Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Vs Kantara Karnataka Box Office Comparison

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Bengaluru, October 15 - In a remarkable feat, Rishab Shetty's period folk action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 has emerged as the highest-grossing movie ever in Karnataka, surpassing its predecessor Kantara, which itself had an extraordinary run back in 2022. The original Kantara started on a slow note at the box office but soon turned into a cultural and commercial phenomenon across Karnataka and other Indian markets, driven by exceptionally strong word of mouth. Kantara Chapter 1, serving as a prequel to that story, stands as a testament to the legacy the first film created. The latest blockbuster has not only rewritten box office history in the state but is also poised to become the first film to cross the 200 crore mark in Karnataka — an unprecedented achievement. When comparing both films' state runs, it's clear that the prequel has dominated the early weeks by a massive margin. However, while the original Kantara displayed incredible longevity with minimal drops week after week, Kantara Chapter 1 is more front-loaded, owing to its record-breaking opening. The prequel is expected to drop around 55% in its second week — still a solid hold — whereas the first film had shown growth during the same period, maintaining its momentum through sustained audience love. Given the current trajectory, Kantara Chapter 1 is on course to collect over 250 crores at the Karnataka box office — a record that may remain unbeaten for years to come. At the worldwide box office, the film is heading towards the 700 crores mark and will be aiming to outgross Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava (808 crores) to become the biggest Indian grosser of the year. Kantara: Chapter 1 Crosses ₹150 Crore in Hindi, Becomes One of the Top 8 Highest-Grossing Dubbed Hits

BY CHRISTA LINCY

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 has crossed a remarkable milestone — earning over ₹150 crore net (As of Now) in its Hindi version, placing it eighth among the highest-grossing dubbed films released in India. What began as a modestly promoted film has now become one of the most successful non-Hindi releases to win over audiences across regions. When Kantara first released, few expected it to hold so strongly in theatres weeks after its debut. Yet, steady collections and positive word-of-mouth helped it grow beyond its initial numbers. Take a look at the Highest Hindi dubbed grossers 1. Pushpa 2: The Rule – ₹812.14 crore 2. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion – ₹511 crore 3. KGF Chapter 2 – ₹435.33 crore 4. Kalki 2898 AD – ₹293.13 crore 5. RRR – ₹272.78 crore 6. 2.0 – ₹188.23 crore 7. Mahavatar Narsimha – ₹188.15 crore 8. Kantara: Chapter 1 – ₹155.5 crore 9. Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire - ₹152.65 crore 10.Saaho - ₹145.67 crore 11.Bahubali - The Beginning - ₹118.5 crore 12.Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1 - ₹106.35 crore With this, Kantara now stands above several other major releases such as Salaar, Saaho, and Pushpa – The Rise, proving that strong audience connection can sometimes beat even large-scale action spectacles.Unlike many big-budget films that rely purely on star power, Kantara succeeded because it connected emotionally with viewers. The story, setting, and performances felt relatable and genuine. Audiences in both metros and small towns found something to hold on to — whether it was the emotion, the atmosphere, or the sincerity of the storytelling. Its growth was also helped by consistent audience engagement — families returning for repeat shows, good theatre experience, and positive talk across social media platforms. The film’s Hindi version especially benefitted from audiences looking for something rooted and real amid heavily stylised releases. As Kantara: Chapter 1 celebrates this milestone, it joins a rare group of dubbed films that made a lasting impact across India. Its success shows that language is no longer a limitation — good stories find their audience everywhere.Crossing ₹150 crore is a milestone — but it doesn’t seem to be the end of Kantara’s journey. The film continues to perform steadily in certain circuits, and its growing popularity may yet open new records in the coming weeks. With more viewers discovering it through word-of-mouth, Kantara seems far from done.As it climbs the charts one step at a time, let’s stay tuned to see what new heights this remarkable film is set to achieve next.

Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Becomes The Highest-Grossing Film In Karnataka

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Bengaluru, October 15 - Rishab Shetty's blockbuster prequel Kantara Chapter 1 has rewritten box office history in Karnataka, emerging as the highest-grossing film ever in the state. The period folk action thriller continues its phenomenal run and is now marching toward the unprecedented milestone of 200 crores gross in Karnataka alone. Written, directed, and headlined by Shetty, Kantara prequel has grossed approximately 185+ crores through its second Wednesday (14 days). It has surpassed the lifetime total of 2022's Kantara (183.60 crores) to become the state's biggest grosser — achieving this feat in just 14 days. Interestingly, the average ticket price for Kantara Chapter 1 in Karnataka has been recorded at over 300, a rare occurrence made possible after the makers took a firm stand against the state government's price cap order. The High Court's stay on the restriction — which had limited prices to 200 — played a crucial role in the film's massive revenue surge. Produced by Hombale Films, the banner behind Kantara and KGF Chapter 2 (the third-biggest grosser in Karnataka), Kantara Chapter 1 is now on course to become the first-ever film in history to cross 200 crores gross in the state, a feat expected to be achieved by its third weekend. Meanwhile, the film has topped 650 crores worldwide in 13 days. In India, it has grossed approximately 557 crores, while overseas collection is 100 crores so far. As said, Kantara 2 is only the second Kannada movie ever to breach the 100 crore mark at the International box office, after Yash's KGF 2. Stay tuned...

Kantara Reigns Supreme in 2025: How This Blockbuster Achieved Unprecedented Success While Other Big Releases Struggled to Leave a Mark

BY CHRISTA LINCY

The year 2025 witnessed a remarkable surge of South Indian films reaching Hindi-speaking audiences, but among them, Kantara stood out as the true phenomenon. Earning ₹656 crore worldwide(As of Now), with ₹155.35 crore (As of Now)coming from its Hindi release alone, driven by strong word-of-mouth, the essence of the story infused every small cultural nuances that connected the audience irrespective of language. Its compelling narrative and relatable characters turned it into a pan-India experience, setting benchmarks for Hindi-dubbed releases. While Kantara dominated, other releases like Coolie, Game Changer, and Mirai achieved only moderate results in Hindi markets. Coolie collected ₹37.23 crore in Hindi, supported by pre-release hype, a high-profile cast, and action-packed promotions. Game Changer earned ₹32.93 crore, contributing about 17.7% to its worldwide total of ₹186.28 crore, thanks to star power, fan anticipation, and premiere shows. Similarly, Mirai, with a pan-India cast and mythological-fantasy storyline, garnered ₹16.85 crore in Hindi from its ₹144.02 crore worldwide total. While these films had niche appeal, repeat viewings, and targeted promotions that helped them sustain for a few weeks, they could not replicate the kind of Hindi market success Kantara enjoyed. Films like Lokah Chapter 1 (₹3.74 crore) and They Call Him OG (₹3.32 crore) performed modestly, maintaining presence in select multiplexes. While films such as Coolie, Game Changer, and Mirai managed moderate collections, none could match the impact of Kantara across the northern and central belt audiences. Despite having pan-India casts, high-octane action, and visually impressive sequences, these films fell short of truly resonating with viewers. Their performance highlights that star power or production scale alone is not enough to guarantee widespread success. To achieve blockbuster status beyond the South, a film must combine compelling storytelling with cultural relatability, emotional depth, and narratives that transcend linguistic boundaries. Strong promotions, word-of-mouth momentum, and strategic release planning are important, but the core of a hit lies in connecting with audiences on an emotional and experiential level—something Kantara accomplished with remarkable finesse. Future filmmakers aiming for pan-India success must focus on stories that engage viewers beyond spectacle, creating immersion, relatability, and lasting impact. Jr. NTR's Dragon With Director Prashanth Neel Locks Post-Theatrical Streaming Deal With Netflix

