Box Office: Doctor Strange 2 Breaks Into 100 Crores Net Club In India

Mumbai, May 13 - Marvel is the biggest non-domestic movie brand in India and it has been proved once again with the studios' latest superhero flick, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness". ## Directed by the maverick Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has crossed the prestigious 100 crores net mark at the Indian box office and becomes the second non-domestic film in 5 months to reach the figure. Earlier, Marvel/Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" did it with ease and went on to score over 260 crores gross. ## The sequel to 2016's movie has broken into the 100 crores net club in the first week itself with Rs. 104 crores for all languages. It has become the 8th Hollywood film of all time to reach the box office milestone in India and currently is at number 7, ahead of "Jurassic World" (101 crores). ## The original English version of the film has contributed the most to its total collection with approx. 75 crores net, followed by the Hindi version of approx. 25 crores. The other version hasn't contributed much with approx. 4 crores. ## The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun: Maverick' Debuts With Rare Perfect Score On Rotten Tomatoes

Los Angeles, May 12 - Tom Cruise's "Top Gun: Maverick" has debuted with a rare perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 44 reviews. Variety, in its review, has called "Top Gun", a barrier-breaking sequel. ## The sequel to Top Gun (1986), the upcoming movie will launch on May 27th in theaters in North America and other countries. Box Office: 'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' Hits $500 Million Worldwide

Mumbai, May 11 - Marvel Studios/Disney's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" has a shot to become the second film post-pandemic to reach the $1 billion mark at the global box office, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home". ## The Sam Raimi-directed movie has hit $500 million globally through Tuesday. Through yesterday (May 10), the superhero movie grossed $508 million, including $214 million domestically and $294 million overseas from 49 markets. It has topped $300 million internationally at the time of writing this piece. ## The Top 10 international markets through Tuesday for "Doctor Strange 2" are Korea ($32M), the UK ($27.8M), Mexico ($23.8M), Brazil ($17.6M), India ($15.5M), Australia ($13.7M), France ($12.9M), Indonesia ($10.5M), Japan ($10.3M) and Germany ($10.2M).## The Benedict Cumberbatch/Elizabeth Olsen-starrer movie had grossed $449.4 million worldwide over the opening weekend. The opening weekend collection included $262.4 million overseas and $187 million domestic. 'Doctor Strange 2' Off To Heroic Launch In North America As It Crosses $450M Worldwide

Mumbai, May 8 - The dominance of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe at the box office continues as the studios' latest superhero movie "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" is off to a heroic start in North America with $187 million in the 3-day opening weekend. ## The $187 million launch marks the 11th biggest opening weekend in North American box office history and the biggest of 2022, beating Warner Bros' "The Batman" ($134M). This is also the biggest opening for Dinsey since "The Lion King" ($191M) in 2019. The Sam Raimi-directed movie also came above the industry's 160M-180M projections. ## Interestingly, at the domestic box office, the "Doctor Strange" sequel outscored its predecessor's entire opening weekend tally in a single day. "Doctor Strange 2" raked in $90 million on Friday alone, while the 2016 blockbuster brought in $85 million between Friday and Sunday. ## Internationally, "Doctor Strange 2" earned a whopping $262.4 million from 49 territories, taking the global total to $449.4 million through Sunday (May 8). Disney will not release the movie in Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine while the movie is also unlikely to play in China. ## Meanwhile, India emerged as the 5th biggest international market for "Doctor Strange 2" with approx. $13 million (100 crores) gross. Chris Pratt Calls 'Jurassic World: Dominion' The End Of The Franchise

