Box Office: 'The Greatest of All Time' Becomes The Highest-Grossing Movie In Tamil Nadu

Chennai, September 29 - Thalapathy Vijay's action thriller The Greatest of All Time has slowed down at the box office, but not before emerging as a success and creating an all-time record in the home state, Tamil Nadu.## Directed by Venkat Prabhu, The GOAT has become the highest-grossing movie in Tamil Nadu, beating Thalapathy Vijay's Leo which grossed approximately 215+ crores in the state. It has crossed Leo's collection on its 25th day (4th Sunday). ## On its 4th Thursday (22nd day), The GOAT outgrossed Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1's 213 crores gross collection in the state. It has been a sensational blockbuster in Tamil Nadu as well as the overseas box office despite the mixed reviews. ## The AGS Entertainment production has grossed 448 crores at the worldwide box office, including approximately 292.25 crores in India and 155.75 crores overseas through 4th Saturday (24 days). It will be around 450 crores gross by the end of the day and is looking to finish its run at around 455 crores gross.## The GOAT is the 5th highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time globally, after Robot 2.0, Leo, Jailer, and Ponniyin Selvan - 1, and will finish with the same position. The iconic duo teamed up for the actor's 234th film, now titled Thug Life. ## The instant attention-grabbing title was launched on November 6 with an excellent first-look teaser. In the title video, Kamal Haasan can be seen donning thug-like cloaths and engaging in a combat fight against a group of assailants before the title of the movie flashed on the screen. ## Kamal Haasan is playing the role of a thug (Dacoit) while the makers have roped in a stellar cast to accompany him. 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' and 'Agent' Open To Contrasting Responses

Chennai, April 28 - Maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam's much-awaited period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 has been released in theaters today, and as expected, the movie opened to super positive responses from critics and audiences alike. ## The film, starring an ensemble cast including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others in key roles, had early morning shows due to the huge curiosity among the fans and the early responses indicated that the movie has exceeded the expectations. ## Despite being called slow-paced, the critics and audiences are hailing the intense drama and superlative performances of the lead cast. Mani Ratnam has once again done very well with his excellent direction and given enough scope to each and every key character to show their skills. AR Rahman's music seems to be the cherry on the cake. ## Overall, "PS-II" has been able to deliver what the makers had promised, and just like "PS-I", it should also do well at the box office. ## Quite contrasting to "PS-2", the long-awaited Telugu movie Agent starring Akhil Akkineni and Mammootty opened to forgettable responses from critics who are calling it one of the poorest films of the actors and director Surender Reddy. The audience response is also not encouraging which has made it tough for the movie to survive. ## "Agent" has been in production for the last three years as it got delayed multiple times due to the covid-19 pandemic. Unlike the response to the movie, the teaser and trailer got a good response which generated decent hype for the movie but the final content couldn't justify the sort of pre-release expectations it had, as per audience response. ## It is not that all is bad for the movie as the performance of Akhil and Mammootty is getting praise, but again, other departments didn't stand out. As per critics' reviews, the movie is let down by the poor writing, direction, and mindless over-the-top action. ## Overall, "Agent" has failed to make the long wait worth it, and it will find tough to get going at the box office. Director Mohan Raja Provides Exciting Update On Jayam Ravi's 'Thani Oruvan 2'

Chennai, March 6 - The action thriller Thani Oruvan (2015) is one of the most successful Tamil films that saw actor Jayam Ravi and director Mohan Raja teaming up. It was the last time when celebrity siblings in the Tamil industry came together for a film after delivering multiple hits together. ## In the past, the possibility of a sequel to "Thani Oruvan" was announced but the movie couldn't be launched. The duo of Jayam and Mohan have talked about reuniting for "Thani Oruvan 2" on multiple stages, and it seems, things are finally heading in the right direction. ## Last month, Jayam Ravi revealed that "Thani Oruvan 2" is taking to materialize, and now, director Mohan Raja has also himself confirmed the same. During the trailer launch event of "Soppana Sundari", Mohan Raja revealed that TO2 will definitely go on floors by late this year or in 2024. ## It is said that Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara will reprise their roles from the original film in the second part which is said to be produced by Vels Films International. However, the official confirmation is yet to be. ## "Thani Oruvan" was remade in Telugu as "Dhruva" with Ram Charan and Rakul Preet Singh as lead performers with Arvind Swamy reprising his role in Telugu. Indian Box Office Crossed 10K Crores Gross Collection For 2022 Movies

Mumbai, December 31 - It was a great year for the Indian film industry which witnessed 6 films crossing the 400 crores gross mark at the global box office, which happened for the first in Indian cinema in a single year. The total box office collection in India for 2022 films has also crossed the 10,000 crores gross mark. ## The domestic gross box office of 2022 was dominated by Southern Indian films with 12 South Indian films making it to the top 20 highest-grossing Indian films of 2022 list. Yash-fronted "KGF 2" remained the highest-grossing Indian film of the year with approx. 1210 crores gross in all languages, including approx. 1000 crores at the domestic box office. ## The 10,000 crores box office mark for 2022 films in India is set to be breached, thanks to the late strike by James Cameron's mega movie "Avatar 2" which is nearing 400 crores gross in India in all languages. The total collection this year witnessed a rise of approx. 200% from the last year and approx. 400% from 2020. The last two years were hit by the covid-19 pandemic. ## Total gross collection of 2022 movies (language-wise/approx.) - ## Hindi - 3800 Cr.## Telugu - 2200 Cr.## Tamil - 1810 Cr.## English - 900 Cr.## Kannada - 750 Cr.## Malayalam - 510 Cr.## Other languages - 250+ Cr.## The biggest film in Hindi was "KGF 2" which grossed approx. 515 crores while biggest Telugu grosser was "RRR" which made approx. 505 crores, Mani Ratnam's "PS-1" led the Tamil box office with approx. 260 crores, "KGF 2" was again biggest hit in Malayalam language with approx. 59 crores, and the biggest Kannada language hit was "Kantara" with approx. 190 crores gross. "Avatar 2" is dominated the English version in India with approx. 196 crores gross (so far).## The Hindi box office in 2022 largely benefitted from the dubbed versions of South Indian films, led by "KGF 2" and "RRR".
