Mumbai, March 1 - Chris Hemsworth, who usually plays a dashing, charming protagonist, is all set to headline the prequel of "Mad Max: Fury Road" as the main villain against Anya Taylor-Joy's Furiosa as "Mad Max: Furiosa". ## While "Mad Max: Furiosa" is still far away from its debut in theaters, with plans to premiere in 2024, in the book titled Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road', it is revealed that Thor star will be facing off Furiosa as primary baddie in the upcoming prequel (via Slash Film).## "Mad Max" has been a popular Australian film franchise though the last film in the series "Mad Max: Fury Road" didn't work out at the box office as The Hollywood Reporter calculated that the loss incurred by the film was around $20–40 million. However, the inclusion of Hemsworth in the cast will surely add extra fuel to the franchise this time around. ## "George saw Chris [Hemsworth] initially as a courtesy and then fell in love with the idea. He's going to play totally against type, the lead baddie. Unfortunately, we've got to find all of our other characters that aren't around anymore: a new Immortan, a new Bullet Farmer, and a few others", said P. J. Voeten, a producer and first assistant director on "Mad Max: Fury Road. ## In the movie, Taylor-Joy is playing a younger version of Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. Theron said the re-casting was "a little heartbreaking", adding that she is excited to see the character's story continue. Mumbai, September 12, 2021: The wait for the prequel of the 2015 Australian post-apocalyptic action film "Mad Max: Fury Road" - "Furiosa" is getting longer than expected. The much-awaited prequel isn't coming to theaters anytime soon as it has been delayed by a year to May 24, 2024, by Warner Bros. ## Touted to be Australia's biggest production ever, the spin-off was originally slated for June 2023 release with George Miller is returning to write and direct the film. The production of "Furiosa" will cost at least $350M AUD into the local economy and is expected to create 850 jobs. The filming is expected to begin next year in New South Wales and it will be produced by George Miller and Doug Mitchell. ## Anya Taylor-Joy, the "The Queen's Gambit" star, will be playing the title role of Imperator Furiosa in the prequel, instead of Charlize Theron who originated this role in "Fury Road". The prequel will also star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in prominent roles.## "Mad Max: Fury Road" is one of the most celebrated films at the Oscars. It got 10 nominations in the Oscars 2016 including Best Picture and Miller as director and went on win 6 Oscars. It was also commercially successful with a worldwide gross collection of over $375 million in a budget of around $160 million. ## The original Mad Max movie starred Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz, Abbey Lee, and Courtney Eaton.
