Asia Cup 2022: Sri Lankan Pacer Dushmantha Chameera Ruled Out Due To Calf Injury

Colombo, August 22 - While the Asia Cup is set to begin later this week, Sri Lanka has been dealt a blow with the injury of one of their pacers. Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chamira has been rested due to injury. Now for the much-awaited Asia Cup tournament 2022, starting from August 27, Sri Lanka will have to find an alternative instead of the pacer.## Sri Lankan fielding coach Anton Roux has informed about Dushmanta Chameera's injury on Instagram. In view of this, Chameera is sure to be out of the Asia Cup. The Sri Lankan fielding coach praised Dushmanta Chameera for her kindness and professional approach. Along with this, he indicated that the pacer will return in the World Cup to be held in October. Apart from this, Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is also suffering from a knee injury due to which he has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup.## Sri Lankan fielding coach Anton Roux wrote in his Instagram post, "One of the kindest people I've met, and also extremely professional in his approach to his game. So gutted for him about his injury which rules him out of the Asia Cup, but im sure Dushy will bounce back stronger for the World Cup in Australia come October. Injuries are part of professional sport and sometimes the road to recovery can be a lonely process. Thats why it's important to support injured players as best as possible during this phase. See you soon Dushy".## Despite an ankle injury, Dushmantha Chameera was included in Sri Lanka's 18-man squad list for the Asia Cup that was released on Saturday. But it is certain that he will be given maximum time to recover from the injury and he will not play in the Asia Cup.## Dushmantha Chameera's injury will now put more pressure on the other pacers of the team. While Sri Lanka's available fast bowlers are Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana, and Pramod Madushan who have not played a single T20 International match so far.## Now all-rounders Chamika Karunaratne and Dasun Shanaka in the Sri Lankan Asia Cup squad will have the extra burden of winning the Asia Cup trophy. India To Tour Sri Lanka In July For Limited Overs Series, Says BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

Mumbai, May 10, 2021: The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has hinted that the Indian team will travel to Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series in the month of July. However, the exact window for this series is yet to be known, but Ganguly said it would consist of three ODIs and three T20Is. ## According to the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP), India are scheduled to play three T20Is in Sri Lanka in July. India were also due to play three T20Is and three ODIs in Sri Lanka last June, but that tour was canceled due to the pandemic.## If the Sri Lanka tour happens and the FTP were to be followed, India likely to play with a completely different squad excluding several regular players. During the time of the Sri Lanka tour, the first choice Team India will be in England to play the WTC Final against New Zealand and 5-matches Tests series against England starting on August 4. ## Meanwhile, Ganguly denied the possibility of the remainder of IPL 2021 being played in England on either side of India's Test series there, when asked in an interview with Sportstar. "No", Ganguly said. "India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organizational hazards like 14-day quarantine.## "It [the IPL] can't happen in India [either]. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL", he added. ## Not only the IPL but also the ICC T20 World Cup which is supposed to be held in India, starting sometime in mid-October, looking in deep trouble. With the second covid-19 wave is worsening in the country, amid which the IPL's biosecure bubble was breached - it remains a possibility that the T20 World Cup will be shifted.## Stay tuned...

All-Round Afghanistan Knock Sri Lanka Out Of Asia Cup

Sri Lanka suffered from another similar batting collapse in a must-win match against Afghanistan and knocked themselves out of the Asia Cup 2018 on Monday 17 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi after losing by 91-runs .## The five-time champion lost to Bangladesh in the opening match of this Asia Cup and therefore, this was the must-win match for them to keep their hope alive. But they failed to chase down the target of 250 and bundled out on just 158 in 41.2 over to handed Afghanistan a memorable win.## Afghanistan had won the toss and opted to bat first. Sri Lanka made three changes from their last match and included Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera, and Shehan Jayasuriya in place for Dilruwan Perera, Suranga Lakmal, and Amila Aponso.## Afghanistan started well as both Mohammed Shahzad (34 off 47) and Ihsanullah (45 off 65) added 57 for the first wicket. Both dismissed to Akila Dananjaya. But their leading run scorer of 2018, Rahmat Shah played a brilliant knock of 72 off 90 balls. His partnership worth 80-runs with Hashmatullah Shahidi (37 off 52) helped Afghanistan to reach 249 in 50 overs. It was a good effort by them knowing that they were 110 for 3 after 26 overs.## Sri Lanka did bowl well and restricted them on that total. Thisara Perera was the pick of the bowlers with 5 for 55 in 9 overs. Akila Dananjaya supported him well with 2 for 39 in 10 overs. Malinga, Chameera, and Jayasuriya all three took a wicket each.## Chasing 250, Sri Lanka were needed a good start but the 17-year old Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed Kusal Mendis on the just second ball of the inning without troubling the scorecard. However, Dhananjaya de Silva (23) and Upul Tharanga (36) tried to build a partnership but misunderstanding between the wicket ran de Silva out after adding 54 for the second wicket.## After losing de Silva, Sri Lanka could never build any big partnership further and kept losing a wicket at the regular interval. Kusal Perera (17), skipper Angelo Mathews (22), Jayasuriya (14), Thisara Perera (28) all got the start but could not save Sri Lanka from losing the match.## Afghanistan's bowling once again was brilliant. Mujeeb, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammed Nabi, and Rashid Khan all took two wickets each. Rashid Khan and Nabi were excellent in the middle overs and kept the pressure on Lankans. This was Afghanistan's first win over Sri Lanka in Asia Cup.## Rahmat Shah awarded Man Of The Match for his brilliant knock of 72 runs. After Sri Lanka lost, Bangladesh and Afghanistan became the first two teams to enter in super four.## For more updates and news, stay tuned to us.## Thanks for the reading.
