10 WWE Superstars Who Were Never Truly Pushed — And Could Have Been Megastars

BY SACNILK

WWE has had no shortage of talented Superstars who had the charisma, athletic ability and in-ring skills to become major names, only for their careers to stall before reaching the main-event level. From Mr. Kennedy and Shelton Benjamin to Carlito and Paul London, these wrestlers showed flashes of genuine star potential but never received the sustained push needed to turn them into household names. This list looks back at 10 WWE Superstars whose careers had the ingredients for something much bigger. We will examine when they arrived in WWE, how they were introduced, the opportunities they received, the moments when they appeared destined for a major breakthrough, and why they ultimately failed to become consistent main-event stars. 10. D’Lo Brown D’Lo Brown entered WWE during the Attitude Era and initially became part of the Nation of Domination. He made his televised WWF debut in 1997 and quickly became one of the more recognizable members of the group. Brown eventually developed a character of his own, complete with his trademark head shake, chest protector and energetic wrestling style. He also became a two-time European Champion, with WWE’s own title history showing multiple reigns between 1998 and 1999. His athleticism was particularly impressive for his size, and he could work with both high-flyers and larger opponents. He was also involved in some of the most important factions and storylines of the Attitude Era. The problem was that WWE never consistently treated Brown as a potential top-level singles star. He remained an important supporting player rather than someone positioned alongside The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H or The Undertaker. 9. Paul London Paul London was one of WWE's most naturally gifted high-flyers of the 2000s. He signed with WWE in 2003 and made his television debut on SmackDown against Brock Lesnar. London quickly established himself as an exciting performer in the Cruiserweight division before moving into the tag-team scene. He won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Billy Kidman in 2004 and later formed a highly successful partnership with Brian Kendrick. London and Kendrick defeated MNM at Judgment Day 2006 to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. Their reign eventually lasted 333 days, which WWE's title history records as the longest reign in the championship's history at that time. Despite that success, London was rarely presented as a potential singles main-eventer. WWE had an opportunity to turn him into a major high-flying babyface, but that opportunity never fully materialized. 8. Chris Masters Chris Masters arrived in WWE in early 2005 with almost everything WWE traditionally looked for in a potential star: an imposing physique, a memorable nickname, a simple character and a devastating finishing move. WWE's own profile notes that the 6-foot-4, 265-pound "Masterpiece" quickly attracted attention after debuting on Raw and became famous for his Master Lock Challenge. Masters even entered the Elimination Chamber for the WWE Championship during his first year with the company, demonstrating just how highly WWE initially viewed him. The Master Lock Challenge was one of the strongest concepts WWE had for a mid-2000s heel. Masters could walk into an arena, challenge anyone to escape his hold and immediately create a reason for fans to care. But the momentum didn't last. Instead of becoming a dominant monster heel who could eventually challenge for a world championship, Masters gradually became another name on the roster. 7. Shelton Benjamin Shelton Benjamin arrived in WWE as part of the highly respected duo with Charlie Haas. The pair won tag-team gold and quickly established themselves as one of the company's best young athletic teams. WWE's title history records their multiple World Tag Team Championship reigns beginning in 2003. Benjamin's singles career eventually produced some spectacular moments. His athletic ability was obvious, particularly in his famous matches against Shawn Michaels and other top stars. He also became a two-time Intercontinental Champion. The problem was that WWE often presented Benjamin as an excellent wrestler rather than as a potential superstar. 6. Carlito Carlito may have one of the strongest cases on this list because WWE initially appeared to have enormous confidence in him. He made his SmackDown debut in 2004 and immediately defeated John Cena for the United States Championship. He later won the Intercontinental Championship on his Raw debut against Shelton Benjamin. Carlito also had something many technically gifted wrestlers lacked: natural charisma. His "I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool" character was simple, memorable and easy for fans to understand. He won multiple championships during his original WWE run, including the United States, Intercontinental and Tag Team Championships. He eventually left WWE in 2010 and returned to the company in 2023, although his later run was largely used in a supporting/comedic role. The frustrating part is that Carlito looked like someone who could have occupied the upper-middle card for years and potentially moved into the world-title picture. Instead, the company never made the long-term commitment necessary to turn him into a true main-event attraction. 