Mumbai, November 18 - Releasing amid the burden of massive expectations, James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash has begun its international rollout on Wednesday, and the final box office projections suggest that the film is heading to open between Avatar and Avatar: Way of Water worldwide. According to Variety, Avatar 3 is poised to open with $90 million to $105 million from 3,800 theatres at the domestic box office, while it is expected to collect another $250 million to $275 million internationally for a global opening weekend between $340 million to $365 million. So, if the projection holds, Avatar Fire and Ash are set to open between two of the highest-grossing films worldwide. It is worth remembering that Avatar films, apart from opening to big numbers, are known for their incredible staying power at the box office. Avatar debuted to $77 million domestically and held onto the No. 1 spot for seven weeks, eventually climbing to $760 million in North America and $2.92 billion worldwide (including re-runs). Mumbai, December 18 - The worldwide box office continues to see a steady rise after getting a big jolt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is expected to hit the record post-pandemic $35 billion in 2026, according to Gower Street Analytics (via Variety). The theatrical analytics firm predicted that 2026 will be the highest-grossing year worldwide since 2019's $42.3 billion haul, surpassing 2023's $33.9 billion. It will be a 5% increase over current estimates for 2025, marking a second consecutive year of growth.
