'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' Confirms Christmas 2024 Release Date
Los Angeles, August 9 - Paramount Pictures has had great success with its video game adaptation Sonic films, and now, the studio is gearing up for another film in the series. ## Paramount announced the third installment of Sonic in February this year, much before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The studio has now confirmed its release date as the iconic blue speedster will be hitting theaters on December 20, 2024. ## The first two Sonic films grossed over $720 million worldwide, which is massive for the film franchise as movies adapted from video games tend to bomb at the box office. 2020s Sonic the Hedgehog grossed over $319 million worldwide while its sequel which came out in April of this year went on to gross over 402 million. ## Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opened to a huge $72.1 million in a major boost for the domestic (North American) box office recovery. It scored the biggest opening weekend of all time for a video game adaptation, beating the first Sonic, and was also Paramount's biggest three-day opening since 2014.## Sonic 3, meanwhile, will have tough competition at the box office as James Cameron's mega movie, Avatar 3, will also be hitting theaters around the same time.