5. John Morrison John Morrison had perhaps one of the most complete packages of any wrestler on this list. He originally entered WWE after winning Tough Enough in 2002 and eventually became Johnny Nitro. His partnership with Joey Mercury and Melina created the successful MNM act before Morrison developed into a singles performer. After becoming John Morrison, he captured the ECW Championship and later became a major part of WWE programming alongside The Miz. WWE itself documented the beginning of his "Morrison era" after he reinvented his character. His parkour-inspired movement, athletic entrances and spectacular offense made him one of WWE's most visually impressive wrestlers. Yet despite winning the Intercontinental and Tag Team Championships and becoming ECW Champion, Morrison never won WWE's top world championship during his original run. 4. MVP MVP arrived in WWE with a character that immediately stood out. He made his first SmackDown appearance on August 4, 2006, portraying the arrogant, flashy "Ballin'" superstar. WWE's own biography notes that the company gave him a major contract and positioned him as one of the brand's most intriguing new arrivals. MVP backed up the talk in the ring. Within less than a year, he became United States Champion, and he later won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Matt Hardy. WWE even presented him as someone with the potential to become a future World Champion. His feud and partnership with Matt Hardy were among the highlights of SmackDown during that period. MVP had charisma, a distinctive character, excellent mic skills and enough in-ring ability to work with top stars. Yet WWE never fully pulled the trigger on him as a world-title-level performer. Considering how over his character became, MVP is one of the clearest examples of a wrestler who appeared destined for a much bigger role but never quite received it. 3. Ricochet Ricochet built his reputation on the independent circuit and in New Japan Pro-Wrestling as one of the most innovative high-flyers in the world before signing with WWE and debuting on NXT in 2018, later moving to the main roster in 2019. His arrival came with genuine buzz — WWE even teased a mystery "One" storyline to build anticipation before his reveal. Once on the main roster, however, Ricochet was largely kept in the midcard, frequently used to elevate other performers rather than being elevated himself. His athleticism remained undeniable, but a sustained run at the top of a WWE card never came his way. 2. Zack Ryder Zack Ryder is one of the rare cases of a WWE Superstar who essentially pushed himself. After joining the main roster in the mid-2000s, Ryder found himself stuck in lower-card roles for years until he launched his own YouTube series, "Z! True Long Island Story," around 2011 — building a grassroots fanbase almost entirely outside of WWE's own programming. That fan-driven momentum eventually forced WWE's hand, leading to an Internet Championship run and a surprise Intercontinental Championship win at WrestleMania 32 in 2016. But each time Ryder gained traction, WWE pulled back shortly after, treating his pushes as brief experiments rather than long-term investments — leaving one of wrestling's most fan-beloved underdogs without the sustained spotlight his popularity suggested he'd earned. 1. Mr. Kennedy If there is one wrestler who arguably came closest to becoming a major WWE superstar before his momentum disappeared, it is Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy debuted in WWE in 2005 and quickly developed one of the most recognizable characters on the roster. His microphone work, entrance and "Kennedy... Kennedy!" catchphrase immediately separated him from the rest of the pack. WWE gave him major opportunities early in his career, including a Money in the Bank victory at WrestleMania 23. He was planning to hold the contract until WrestleMania 24 and challenge for the WWE Championship. That alone shows how seriously WWE was considering him. But his planned rise was derailed when he lost the Money in the Bank contract to Edge after defending it on Raw. WWE's own history notes that Kennedy remains the only Money in the Bank contract holder who never successfully cashed in. He also suffered injuries and experienced repeated changes in direction. Instead of becoming a consistent main-event heel, Kennedy's WWE run faded and he departed the company in 2009. For a wrestler with his character, microphone ability and natural presence, his WWE career ended far below the level many fans expected.

