Tamil Star Dhanush Reunites With Director Mari Selvaraj After Blockbuster 'Karnan'

After Asuran, Dhanush's Latest Blockbuster Karnan To Be Remade In Telugu!

Hyderabad, April 30, 2021: Tamil superstar and highly talented actor Dhanush's latest release Karnan has taken the South Indian box office by storm and proved to be the actor's biggest blockbuster of his career.## Loosely based on the 1995 Kodiyankulam caste violence that happened in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, "Karnan" touched audiences' hearts who hailed the actor for choosing the hard-hitting subject and nailing them with perfection. ## And now, after its box office success, the movie is set for its remake in other languages. The Telugu remake is already in the works as Bellamkonda Suresh has reportadly bought the remake rights of Karnan and is on board as producer. B Suresh has picked his son Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas to play the lead role of Karnan. ## Interestingly, Dhanush's 2019 release "Asuran" which recently won the National Award for the best Tamil movie, has already been remade in Telugu as "Narappa" with Venkatesh Daggubati playing the lead role. Dhanush Thanks Producer Kalaippuli S Thanu For Announcing Theatrical Release Of 'Karnan'

Tamil superstar Dhanush's upcoming film, Karnan is set to release in theaters in April this year. Directed by Mari Selvaraj, the Karnan release announcement was made on Sunday, 31 January via Youtube. Now, as the movie is going to release in theaters, Dhanush thanks the producer of the film, Kalaippuli S Thanu for his decision and thinking about theater owners, and people related to cinemas. ## "Karnan releases April 2021 in theaters. A much needed encouraging news at the right time. Dhanush's 'Karnan' to feature three heroines

Chennai, 19 March (IANS) Tamil star Dhanush stars with not one but three heroines in his upcoming film "Karnan". ## Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan, "96" fame Gouri G. Kishan and "Maya" actress Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli have been signed up for the film, directed by Mari Selvaraj. ## Pictures from the film's set show Rajisha looking unrecognisable donning the look of a rural woman. The actress has had a dream run in Malayalam films last year with releases such as "June", "Finals" and "Stand Up", and "Karnan" marks her Tamil film debut. ## Gouri took to social media to talk about the film, which was known as D41 before it got an official title. "I am deeply humbled to announce that I am on-board D41 with the phenomenal Mari Selvaraj sir," wrote Gouri. She is also a part of actor Vijay's new film "Master", where she is said to be playing a student. ## Lakshmi, who has starred in films such as "Richie" and "Sivaranjiyum Innum Sila Pengalum", tweeted, on the auspicios occasion of Tamil New Year: "I am very happy to announce that I have joined the sets of #D41 #Karnan directed by the brilliant @mari_selvaraj sir. Very happy and excited to work with this amazing cast and crew." ## Last month, "Karnan" was embroiled in controversy when rumours flew that the film is based on the 1995 Kodiyankulam Maniyachi communal clash. The makers reportedly received threats to stop shooting that was underway in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi. Members of the political party Mukkulathor Pulipadai demanded that the shoot be cancelled. The party's leader, actor-turned-politician Karunas, even went on to say that the film is critical of a particular community, and its portrayal of history might create unrest in the region. Dhanush's next not based on Kodiyankulam caste riots: Director

Chennai, March 5 (IANS) Tamil superstar Dhanush's upcoming film 'Karnan' is not about Kodiyankulam caste riots, the film's director Mari Selvaraj has clarified, in a recent interview to the Tamil publication Vikatan.## Controversy erupted since it was speculated that ''Karnan'' is about the 1995 Kodiyankulam Maniyachi communal clash. The crew of the film was even threatened to stop shooting in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi or face consequences. Members of the political party Mukkulathor Pulipadai demanded that the permission for the shoot be cancelled. The organisation's leader, actor-turned-politician Karunas, even went on to say that the film is overtly critical of a particular community, and portraying a similar episode might disturb peace in the region. Party members also urged the police to arrest the director.## In an unrelated controversy, fans of late actor Sivaji Ganesan had earlier requested the film's producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu to change the film's title because Sivaji's 1964 mythological film had the same title.## Chandrasekharan, President of Sivaji Social Welfare Association, wrote a letter to the producer stating: "We all know that Karnan is legendary Sivaji Ganesan sir's classic film. Now we have come to know that your film with Dhanush is titled as Karnan. It would be great if you could add a prefix or suffix instead of using the exact title of Sivaji's classic film. It hurts the sentiment of ardent fans."## Although the producer still hasn't changed the film's title, Dhanush recently took to his social media account to declare that he has completed 90 percent of the film's shoot. He shared the news with a photograph from the film, which showed him holding a sickle in his hand. Fans were quick to notice that his look was similar to his recent hit "Asuran", and expressed their anticipation for ''Karnan''## Said to be an action entertainer, which is set in Tirunelveli, the film also stars Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan as the female lead, cinematographer-turned-actor Natarajan aka Natty and Malayalam actor Lal among others.## "Karnan'' will release in mid-2020.## Meanwhile, Dhanush's film by director Karthik Subbaraj titled ''Jagame Thandhiram'', has been wrapped. The film will release on May 1.
