Top Gun: Maverick Takes Flight With A Career-Best Domestic And International Opening of Tom Cruise
Mumbai, May 30 - Tom Cruise has outdone himself, and that too with a long long margin. The Paramount/Skydance's actioner, Top Gun: Maverick, took off with a massive $252.70 million worldwide through Sunday. This is the biggest ever global opening of Tom Cruise's career on a like-for-like basis. ## At the domestic (North America) box office, the sequel to 1986's pic opened to the Cruise's career-best $126.7 million (Fri-Sun) also including $19.3 Thursday previews. The 4-day Memorial Day weekend reached $160 million. The opening of Top Gun 2 is almost double the War of the Worlds ($65M), which was the biggest opening for Cruise. ## Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the movie opened in 62 international markets on the opening weekend and grossed a spectacular $126 million, which is the biggest ever for Cruise, surpassing Mission: Impossible: Fallout by 28 percent, as per Deadline. Among the international markets, it scored the biggest opening ever in 32 markets for the actor. ## The Top 10 overseas markets of Top Gun 2 are as follows, through Sunday - 1. the UK $19.4M, 2. France $11.7M, 3. Australia $10.7M, 4. Japan $9.7M, 5. Germany $6.5M, 6. Brazil $5.3M, 7. Mexico $4.6M, 8. Italy $4M, 9. Hong Kong $2.9M, and 10. Taiwan $2.7M. At the Indian box office, the movie witnessed an upward trend over the weekend and scored $2 million in the opening weekend. ## The film stars Tom Cruise as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a test pilot, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer.
