WrestleMania IV, held on March 27, 1988, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, marked a turning point in the WWF (now WWE). This annual pay-per-view event, the fourth in the WrestleMania series, deviated from tradition in several ways. ##
For the first time, the main event wasn't a single match, but the finals of a 14-man single-elimination tournament. This twist resulted in "Macho Man" Randy Savage defeating "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase to claim the vacant WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Notably absent from the main event was Hulk Hogan, the WWF's biggest star at the time. ##
The undercard featured exciting matches, including a 20-man battle royal won by Bad News Brown, Demolition defeating Strike Force for the Tag Team Championship, and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake's victory over The Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship. ##

Everyone jumps each other as soon as the bell rings. Sam Houston gets tossed out by Danny Davis, and Sika gets the boot by a bunch of dudes at the same time. Bret Hart tries to throw Harley Race out, but Race ain't budging. JYD strangles Zhukov with the ropes for a bit. George Steele? Dude's just chillin' outside the ring, not even in the fight yet. Neidhart yells at Steele to get in there, but Steele just pulls Neidhart out instead, kicking him out of the match. Raymond gets dumped too. The Killer Bees? Gone. Bass tries to choke JYD, but JYD headbutts him back and throws him out. Even Steele gets a punch in on Bass outside the ring. Apparently, Steele got thrown out at some point but just doesn't care and won't leave. Zhukov throws Jim out. Davis gets tossed by one of the Young Stallions. Jim Powers is out too. Race and JYD trade headbutts like crazy, and JYD wins that fight. Volkoff, Zhukov, and Patera all get thrown out in the chaos. Jacques bites the dust too. JYD clotheslines Race right out of the ring.##
There's only four dudes left: Bad News Brown, Paul Roma, Bret Hart, and the Junkyard Dog. Brown wastes no time and throws Roma out with a back body drop. JYD holds Hart up for Brown to clothesline, but then JYD headbutts both Brown and Hart down. JYD's on all fours, headbutting everyone in sight! Brown grabs JYD's arm quick and teams up with Hart to take him down. Hart holds JYD while Brown punches him. JYD tries to fight back, but Brown lays him out. Hart and Brown high five each other, thinking they've got it in the bag. Brown even tries to be nice to JYD for a second, but JYD ain't having it. They double team JYD and throw him out of the ring. Hart and Brown high five again and show off for the crowd. But then, BAM! Brown hits Hart with a surprise kick out of nowhere. Brown punches and stomps all over Hart, headbutts him too. He smashes Hart chest-first into the corner and then throws him out of the ring to win the whole thing. ##

Ted DiBiase (with Virgil and André the Giant) vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan##
DiBiase dives out of the ring to avoid Duggan's rush. They tie up, DiBiase shoves Duggan into the corner, then lets him go clean. They tie up again, DiBiase muscles him to the corner again. Duggan blocks a punch and fires back. They trade blows before Duggan nails DiBiase with a belly flop that sends him flying over the top rope. DiBiase huddles with Andre the Giant and Virgil, talking game plan. ##
DiBiase climbs back in and claws at Duggan's eyes before chopping him down. He throws Duggan at the ropes, misses an elbow drop, and eats a clothesline for his trouble. Duggan corners him and unloads ten punches. He throws DiBiase to the other corner and charges, but DiBiase blasts him with a big boot. DiBiase bounces him off the turnbuckle and pounds on him. Then he nails him with a clothesline. DiBiase stomps on Duggan's head before climbing to the top turnbuckle for a flying elbow drop. He connects with his signature move, but Duggan kicks out at two. ##
Duggan fights back, but DiBiase rakes his eyes again. He throws Duggan at the ropes, but Duggan rolls him up for a two count. DiBiase whips him into the ropes again and folds him in half with a knee to the gut. He drops an elbow and goes for a suplex, but Duggan blocks it and slams him down with his own suplex. DiBiase climbs the ropes again, but Duggan punches him out of the air mid-jump. Duggan pummels him in the corner and follows up with a clothesline. He throws DiBiase at the ropes and connects with a powerful slam. Duggan goes for his finisher, but Andre the Giant trips him up. Duggan yells at Andre, who blasts him with a punch. Duggan is dazed, and DiBiase with a fist drop to win the match. ##

Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. “The Rock” Don Muraco w/ “Superstar” Billy Graham ##
The match starts! They tie up and then break apart. Bravo shoves Muraco into the corner and smashes him in the gut with his shoulder. Bravo chops Muraco's chest, then tries to whip him across the ring, but Muraco fights back and reverses it. Muraco whips Bravo into the corner and nails him with a clothesline before slamming him to the mat. Muraco climbs to the second turnbuckle for a big splash, but Bravo scrambles out of the way just in time.##
Bravo recovers and kicks Muraco down hard. He throws punches at Muraco's stomach and then hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Bravo bounces Muraco off the corner turnbuckle before throwing him to the other side of the ring. He punches Muraco repeatedly and then tries to run into him with a knee, but misses. Muraco takes advantage and tackles him down. Muraco focuses on Bravo's leg, twisting and bending it painfully. He puts Bravo in a leg lock. Outside the ring, Billy Graham and Frenchy Martin start yelling at each other.##
Bravo fights out of the hold, but Muraco takes him down and puts him right back in it. Bravo kicks out quickly, and Muraco gets his head stuck between the ropes. Bravo sets up for a piledriver and slams Muraco down hard. The crowd boos as Bravo celebrates. He pins Muraco for a two count. Bravo stomps on Muraco and tries for another piledriver, but Muraco flips him over his back. Muraco dodges a clothesline, and they both knock each other out with double clotheslines. Muraco punches Bravo and throws him into the ropes. He jumps off the top turnbuckle for a flying forearm smash, but accidentally hits the referee instead. It looks like it might have been on purpose by Bravo! Bravo takes advantage of the ref being down and hits a sidewalk slam on Muraco. He pins him, but the referee disqualifies Bravo because of the earlier stuff with the ropes. ##

Greg “The Hammer” Valentine w/ “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat ##
Valentine shoves Steamboat away twice. Steamboat holds Valentine in a headlock, but Valentine throws him off. Steamboat slides between Valentine's legs after bouncing off the ropes. Steamboat cranks on Valentine's arm before kicking him. Steamboat punches Valentine down and nearly pins him. Valentine throws Steamboat into the ropes, but Steamboat slams him with his shoulder for another near fall. Steamboat bumps Valentine with his shoulder again for another two count. Valentine throws Steamboat over the top rope, but Steamboat climbs back in. Steamboat dropkicks Valentine into the ropes and tries to pin him quickly, but they mess up. ##
Steamboat twists Valentine's arm and throws punches. Valentine chops Steamboat's chest a bunch before stepping on his throat. Valentine yanks Steamboat away from the ropes and slams him on the mat. Valentine smashes Steamboat with his forearm for a two count. Steamboat flips out of a back suplex and bounces Valentine off the corner. Steamboat throws an elbow and goes back to twisting Valentine's arm. Valentine bends Steamboat way back to break free before clotheslining him. Valentine elbows Steamboat in the head a bunch before pulling him onto the ring apron and choking him. Steamboat fights back with punches, but Valentine keeps jabbing him. The camera cuts to Donald Trump sitting close by. Steamboat chops Valentine down hard and almost pins him. Steamboat tries to slam Valentine, but buckles under his weight. Valentine gets a two count. ##
Valentine blasts Steamboat with his forearm and smashes him in the gut. Valentine knees Steamboat in the belly and kicks him into the ropes. They trade blows back and forth before Steamboat takes Valentine down. Valentine hits Steamboat in the shoulder for a near fall. The manager yells like crazy with a bullhorn. Valentine climbs to the top turnbuckle and jumps down, chopping the back of Steamboat's head. Valentine tries to lock Valentine's legs in a special hold, but Steamboat punches him down. Steamboat smashes Valentine's face on the mat a couple of times before throwing him into the ropes. Steamboat jumps off the top rope and throws a flying elbow. Steamboat almost pins Valentine again. Steamboat slams Valentine off the corner, but the referee jumps in to stop him. Steamboat is fired up. Steamboat leaps over the ropes and tackles Valentine, but Valentine rolls through and grabs his tights to win the match. ##