The Rock's highly anticipated return to the ring at WrestleMania 40 has wrestling fans buzzing. Scheduled for the main event of Saturday night's show, The Rock will team up with Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. This marks The Rock's first full match since WrestleMania 29 (2013), with the exception of his brief appearance at WrestleMania 32 (2016).## As The Rock prepares to step back into the squared circle, details about his training regime have emerged. "Obviously, I'm partial to those guys," he admitted. "They're fantastic guys, they're professional and very dependable." ## With WrestleMania just around the corner, all eyes are on The Rock. Injury Update On Johnny Gargano Following A Scary Spot On 3/1/23 WWE Raw

BY SACNILK

WrestleMania 40 week kicked off with this week's edition of Monday Night Raw, but Johnny Gargano quickly put those fears to rest. During a match, Gargano took a frightening dive that seemed to send him crashing into the commentary desk. However, he took to Twitter to assure fans that he's unharmed. ## "Appreciate the concern, y'all!" Gargano wrote. "I'm good! And all I'm going to say... is if I'm taking risks like this on #WWERAW... Imagine what I'm gonna do in that Ladder Match at #WrestleManiaXL!" ## This statement hints at the high-flying action Gargano has planned for the upcoming six-pack Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. He and his DIY partner will battle it out against The New Day, The New Catch Republic, R-Truth & The Miz, Judgement Day, and Grayson Waller & Austin Theory. ## The episode also provided clarification on the title situation. All four championship belts will be suspended above the ring, and retrieving just one set won't end the match. Wrestlers will have to claim both sets to be crowned the undisputed champions. This twist raises the possibility of the titles being split, creating further uncertainty in the already chaotic encounter. ## Appreciate the concern, y'all!I'm good! And all I'm going to say.. is if I'm taking risks like this on #WWERAW... He was very motivated to do this storyline for a lot of reasons.”## While the storyline seems significant, Brennan reports there haven't been any objections from within NXT. In fact, Holland is a vocal supporter of the angle and was motivated to participate for various reasons. ## Despite the storyline twist, Holland's profile has been moved to the alumni section of the WWE website's roster page. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk...

Location For WWE SummerSlam 2024 Seemingly Revealed

BY SACNILK

Fervor is rising in Cleveland, Ohio, as whispers of WWE's annual event, SummerSlam, potentially gracing the historic Municipal Stadium take hold. ## Fueling the speculation is a hefty $1.676 million tax credit awarded to WWE by the State of Ohio, part of a wider $44 million fund dedicated to television and film productions in 2024. While no official confirmation for a major WWE event in Ohio exists, the credit suspiciously aligns with the buzzing rumors surrounding Cleveland's SummerSlam bid. ## Fightful Select first ignited the flames in October 2023, naming "The Forest City" a top contender to host the "Biggest Party of the Summer." Cleveland boasts a distinguished history hosting WWE Premium Live Events. The city's maiden voyage was SummerSlam 1996, featuring the legendary clash between then-WWF Champion Shawn Michaels and Big Van Vader. Over the years, Cleveland has served as the stage for iconic moments, including No Mercy 1999, Survivor Series 2004, Unforgiven 2008, and WWE TLC 2014.## Unforgettable was Fastlane 2019, where The Shield conquered Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre in a nail-biting six-man tag team match. This marked the triumphant return of Roman Reigns following his inspiring battle against leukemia.## Further bolstering Cleveland's WWE connection are homegrown talents like The Miz and Johnny Gargano, both proudly representing the city. While The Miz now resides in Los Angeles, his roots remain firmly planted in Cleveland, alongside fellow WWE star Johnny Gargano.## With its rich history, passionate fanbase, and potential tax credit incentive, Cleveland stands as a strong contender for SummerSlam 2024. Only time will tell if "The Biggest Party of the Summer" finds its way to "The Forest City," but anticipation is undoubtedly building. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk...