Mumbai, May 7 - Universal Pictures' upcoming science fiction adventure film, "Jurassic World Dominion" could be the end of the franchise, at least according to Chris Pratt. The sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, the upcoming movie is directed by Colin Trevorrow. ## Jurassic World: Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history's most fearsome creatures.## Pratt, who reprises his role as Owen Grady, said during a conversation with The Today Show that there's a measure of finality to Dominion that will surprise a ton of longtime fans of the franchise. ## "You know when you go to a fireworks display like the Fourth of July or New Years, there's always the finale? You're waiting for it, and then boom! And you're like, 'Oh! This is it! This is the finale!' I feel like the whole movie is that. It's 30 years in the making, it's the sixth Jurassic film, it's the end of this franchise", Pratt said. ## "Jurassic World Dominion" is the third Jurassic movie for Pratt, who first starred in 2015's "Jurassic World" movie. The actor recalled the time when the first movie in the franchise was released in 1990. ## "The first time I saw Jurassic Park, I was thirteen. I had no idea I was going to be an actor. If you would've told me that I would be doing this, there's no way I would've believed it. Los Angeles, May 6 - Marvel Studios/Dinsey's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" scored a remarkable Thursday preview with $36 million at the domestic (North America) box office. This is the biggest Thursday preview score for a Hollywood movie in 2022 and the 8th overall of all time. ## Directed by Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has been released in 4545 theaters in North America, which is the biggest release since 2019 and 5th biggest of all time. As compared to the recent top releases, "The Batman" was released in 4417 theaters, followed by "No Time To Die" (4407), and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (4336). ## "Doctor Strange 2" has been projected to score $150 million - $200 million in the opening weekend domestically. The numbers might go up with a strong 89% audience score on Rotton Tomatoes, though the critics' score is on the lower side with 77%.## Meanwhile, the first Doctor Strange opened to $85 million domestically in 2016, launching a new franchise for Marvel. Marvel Studios' Disney+ Series 'Ms. Marvel' To Release In Theaters In Pakistan

Mumbai, May 4 - Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero series on Disney+, "Ms. Marvel" is getting special treatment as it will be released in theaters in Pakistan. The announcement of the theatrical release of the series was made on the occasion of Eid by one of the directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy via Instagram. ## While Disney+ series are usually held for the streaming platform, "Ms. Marvel" is getting special treatment to celebrate the introduction of the first Pakistani Marvel superhero, Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani), into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the reasons to release it in theaters is also because Disney+ has not yet launched in Pakistan. ## Many people might be wondering how it will get a theatrical release, well, the makers have plans for it. Disney and Marvel will be especially creating a cinema format version of the six-episode series for Pakistan, split into three parts. The first two episodes will debut in theaters on 16th June 2022. Los Angeles, May 3 - Amber Heard's domestic violence allegations against ex-husband Johnny Depp have taken a huge toll on his career which is in doldrum since 2018. ## Depp's agent has now revealed that Depp was set to get a whopping $22.5 million to star in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean 6", but Disney dropped him from the movie after Amber Heard published an op-ed reviving her domestic abuse allegations, as per Variety.## Jack Whigham, who represented Depp at Creative Artists Agency and later at Range Media Partners, testified that the December 2018 piece in the Washington Post had a "catastrophic" impact on Depp's career. "After the op-ed, it was impossible to get him a studio film", Whigham testified.## Whigham also said that Depp had earned $8 million for "City of Lies", $10 million for "Murder on the Orient Express" and $13.5 million for "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" - all of which were shot in 2017. In 2018, the actor made $1 million for "Waiting for the Barbarians", and was set to receive $3 million for "Minamata".## He testified that the op-ed brought Depp's career success to a halt. "It was a first-person account coming from the victim. 'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness' To Be Not Played In Gaiety-Galaxy and Maratha Mandir

Mumbai, May 3 - Marvel Studios' upcoming big-ticket entertainer "Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness" is getting ready to be released in the Indian theaters on May 6 in English, Hindi, and Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. ## While the curiosity among the fans for "Doctor Strange 2" is sky-high, the movie might not be played in Mumbai's G7 multiplex and Maratha Mandir Cinema due to high ticket prices. Manoj Desai, executive director, G7 multiplex, and Maratha Mandir Cinema has refused to play the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer with high ticket prices. ## According to Bollywood Hungama, Manoj Desai told, "Vinay Choksey, who is the booker of Gaiety-Galaxy aka G7 multiplex and Maratha Mandir, told me that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness will be given to us only if we agree to increase the ticket rates. However, Mr. Arun Nahar, the managing director of our cinema, is not in favour of increasing rates by even one rupee for this film. He said that we'll happily play the film at the current rates and that we are not ready to inflate the prices".## It is not the first time Manoj Desai has refused to play movies in his cinemas due to overpricing. Earlier, he didn't release the Aamir Khan-starrer PK (2014) when distributors of PK had asked him to charge Rs. 150 and Rs. 250 from the public. At that time, the average ticket price was Rs. 80 and Rs. 100. ## The same thing arise when Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame" was released in 2019. At that time, Manoj Desai was asked to charge a minimum of Rs. 250 per ticket from the public in G-7 Multiplex and Maratha Mandir.