“The Natural” Butch Reed w/ Slick vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth ##
Savage sheds his headband, a defiant flourish before the clash. Reed soaks in the jeers, chest puffed in response. They grapple, Reed shoving Savage into the turnbuckles. A feint from Savage avoids Reed's right, creating space. They lock up again, Savage cinching in a waistlock. Reed explodes, powering Savage to the corner and launching a relentless knee attack. A brutal snapmare sets Savage up for a fist drop from Reed. He bounces Savage off the turnbuckle before a belly-to-belly across the ring. Savage blocks a blow, mirroring it back. ##
He attempts a suplex, but Reed counters with his own, planting Savage. A thunderous elbow from Reed earns a near fall. Punches rain down on Savage, then a brutal snap off the top rope sends him crashing to the ringside. Reed basks in the moment, but Savage scrambles back in. He endures a stomp barrage before being launched into the ropes for a back elbow. Reed scales the second turnbuckle, aiming for a flying fist drop. Savage writhes in pain, rolling to the apron for refuge. Reed charges, but a miscalculation leaves him open. Savage connects with a kick, then a flurry of punches and elbows. One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink ##
Gang blindsides Bigelow with a flurry of blows, driving him sternum-first into the corner. He charges again, but Bigelow nimbly dodges and slams him down with a shoulder block. With surprising agility, Bigelow executes a cartwheel and a splash, but only manages a two count. He ducks a clothesline and delivers a running cross-body, again for a near fall. Unleashing a flurry of offense, Bigelow head-butts and punches Gang before sending him crashing down with a clothesline. Elbows and head-butts follow, culminating in a devastating falling head-butt. As Bigelow charges the ropes for another attack, Slick throws a wrench into the plans by yanking the top rope down. Disrupted and forced onto the apron, Bigelow is counted out by the referee. ##

“Ravishing” Rick Rude w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts ##
They lock up again, Roberts overpowers him with a face slam. Rude recovers, scoop slamming Roberts twice before punches. Roberts dodges a third scoop slam, delivering two himself. Rude begs off, but Roberts punches him down. Noticing Damian's bag nearby, Rude scurries away. Roberts wrenches his arm and punches. He cinches in a wristlock, screams erupting from Rude. Rude retaliates with a punch, but the hold remains locked. Roberts drags him down, controlling the fight. "Weasel" chants rise from the crowd. Rude struggles to his feet, shoving Roberts to the corner. He throws shoulders before placing Roberts on the top rope. A knee to the face from Roberts stuns Rude, who signals for a DDT. Rude scrambles out, consulting with Heenan. ##
Back in the ring, Roberts locks in an arm bar. Rude pushes him to the ropes, they reverse positions. Roberts seizes the opportunity for a scoop slam. He charges for a knee lift, but Rude throws him off. Rude stomps on a downed Roberts, then throws him to the ropes for a clothesline. He gyrates as Heenan warns him to focus. Rude covers for a two count. Heenan questions the delay. Rude cinches in a chin lock, grounding Roberts despite his struggles. Heenan distracts the referee as Rude chokes him. Rude resumes the chin lock as the referee turns back. Roberts fights back, whipping him off. Rude leaps to the second rope, delivering a flying elbow to the neck. He gyrates again before punches. Rude capitalizes with an elbow drop to the neck for another two count. The relentless chin lock returns, met with chants of "boring" from the audience. The referee checks on Roberts, who retaliates by pulling Rude's hair. A second arm check is shrugged off by Roberts. He fights back with a jawbreaker, unleashing jabs before sending Rude to the ropes for a back body drop. Roberts wrenches the arm and follows with a short-arm clothesline, the crowd erupting in cheers. He attempts the DDT, but Rude shoves him to the corner. They trade blows, then double clothesline each other. Rude goes for the pin, but only gets a two count. He resorts to a roll-up with his feet on the ropes, but the bell rings as the referee counts. Undeterred, Warrior rises and clotheslines Hercules. Another clothesline follows, but a hotshot attempt off the top rope falters. Warrior chops him again before Hercules dumps him over the top rope. Warrior retaliates by pulling Hercules out and unloading punches. He bounces him off the steps and throws him back in the ring. Hercules responds with punches as he enters. Elbows are traded, but Warrior regains control with punches. His signature ten punches in the corner are countered by a swift inverted atomic drop from Hercules. Warrior reverses a whip, charging at Hercules who dodges. A full nelson attempt by Hercules fails as he can't lock his fingers. Warrior overpowers him, landing on top. Both are counted down, but Warrior barely gets his shoulder up for the win. ##

André the Giant w/ Ted DiBiase and Virgil vs. Hulk Hogan ##
André assaults Hogan entering the ring, head-butting him down. Chops and blows rain down on Hogan. Hogan rallies with forearms, driving André to the ropes. He grabs DiBiase on the apron and smashes him into André's head. Chops to André's chest and ropes tie him up. Hogan rips off his shirt, igniting the crowd. Trump gives a thumbs up. Hogan uses the ropes for momentum, connecting with a running fist that sends André down. Three elbows drop, but André catches Hogan and chokes him. He stomps Hogan's head, shrugging off any damage inflicted. The chokehold resumes. Chest chops and a shoulder nerve hold weaken Hogan. The referee checks on him, but Hogan fights back with a knee to André's gut and punches. A clothesline sends André to the corner. Hogan signals for the slam, but Virgil distracts the referee as DiBiase brings a chair in. Hogan eliminates DiBiase from the ring. Incensed, he grabs the chair and blasts André with it. A neckbreaker and a corner whip keep DiBiase on the defensive. However, DiBiase counters by ramming Muraco's head into the ring post. He seizes control, stomping and choking Muraco before a clothesline earns him another two-count. DiBiase maintains the pressure with a knee to the midsection and another diving fist drop, but Muraco cleverly uses the ropes to break the pin. DiBiase continues his assault with choking blows and chops, but Muraco retaliates with a kick after DiBiase lowers his head. DiBiase lands a scoop slam but misses an elbow drop from the second turnbuckle. Now on offense, Muraco pummels DiBiase in the corner and delivers a clothesline. DiBiase pleads for mercy, but Muraco charges nonetheless. DiBiase cleverly counters with a hotshot into the top turnbuckle, securing a surprise victory. ##

