday (May 11). However, Buttler had some other idea. He provided RR a flying start despite losing two wickets in powerplay where RR scored 57 runs. He started with back to back three boundaries to David Willey on first 3 balls of the match. He followed this with 2 fours and a six to Harbhajan Singh in next over.