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Hyderabad, October 15: One of India's most-awaited Pan India big-screen spectacles, Dragon (tentative title) starring superstar Jr. NTR and directed by Prashanth Neel, is making noise for all the right reasons. The movie is reportedly shaping up really well, amid the growing anticipation. Dragon or NTR 31 marks the first collaboration between NTR and Neel, who got the wide pan-India recognition with their recent films. Considering the top-tier talent involved and huge expectations among the nationwide audience, the makers are treating it as a proper Pan-India blockbuster, and accordingly have locked a post-theatrical streaming deal. According to the latest Telugu media reports, Dragon has finalised its streaming partner ahead of its massive theatrical release next year. The high-octane period actioner has reportedly sealed a lucrative digital deal with Netflix, with an 8-week post-theatrical window before its OTT premiere. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with NTR Arts, Dragon joins the very few South Indian origin Pan India films to lock an 8-week window. It is to be noted that to secure wide release in Hindi, a film requires an 8-week theatrical run, and the makers of Dragon are highly confident that their film will work wonders at the Hindi box office. However, an extended window for all versions is definitely a welcome move. The film, said to be mounted on a massive scale, features Jr. NTR in an intense action-packed role with Prashanth Neel's trademark dark, gritty tone and large-scale world-building. The shooting is currently in progress, with major portions being filmed in specially erected sets across Hyderabad and abroad. The film is scheduled to release on June 25, 2026, in multiple languages. Stay tuned...

Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Tops 100 Crore At The Overseas Box Office

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, October 14 - The Kannada film industry has achieved another global milestone as Rishab Shetty's period folk action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 has stormed past the 100 crore mark at the overseas box office on its 13th day. This makes it only the second Kannada movie ever to achieve this feat, following Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2. Produced by Hombale Films, the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara grossed approximately 98 crores internationally through its second Monday (12 days), before crossing the coveted mark on its 13th day. With this, Kantara Chapter 1 becomes the fifth Indian film of 2025 to surpass 100 crores in overseas collections. Written, directed, and headlined by Shetty, the film has already earned more than twice the overseas total of the first instalment, which grossed around 44 crores in 2022. It now joins an elite list of Indian movies to breach the 100 crore overseas mark this year and stands as the second Kannada film after KGF 2 (214 crores in 2022) to do so. The blockbuster prequel is currently the fifth biggest Indian overseas grosser of 2025, behind Rajinikanth's Coolie (180 crores), Saiyaara (171.50 crores), Empuraan (142.25 crores), and Lokah Chapter 1 (₹119.60 crores). However, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to soon surpass Lokah to claim the fourth spot. Kantara Chapter 1 is likely to finish above Lokah as the 4th biggest Indian overseas blockbuster of the year. Interestingly, both the biggest Kannada blockbusters, Kantara 2 and KGF 2, have been backed by Hombale Films, along with Kantara, which is currently the third-highest-grossing Kannada film ever. Meanwhile, Kantara 2 is inching closer to the 650 crore worldwide milestone. After 12 days, it has grossed around 638 crores globally, including about 540 crores from India. The movie is already the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, behind Chhaava, and with its current momentum, it could even challenge for the top spot of the year. Stay tuned...

Will Kantara Chapter 1 Cross the 200 Crore Milestone in Karnataka and Eclipse KGF Chapter 2's Record?

BY CHRISTA LINCY

Rishab Shetty’s magnum opus, Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, continues to soar 12 days after its theatrical release. In a remarkable display of box office dominance, Rishab Shetty's Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 has continued its triumphant run, amassing an impressive ₹176 (est)crore gross in Karnataka by the end of its 12th day. Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 garnered approximately ₹12 crore gross in Karnatak on Day 12, contributing to a cumulative Karnataka gross of around ₹176 crore. The film's performance has been consistent, with strong weekday holds following a blockbuster opening weekend. Overall, the movie's India net collection stood at ₹451.9 crore by Day 12, with the Karnataka Gross contributing to ₹176(est)crore, highlighting its core strength in the regional market. This achievement places Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 on the cusp of surpassing one of Kannada cinema's biggest benchmarks: KGF Chapter 2's lifetime Karnataka gross of ₹182.96 crore — a feat the Yash-starrer achieved over 50+ days in 2022. Directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Yash, KGF Chapter 2 (2022) remains a monumental hit, with its lifetime Kannada version netting ₹154.69 crore and driving the film's worldwide gross to a staggering ₹1,215 crore. However, Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 has already closed the gap significantly in just 12 days, contributing to ₹142.7 (est)crore in kanada version signaling a potential shift in the record books for Sandalwood's highest earners.