Valentine pummels Savage in the corner, then throws elbows. Savage fires back, whips Valentine into the corner, and executes a snapmare followed by a knee drop for a two-count. Valentine retaliates with a takedown and elbow drop, then cinches in a shoulder breaker for another near fall. He drags Savage outside, chops him, and bounces him off the barricade. Back in the ring, Valentine grinds his elbow into Savage's neck and stomps him.##
From the apron, he delivers a forearm smash. Focusing on Savage's leg, Valentine attempts a Figure Four, but Savage reaches the ropes. Valentine connects with a backbreaker for a two-count. Savage rallies, elbows Valentine down, executes a scoop slam, and ascends the top turnbuckle for a double axe handle, nearly securing the win. Jimmy Hart disrupts Savage, who chases him away. Valentine elbows Savage again, attempts a suplex, but Savage reverses it. Savage scales the turnbuckles again for another double axe handle, but Valentine catches him with a punch mid-air. Both men are down. Savage charges for a corner splash, but Valentine dodges. Valentine applies the Figure Four, but Savage counters with a small package for a cunning victory. ##

WWF Intercontinental ChampionshipBrutus Beefcake vs The Honky Tonk Man (c) (with Jimmy Hart and Peggy Sue) ##
In a heated match, Beefcake and HTM battle it out, with Beefcake gaining the upper hand early on with an atomic drop. HTM resorts to dirty tactics, escaping the ring multiple times to regroup with his allies. Despite interference from Jimmy Hart, Beefcake locks in a sleeper hold, causing HTM to pass out. As Beefcake prepares to shave HTM's head, Hart tries to intervene but ends up having his own hair cut by Beefcake instead. HTM and his allies narrowly escape as Beefcake is held back by referees. ##

The Islanders (Haku and Tama) and Bobby Heenan vs The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid) and Koko B. Ware ##
Donning a protective suit to shield himself from Matilda's teeth, Bobby Heenan joins the fray alongside the Islanders. Dynamite Kid, leading the British Bulldogs charge, overpowers the Islanders with a series of throws and strikes. Tama retaliates with a kick, but Kid responds with a vicious takedown and ring expulsion. Davey Boy Smith tags in and overpowers Tama with a slam, narrowly missing an elbow drop. Haku enters the ring, trading blows with Smith before delivering a shoulder block. Smith counters with a crucifix pin attempt, but only manages a two-count. He muscles Haku into a chin lock, but Haku escapes with an arm wrench and punches. Smith throws Tama with a military press and tags in Koko B. Ware. Ware wastes no time, dropping Haku with a dropkick and flooring Tama. He then transitions into a head-scissors takedown, controlling both Islanders.##
Kid tags in, chopping and clotheslining Haku before being caught with a big boot. In an unexpected move, Heenan tags himself in, pummeling Kid while still clad in his protective gear. Kid rallies, forcing Tama to tag in. Tama back body drops Kid and attempts a splash from the second rope, but Kid meets him with raised knees. Ware tags in, peppering Tama with punches and throws before sending him into Haku. Haku retaliates with a swift kick, then tears at Ware's face before tagging in Tama. Tama clubs Ware down and tags in Heenan. Heenan joins the assault, but Ware fights back, escaping a choke and landing punches. He overpowers Heenan, driving him sternum-first into the corner and following up with a dropkick. Heenan stumbles into the ring post, shoulder first.##
Chaos erupts as the Bulldogs and Islanders brawl. The Islanders overpower Ware, slamming him into Heenan. The referee calls for the pin, and the Islanders win by unorthodox means. ##

