Oprah Winfrey Producing Apple Documentary On Sidney Poitier

Los Angeles, Jan 9 (IANS) A documentary about the career and life of the late Sidney Poitier, the first Black man to win an Oscar, the Bahamanian thespian and diplomat, is in production at Apple.## A source close to the project has confirmed to variety.com. Oprah Winfrey is attached as executive producer for the Apple Original Films release.## Apple and Winfrey have been in production on the documentary for more than a year. Poitier's family is participating in the project.## The documentary comes from Harpo Productions and Network Entertainment. Reggie Hudlin will serve as a director. Hudlin's previous directorial credits include 90's films like 'House Party' and 'Boomerang', as well as episodes of TV series like 'The Last O.G.' and 'Black Monday'.## He is also a prolific producer across film and television, serving as a regular executive producer for the NAACP Image Awards since 2013. Hudlin directed the 2019 documentary 'The Black Godfather', which examines the life of music producer Clarence Avant.## Hudlin is also already executive producing two other projects for Apple TV Plus.## He will direct 'Number One on the Call Sheet', a documentary that examines the history of Black leading men in Hollywood. He is attached to a sister documentary about Black leading women, which Shola Lynch is set to direct.## Poitier, an accomplished performer, producer, and director and the first Black winner of the Academy Award for best actor died on Friday at the age of 94.## "To us, Sidney Poitier was not only a brilliant actor, activist, and a man of incredible grace and moral fortitude, he was also a devoted and loving husband, a supportive and adoring father and a man who always put family first," Poitier's family said in a statement.## "Although he is no longer here with us in this realm, his beautiful soul will continue to guide and inspire us. He will live on in us, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in every belly laugh, every curious inquiry, every act of compassion and kindness".## "His legacy will live on in the world, continuing to inspire not only with his incredible body of work but even more so with his humanity".## Stay tuned...

The TV mogul, Oprah Winfrey is continuing to support those in need amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in The USA that has been hit hard by the pandemic.## After donating $12 million to COVID-19 relief efforts previously in her "home cities" of Chicago, Nashville, Milwaukee, Kosciusko, and Mississippi, The Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation (OWCF) has donated additional $3 million to COVID-19 relief efforts in South Los Angeles, California.## The donation was presented to South LA Forward, a newly created coalition of three Los Angeles based grassroots organizations: SoLa I Can Foundation, SEE-LA, and the Watts Healthcare Corporation.## South LA Forward was established with the mission of committing to providing 200 tons of fresh food to feed 80,000 Angelenos and providing 200 scholarships to those who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. South LA Forward also aims to expand COVID-19 testing and primary care for South Los Angeles residents. ## Winfrey said in a statement: "As I continue to seek out ways to support underserved communities, I was struck by the unique multi-layered approach to effect real change to the systematic barriers of access to healthy food, quality health care, and educational opportunities", as stated by the People.com.## The United States of America is the worst-hit country by the COVID-19 pandemic. Los Angeles, March 1 (IANS) Talk show host-producer-philanthropist Oprah Winfrey took a tumble on stage during her motivational tour stop at The Forum here. ## Ironically, Winfrey was talking about balance before she suddenly tripped and came crashing down in front of her audience, reports aceshowbiz.com. ## "Wellness to me means all things in balance. And balance doesn't mean all things are equal or at peace at all times," the 66-year-old who donned a white pantsuit said before losing her footing and falling on the ground. ## "Wrong shoes!" she quipped. ## A stage assistant rushed to the stage to assist her before she stood up and decided to just ditch her shoes. ## "It's nice to be talking about balance and fall," she said. ## Among the audience were reportedly Winfrey's best friend Gayle King and Meghan Markle's mother Doria Ragland. Her longtime partner Stedman Graham reportedly attended the Saturday, February 29 motivational speech as well. ## Her special guest at the event was Jennifer Lopez joining past guests like Lady GaGa, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Michelle Obama.
