Mumbai, December 18 - The worldwide box office continues to see a steady rise after getting a big jolt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is expected to hit the record post-pandemic $35 billion in 2026, according to Gower Street Analytics (via Variety). The theatrical analytics firm predicted that 2026 will be the highest-grossing year worldwide since 2019's $42.3 billion haul, surpassing 2023's $33.9 billion. It will be a 5% increase over current estimates for 2025, marking a second consecutive year of growth. Gower Street releases its projection each December, utilising data from the company's Forecast service based on current release calendars alongside additional analyst assessment. The firm has a respected track record in predicting box office. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is the third Indian and the second Bollywood movie of 2025 to hit 500 crores gross in India, while it marked Ranveer Singh's maiden half a billion grosser. Overall, the mega hit has become the 16th Indian movie of all time to enter this prestigious box office club. Mumbai, December 17 - Dharma Productions' Homebound gets closer to the prestigious Oscar after the hard-hitting drama film was shortlisted in the Best International Feature category for the Oscars 2026. The film will be competing with 14 other international titles. The film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2025, and reportedly received a nine–minute standing ovation following the screening. It was released theatrically on 26 September 2025 to critical acclaim; however, it failed to create any magic at the box office.
