Mumbai, August 26 - Rising Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan is gearing up to explore new territories with his next slate of films. The actor, who has made a mark with romantic comedy dramas, will venture into the fantasy zone and action thriller genre for the first time with a few of his upcoming films. The Luka Chuppi star is currently shooting for director Anurag Basu's untitled love story, which is expected to release in December this year. He also has director Sameer Vidhwans's romantic comedy Tu Mera Main Tera Main Tera Tu Mera, which debuts in cinemas in February 2026. After these romance-filled blockbusters, Kartik will be stepping into the fantasy world for the first time with Fukrey director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's Naagzilla, in which he will play the role of a Snake-Man, and he will be fighting the snakes in the movie. The film's shoot begins once he is done with his two romantic films. Recently, it was revealed that the actor would team with the Chak De India director Shimit Amin for Captain India. Interestingly, a film with the same title was announced in 2021 with director Hansal Mehta and Kartik, but it didn't materialise back then. It is said to be the same script, written by written and produced by Harman Baweja. Kartik will play the role of an Air Force pilot in Captain India, which is based on true events. It will go on the floors in the first half of 2026 and will be shot in India and Morocco. The team reportedly has already completed the recce in Morocco. It will start after Naagzilla, which hits the big screen on August 14, 2026. Chennai, August 25 - Superstar Rajinikanth's latest release Coolie has stormed past the 300 crore mark in India within just 11 days of release, becoming only the 5th Tamil movie of all-time to achieve the feat. It has joined the elite 300 crores club, which also features 2.0, Leo, Jailer, and Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial opened to massive hype and lived up to the expectations, setting the cash registers ringing right through the opening weekend. But after that, the movie went off track, failing to build on the big opening weekend collection. Crossing 300 crore in just 11 days places Coolie among the fastest Tamil films to achieve the landmark. By doing this, it has crossed the lifetime total of Thalapathy Vijay's The GOAT, which grossed approximately 296 crores domestically last year. With Coolie joining the 300 crore domestic club, Rajinikanth now shares the stage with himself - Jailer (408.50 crores), and 2.0 (519 crores)**, Vijay's Leo (402 crores), and director Mani Ratnam's multistarrer Ponniyin Selvan - 1 (313 crores). Director Shankar's sci-fi actioner 2 Point 0 continues to remain the biggest domestic Tamil grosser with around 520 crores. Mumbai, August 25 - Vicky Kaushal's ambitious epic action drama Mahavatar is no longer releasing on Christmas 2026, as the makers have reportedly postponed it to 2027 amid the shooting delay. The lucrative festive holiday period is now vacant for other films to occupy. According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, Mahavatar shoot has been delayed to next year amid Kaushal's scheduling conflict. To be directed by Amar Kaushik, the film was originally planned to start rolling by the end of 2025, which is reportedly not happening as the actor's Love and War with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is taking longer than expected to wrap. Apart from scheduling conflict with Love and War, Vicky Kaushal will also have to undergo months of intensive physical training to achieve the muscular physique necessary for his role in Mahavatar, which is based on Lord Parashurama. The report says that the makers are now eyeing to take the film on floors by April 2026. Produced by Maddock Films, Mahavatar is expected to be shot over a period of 6 months, followed by lengthy post-production work due to its heavy reliance on VFX. While the studio has not locked a new release date yet, the report says it might hit the big screen on Independence Day weekend 2027. If that happens, then the studio's Stree 3, which is currently slated for the same weekend, will be delayed. Mahavatar is the most ambitious production of Maddock Films yet, and the studio is leaving no stone unturned to make a visual spectacle on the big screens. Chennai, August 25 - There was no respite for superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie, which witnessed a sharp drop of around 90% from the thunderous opening frame at the worldwide box office. The movie did show some momentum with growth over Saturday and Sunday, but it was not enough to cover the lost ground it suffered during the weekdays. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the gangster action drama grossed an estimated ₹39-40 crores at the worldwide box office in the second weekend, compared to around 385 crores in the first frame. The drop is around 90% which is beyond repair. The film's total collection after 11 days is around 480 crores worldwide. The growth during the weekend, however, shows that Coolie will manage to surpass 500 crores worldwide, a milestone which once looked like a cake walk before it became an uphill task with the weekdays' trajectory. After the record-breaking opening weekend, the film managed only around 54 crores from Monday to Thursday, which made the second weekend growth negligible. It would have been nice had the second weekend drop been around 75%, but that couldn't be possible due to the weak trend after the opening weekend. Through the second Sunday, the film has grossed approximately 305 crores in India and 175 crores overseas, heading towards a total of around 525 crores at the end of its run. Coolie will end up as a box office flop, despite possibly grossing over 500 crores worldwide, which would make it only the fourth Tamil title ever to achieve this feat. The expectations were high from this Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, but poor reviews and mixed audience reception didn't allow the film to fly at the box office. Stay tuned...