One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth ##
The match begins with a lockup. Gang overpowers Savage, shoving him to the corner. Savage dodges a punch but gets grabbed. He retaliates by yanking Gang's beard and snapping him off the top turnbuckle. Gang regains control, driving Savage to the corner and pummeling him with elbows and clubs. Savage stumbles, gets knocked down, and choked with Gang's boot. More punishment follows with back clubs before Gang executes a scoop slam. Savage barely breaks the pin with his foot on the bottom rope. Gang throws another elbow for a near fall. He repeats the scoop slam, aiming for a splash, but Savage evades. Savage dodges a corner attack and unloads punches, forcing Gang out of the ring. Savage dives over the top rope with a double axe handle to Gang's head. Gang re-enters the ring. Savage attempts a slam but struggles due to Gang's weight. Gang applies a choke bomb. Slick distracts Miss Elizabeth outside. He then passes Gang a cane. Gang strikes Savage with the cane while the referee is preoccupied with Elizabeth. The referee turns back, sees the cane, and disqualifies Gang. ##

WWF Tag Team ChampionshipDemolition (Ax and Smash) (with Mr. Fuji) vs Strike Force (Tito Santana and Rick Martel) (c) ##
In the opening moments, Smash overpowers Martel with strikes and sends him into the ropes. He misses a clothesline but catches Martel's rebound. Santana disrupts with a dropkick, but Ax retaliates by attacking Santana. Martel capitalizes with a crossbody on Ax. Strike Force takes control, sending Smash into the ropes and pummeling him. Martel wrenches the arm and tags Santana, who delivers a flying elbow and maintains arm control. Smash counters with a knee and tags Ax. Santana reverses with an arm drag and arm bar. Martel tags in and resumes the arm attack, but Ax fights back with punches. Smash enters and gets hip-tossed by Martel. Santana tags in and targets Smash's arm with kicks. Smash tries to whip Martel into the ropes, but Martel anticipates and leaps over him. Ax stops Martel with a clothesline and tags in, clubbing him down. He misses an elbow drop, allowing Santana to elbow Ax down. Ax overpowers Santana with clubs, but Santana rallies with a flying forearm. ##
Martel and Smash trade tags. Martel unloads punches on Smash, throws him down with a back body drop, and connects with two dropkicks – one on Smash and another on Ax who enters illegally. After another dropkick on Smash, Martel applies a Boston Crab. Santana tackles Ax outside the ring. Mr. Fuji interferes from the apron, but Santana knocks Ax down and punches Fuji. In the chaos, Ax strikes Martel in the neck with Fuji's cane. Smash capitalizes with a pin for the victory. ##

The match begins with a lockup. DiBiase overpowers Savage and corners him, but Savage fights out. Andre interferes by grabbing Savage's leg, drawing a warning from the referee. Chants of "Hogan" erupt from the crowd. Savage wrenches DiBiase's arm before reversing a whip and shoulder-blocking him down. Savage rebounds off the ropes, but Andre sweeps his legs. The "Hogan" chants intensify. DiBiase targets Savage's arm, but Savage reverses the hold. DiBiase corners Savage and pummels his midsection with punches and chops before elbowing him in the back. He whips Savage into the ropes for a clothesline attempt, but only gets a two-count. Savage reverses a whip and gets shoulder blocked down by DiBiase. DiBiase resumes the attack with knee strikes and chops before stomping Savage and sending him into the ropes for a back elbow. Another elbow to the neck and a whip are followed by Savage ducking a clothesline and taking DiBiase down. He snaps DiBiase off the top turnbuckle and connects with a high knee that sends him flying over the top rope. Savage climbs to the top rope for a flying attack, but Andre steps in front of DiBiase, forcing Savage to abort and climb down. He whispers to Elizabeth, who sprints backstage. DiBiase capitalizes with punches and a near-fall after a chin lock. The "Hogan" chants return.##
Suddenly, Elizabeth returns with Hulk Hogan by her side. Hogan grabs a chair and sits menacingly at ringside, unsettling DiBiase and wearying Andre. DiBiase corners Savage again, but Andre pulls him out. Hogan retaliates with punches, sending Andre to his knees. In the ring, DiBiase clotheslines Savage and gets a near-fall after an elbow drop. A suplex earns him another two-count, followed by arguments with the referee. DiBiase tries a gutwrench suplex but only manages a near-fall, slamming the mat in frustration. He connects with a scoop slam and climbs to the top rope. Savage catches him and flips him off, wasting no time to climb up himself and attempt a flying elbow drop. DiBiase dodges, however, and applies the Million Dollar Dream. The referee is distracted by Andre. Hogan seizes the opportunity, entering the ring and smashing a chair into DiBiase's back. Savage capitalizes with a flying elbow drop, securing the victory. ##