These men and women stand tall as titans of the sport, etching their names onto the proverbial Mount Rushmore of Wrestling. ## Every year, the stakes are at their highest at this marquee event, captivating unparalleled attention like no other. While the legendary matchup between Hogan and Rock undeniably captivated audiences and ignited box-office magic at WrestleMania X8, it was the Triple H vs. Jericho showdown that ultimately claimed the coveted final slot, cementing itself as the grand finale of the spectacle. ## Let's check out the top 10 below; ## 1. Hulk Hogan: 8 Main Events ## Hulk Hogan was the focal point of the first nine WrestleManias, except WrestleMania 4. He won against Paul Orndorff, Roddy Piper (teamed with Mr. T), King Kong Bundy, Andre The Giant, Randy Savage, Sgt. Slaughter, and Sid Justice. ## His only loss was to The Ultimate Warrior in a Winner-Takes-All match. At WrestleMania 9, he had an impromptu match against Yokozuna, winning in under 30 seconds. ## 2. Roman Reigns: 7 Main Events ## Roman Reigns has been in more WrestleMania main events than Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and even his cousin, The Rock. Despite some backlash, Reigns has closed the show multiple times, with four main events in a row. His most recent win was at WrestleMania 39 where he defeated Cody Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. ## This year too at WrestleMania XL, Roman Reigns will sit on the top of the list when he gets to defend Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes in the main event. ## 3. Triple H: 7 Main Events ## Triple H, one of the most decorated Superstars, has worked seven WrestleMania main events. Despite losses, he holds significant wins over Chris Jericho and Randy Orton and successfully defended his WWE Championship at WrestleMania 16. ## 4. John Cena: 5 Main Events ## John Cena, the face of WWE for a decade, worked five WrestleMania main events. He lost to The Miz at WrestleMania 27 and to The Rock at WrestleMania 28. His sole win was against John Cena at WrestleMania 28, while he lost the rematch at WrestleMania 29. Shawn Michaels: 5 Main Events ## Shawn Michaels, dubbed Mr. WrestleMania, has a poor win-loss record at the event with just 1 win in 5 appearances. His only win came against Bret Hart in a 60-minute Iron Man Match at WrestleMania 12. Despite losses to Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, John Cena, and The Undertaker, Michaels consistently delivered memorable performances at WrestleMania. ## 7. He defeated Shawn Michaels and The Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleManias 14 and 15, respectively. At WrestleMania 17, he again beat The Rock for the title. Austin's perfect record in main events showcases his dominance during the Attitude Era, cut short by injury. ## 10. Bret Hart: 3 Main Events ## Bret Hart had three WrestleMania main-event appearances. He lost the WWE Championship to Yokozuna at WrestleMania 9, won the title from Yokozuna at WrestleMania 10, and lost to Shawn Michaels in the iconic 60-minute Iron Man match at WrestleMania 12. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk...

They engaged in a back-and-forth battle, exchanging strikes. Punk landed a series of blows but was countered with a low powerslam by Cody. Attempting the Cody Cutter, Rhodes was caught by Punk, who responded with a sequence of suplexes. Punk followed up with a knee strike and a bulldog, signaling for the GTS. However, Cody slipped away, countering with CrossRhodes, and delivering clubbing shots along with a Bionic Elbow.## Despite Punk being tossed, Cody resiliently pulled himself back into the ring. Punk gestured towards the WrestleMania sign but fell victim to CrossRhodes. The crowd fervently chanted for Cody as Punk was lifted up, only to be hit with a GTS. Cody attempted a Crucifix to pull Punk over, but it proved unsuccessful. Punk retaliated with a Pedigree, declaring that he didn't wait a decade to lose to Dusty's kid. As Punk set up for another GTS, Cody thwarted the attempt and ejected Punk from the ring.## This marks Cody's second consecutive victory in the Royal Rumble, following his triumph in the 2023 edition. In 2023, Rhodes won the Men's Royal Rumble, earning him a championship match at WrestleMania 39. While Stone Cold Steve Austin holds the record with three victories in 1997, 1998, and 2001, other two-time winners include Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Batista, Triple H, Randy Orton, Edge, Brock Lesnar, and Cody Rhodes. Notably, Cody Rhodes stands alone as the only superstar to achieve back-to-back victories in the Royal Rumble. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk...