Los Angeles, August 24 - Superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie may not have performed as expected at the Indian box office, but the gangster action drama has taken the North American box office by storm, and created history by becoming the highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time there. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie has so far grossed approximately $6.72 million (58.65 crores) in North America, which makes it the biggest Tamil grosser in this region, according to the official update from the makers. By doing this, it has beaten Rajinikanth's own blockbuster Jailer. There is a difference between the trade and the official estimated collection of Jailer regarding the North American market. Released in 2023, Nelson Dilipkumar's directorial had grossed $7.25 million (60+ crores) in NA, as per the trade estimates, but the latest update from the makers paints a different picture. Jailer was also produced by Sun Pictures and was distributed by Prime Media in North America. Despite the record-breaking run in North America, trade debates that Coolie failed to use the full potential of it there, especially after $3 million premiere day. There was a massive hype for this, but the poor reviews and mixed word of mouth cut short its potential. At the worldwide box office, Coolie has clearly underperformed as it has been struggling to touch 500 crores worldwide, despite the biggest opening weekend of 385 crores for a Tamil film. Mumbai, August 24 - Kaleem Production and Hombale Films' epic devotional action drama Mahavatar Narishma has created history as it has officially crossed the 300 crore worldwide mark in just 31 days, becoming the first-ever Indian animated film to achieve this historic feat. Made on a modest budget of around 10–15 crore, the film's phenomenal success has stunned trade experts and the industry alike. With a total collection of 301 crore worldwide after a month-long run, through the 5th Sunday, Mahavatar Narishma has not only proved the strength of storytelling in Indian animation but has also set new benchmarks for the genre. The film has also joined an elite league by becoming the 5th Indian film of 2025 to cross the 300 crore milestone, standing tall alongside big-ticket live-action blockbusters like Chhaava, Saiyaara, Coolie, and War 2. Its achievement is being hailed as a game-changer for the Indian animation industry. The movie's grand narrative, inspired by the Indian epic and presented with visually rich animation, struck a chord with audiences across age groups. The blend of divine storytelling, emotional depth, and cutting-edge visuals helped the film transcend the usual limitations of animated releases in India. Mumbai, August 24 - Director Priyadarshan has reunited with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar for a crime thriller Haiwaan, also starring Saif Ali Khan in the lead role. The movie officially kicked off filming on August 23, with plans to release it in the summer of 2026. During a recent interview, Priyadarshan confirmed that Haiwaan is inspired by his 2016 Malayalam movie Oppam, but with several changes to the dialogues and screenplay. Ever since fans learned about this development, they have been wondering if Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who played the lead role in the original movie, will also make an appearance. Well, the veteran filmmaker has himself confirmed that Mohanlal will indeed play a cameo role in Haiwaan. "His character will definitely be a surprise for the audience," Priyadarshan revealed in a chat with Onmanorama, adding that after Haiwaan, he plans to direct his 100th film with Mohanlal in the lead. Haiwaan marks Priyadarshan's 8th collaboration with Akshay Kumar, including the upcoming horror comedy Bhooth Bangla. When asked about his frequent collaborations with Akki, the filmmaker said that it is all about comfort as he labelled him as Bollywood's Mohanlal. Priyadarshan also hinted that Hera Pheri 3, which will be his 9th film with Akshay, could be his last film as he is getting tired. Meanwhile, Haiwaan is produced by the leading Kannada production house, KVN Productions, marking its debut in Bollywood. The movie is currently being filmed in Kochi, and after that, the team will move to Vagamon, Ooty, and Mumbai.
